...During a chat about children’s books with a work colleague, she told me about the joys of reading Dr Seuss’s children’s books... Of course, I had heard of the film ‘Grinch,’ starring Jim Carey, and the new ‘The Cat in the Hat,’ but buying any of Seuss’ books had not really interested me, as I did not know what they entailed. However her evaluation of his book ‘The Cat in the Hat’ had intrigued me. I have a four and half year old daughter, you see (and a baby boy approaching one, but that is another story) who likes her bedtime books. She also likes her rhymes and I thought this would be right up her street. I went to the bookshop that same lunchtime and was pretty much spoilt for choice until I decided of Dr Seuss’s Sleep Book. ...This is my 1 year old's favourite book. It is about the different sounds that "Mr Brown" can make. It is a highly interactive read and with a little effort will have you and your baby/toddler howling with delight and begging for more. The illustrations are clear and colourful and the repetitiveness of the text only serves to reinforce words for the older beginning reader. It is available as a hard board book which is essential when you have a toddler who gnaws at everything as I have!! I have since bought other Dr Seuss books but this one is by far the best. ...As a kid I grew up with Dr. Seuss and Roald Dahl, every night for years I would read them. Dr. Seuss was an amazing fantasist. His use of rhyme and making up his own words where others would not fit made his work stand out from the rest. Maybe he was a nutcase but I find his work inspirational, not confined by convention. The book begins with two children abandoned by their mother and trapped in the house due to rain. Then the Cat in the Hat arrives and teaches the kids how to have fun. The kids are at first reluctant as their mother has told them to be good and keep the house tidy. When the house starts to become messy Cat brings Thing 1 and Thing 2 along who end up creating more mess. All the while the Goldfish tries to warn the children of Cat's bad influence but they don't listen they just want to have fun, as all kids do. More... Read review

...As a child I adored Dr. Seuss. I had the entire collection read them almost every day. When my sister brought home the DVD of the Cat in the Hat, which had always been one of my favourite characters I was sceptical. I was worried that it would spoil my childhood memories of the wonderful Dr. Seuss. Nevertheless I sat down and watched the movie from start to finish. The rhyming at the beginning eases gently into the story while still remaining Dr. Seuss-esque. A nice normal family living on a wonderfully normal street. The mother working in real estate with a troublesome son, Conrad, and well behaved daughter, Sally. The apparently perfect boyfriend living next door. All seemed about right for a Dr. Seuss until the cat arrives on the scene. I felt the voice of the cat could have been selected better as Mike Myres is somehow overpowering... Read review

...This is a review of the 2003 UK edition of The Cat in the Hat published by Collins. (Harper Collins children's books, a division of Harper Collins publishers Ltd. www.harpercollins.co.uk). The book was printed and bound in Hong Kong. The Cat in the Hat was written by the late, American born author Theodor Seuss Geisel, (1904-1991), under his nom-de-plume; Dr Seuss. It was first published in New York, USA in 1957 and in the UK a year later in 1958. The Cat in the Hat is quite a short book with only 61 pages. 21 of these pages feature full sized illustrations. The print is quite large and there aren't many lines of text on a typical page. This helps younger readers and stops them losing interest. ...*Cover* The cover it's self tells of the story with bright colors and the playful illustrations done by Dr Seuss himself, even from afar it has a strong appeal to it's aim audience; children. *Plot* As with all of Dr Seuss' books, we find ourselves once again in the rhyming world that may be confusing to some adults, but combines perfectly with the less-than-life-like drawings and the whole theme of the story. For example: I can read in red. I can read in blue. I can read in pickle color too. I can read in bed, and in purple, and in brown. I can read in a circle and upside down. It is based entirely on reading, and when being read, the actions within the poems can be repeated by the reader, making the book more entertaining and interactive. *Other* I find that this book is rather useful for younger readers who struggle to read... ...Green eggs and Ham a book written by Dr Seuss (Theodor Giesel). I think Dr Seuss published this book in about 1960 so a lot of you out there will have read this book or other. I have seen it on sale for under £5 often as part of a set of Dr Seuss books or sold individually in many bookshops. I have had this book in many a classroom book corner. This book only contains a vocabulary of 50 words that are repeated. It is suitable for young readers; children love the silliness of the idea of eating green eggs. The sounds of the words the rhyming it is fun to read. Children will soon want to read it on their own and in fact memorise the story and the rhymes. The story is about “Sam I am” who pesters a grumpy grouch to eat a plate of green eggs and ham, He tries to persuade him to eat them in a car, on a train on a boat... Read review

The cat in the hat comes back.... When the cat in the hat steps back on the mat, with a team of minature mischief makers in his hat, sally and her brother are in for another uproarious ride. The cat and his mini cats A-Z turn the task of clearing snow into a hilarious laugh. Green eggs and ham ( my personal favorite)... When Sam-i-am pesters an old grumpy grouch to to eat a plate of green eggs and ham, we soon find out that you can never truly know what we realy like until we have tried it! Fox in socks...
