Write on with the Lite-On
Review of Lite-ON CD-RW 48r 40w 12rw Int IDE RP by
Jeronimo
Advantages: Fast burning, can copy nearly anything
Disadvantages: Er.. boring fascia??
...I was looking to upgrade my 16x burner to something with a little more punch. My friend's dad had bought a Lite-On 24x speed burner and it came highly recommended.
After a little more research, the 40x Lite-On seemed the way to go, and for a reasonable price.
Once it had arrived, I opened the bright red box and peered in. Contained within was the drive itself, 4 screws to install in it your system case, an audio cable, an 80-minute CD-R, an 80-minute CD-RW, a CD containing Nero Burning Rom and the instruction manual (useless till you install the drive of course!), and a slip of paper containing basic installation procedures.
No IDE cable is included with this drive, so unlike some manufacturers, Lite-On expect you to be replacing another CD drive, or have a spare connector already available.
Installing the drive is no hassle...

...suggest to anyone to get a dvd recorder but if you want to save money and just want to burn cds then this is for you.
Also I have never had a single problem with any LITE-ON drive. I had a friend delete his drivers once and that caused a little problem but LITE-ON support is really good and I was able to get new drivers pretty quick.

Liteon 48x24x48 cdr-cdrw cd drive LTR-48246S
Review of LiteOn LTN 525 by
crhawk100
Advantages: Easy installation,strait forward control
Disadvantages: Non
...I have owned this lite-on drive for about six months now
and its reliability is amazing. In that time I can honestly say I have only had five failures whilst using it.
I bought it from a local retailer, quite cheaply as it has been superceded by a new model.
I am a bit of a computer buff but by no means hand on panels off stick it in there sort of person. So I was going to ask a mate to do it for me.
Well to cut a long story short I got impatient looking at the box and decided to have a go at fitting it.
What a doddle,it took longer for me to work how to take the side panel off the pc than it did to fit the device
After removing the pc side panel and gauging just where this unit would fit also knocking out the false fromt facia.I slid the unit into position and secured it using the 4 screws provided.
It was at this point I consulted...

Lite-On - RIGHT-On
Review of Lite-ON CD-RW 40r 32w 12rw OEM + NERO by
roberthart
Advantages: Price. Fast CD writer
Disadvantages: Poor sustained data transfer
...I bought this drive for about £45 which was the retail version so it included Nero and a couple of blank CD's. This i have to say is a bargain as i purchased it nearly a year ago now. I have written approaching 200 CD's with this now and had very few failures (the few that i have had were mostly my fault). Also the laser is showing no signs of wearing out as yet which is quite prone to happening with CD Rewriter drives.
Installation of the drive is relatively easy if you have installed any other cd drive before, and the instructions are detailed enough to see beginners through.
At 32X for write speed it is fairly middle of the range now, there are a number of manufacturers including Lite-On that produce 48X write and i think even 52X write drives. However i will think that most people will find it fairly difficult to find writable cds...

createhi

This Computer is easy to assemble and its quite fast in a Windows XP environment having a lot of improvement from my old PC. Portable doesnt always mean mobile
Review of LiteOn SLW-831SX by
Rubeenio
Advantages: Light, slim
Disadvantages: Needs external power :(
...that comes out of the drive itself, it just uses a slot that you push the DVD or CD into and it then ejects out. Even though the SLW-831SX is slim it is also quite though and durable so if you're sitting at your table and you knock it off it won't break :)
The SLW-831SX uses a USB2 connection that all laptops come with these days so you don't have to worry about not being able to connect it to your computer (the USB2 cable comes with the drive so you don't have to go and buy it too) Now because it uses this USB2 connection is not as fast as say and IDE DVD RW that you would have in your PC but that not much of a problem because your paying for this drive to be external so it can be used anywhere (as long as there's a plug there lol)
The drive writes at speeds of 8x (DVD-/+), 2.4x (DVD+R Dual Layer), 4x (DVD-/+ RW) and 24x (CD-R and CD...

Excellent drive at the right price
Review of LiteOn LTC-48161 by
drTamseel
Advantages: Excellent, reliable, robust, good value for money
Disadvantages: None whatsoever
...When I bought a LiteON drive three years ago I had never heard the name before except on some Internet stores. I was in London for some exams after which I went to Tottenham Court Road to look at a few CD-ReWriters (commonly known as CD-writers) before buying one. I had compiled some material in different formats for my exam and thought to bring it all together on a CD to help out colleagues in the future.
Due to my exams I didn’t have much time to do any research or read reviews so I just went to the shops without any prior knowledge. The first drive I saw was a Yamaha CD-RW/DVD combo at around 80 GBP (Great Britain Pounds). Then there were a few HPs, Sonys etc in the same price bracket. Although I was shown LiteON drives in a few shops priced between 40 and 50 GBP I wasn’t much interested despite their assurances that this was a good...

Burn baby burn
Review of Memorex CD-R 700 MB 24x by
robin_best
Advantages: Work at 52x
Disadvantages: none
...maybe the first 20 disks of the 100 and I have had no problems with these disks at all, they have all worked fine and I have been burning them at 52x so they do live up to their billing of being 52x proof, they are also 700MB disks (can you still get the smaller size disks?).
The drive that I am using is a Lite-on 52x24x52x CD-RW and so if you also use a 52x drive then these disks will be for you as they do work at 52x, the software that I am using is Nero 5.5.10.9 (the version bundled with the drive). I would expect these to work fine with the other burning software that you can get and they should work with other drives as they are really all the same. If you have a slower drive then it should work fine with that as disks can be burnt at various speeds.
The price I paid for these disks was £17.99 inc VAT and delivery, they have a silver...

Benq
Review of BenQ DW1610 by
mik_danielle
Advantages: Comes with a lot of useful software
Disadvantages: none
...The Benq Dwq1600 ia a robust DVD rewriter, which comes complete with software and plenty of built in technology disigned to ensure correct playing of unlevel DVDS and CDS.
The software you get free is WinDVD Creator 2.8B, Win DVD4.0B, Record now! 7.1, Sonic DLA 4.9.
I did find there to be a few problems with this drive, For a start it is only compatible with DVD+RW and DVD+R standards, there is no headphone outlet or volume control.
** The Overall Design **
The DW1600 has a standard specification, with a fairly fast speed on both single layer and dual-layer discs.
Shiws good rewriteable media and is pipped to the post by the feature-filled LiteOn an fast MSI
** Speed **
+16X4X16
-N/A
9=(RXRWXread
** Access Time**
120ms
** Dual Layer **
Yes 2.4X
The controls and indicators are very simple this is due to not having a volume...

Hello Tosh, got a Toshiba
Review of Toshiba External USB 2.0 Combo Drive by
skrg28
Advantages: Small, looks very cool
Disadvantages: Noe really, does what it says it does
...and play DVD's, all for free and they are not the usual trial versions.
I did have a quick look at the user manuals, which appear to be user friendly and understandable but at the end of it, its only a CD drive, how hard can it be.
OPERATING
Inserting a CD is easy enough. There is a chromed button with operating light on the top front of the unit that you press to open the drive. Insert your CD as normal and off you go. The unit reads/writes at the following speeds.
read: 24x (CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW) 8x (DVD-ROM) 4x (DVD-R, DVD-RW) 1x (DVD-RAM)
write: 24x (CD-R/-RW)
ELSE
As with all Toshiba products you get excellent product support. There is a good support section at www.toshiba.co.uk
I quite like this unit. Looks good and functions well without being no the heavy side. Especially like the easy USB connection and short time it takes to set...
