Big dogs are generally less hyperactive than smaller dogs and require less attention; big dogs require more food than small dogs; big dogs require more space to run around in; big dogs generally die younger (don't ask me why, I just know it's true!) Another consideration is that you will want to tailor your dog for your needs. If it is to be a companion, a fun pet for your kids and generally a family dog then you will choose a different dog than the one you would want as a guard dog. It will stop Java applets or ActiveX conrols from entering your computer system if you want it to. It also alows you to stop cookies and virus checks e-mails, website and your whole computer. ...recommend this breed for anyone looking for a happy companion dog - including a family pet once children are past the grab and pull stage. Papillons are also excellent warning guard dogs - the flip side of this is that you really have to work on telling them when you WANT them to bark, and when you want them to stop! It can be done, but the message needs to be clear from the start. Many people assume small dogs are yappy - in my experience it is a matter of whether their owners encourage them or not. For a pedigree puppy expect to pay £500 - £800+ - there are not many being bred in the UK, and breeders are very careful, especially since the breed has appeared on Emmerdale. ...with Wire Fox Terriers is that in old age they can go blind, and Sally at age 11 has now developed cataracts and is blind in one eye, but that doesn't stop her playing and wanting to have fun! In their younger years they'd rather play and walk than have cuddles, but with her old age Sally has become very loving and loves to snuggle up beside you in the evenings on the sofa. She is also a quiet dog, and most WFTerriers are. They are good little guard dogs, but don't go barking at every noise! I've loved having Sally as part of our family, and should you choose to invite a Wire Fox Terrier into your home, I'm sure they'd be a lovable family member too!... Read review
