I've Got Soft Balls!
Review of Srixon Soft Feel Golf Balls by
the_mad_cabbie
Advantages: Extra distance with the driver. Excellent control and spin. Well priced high performance golf ball for the average golfer.
Disadvantages: Meaningless advertising.
...~ ~ Srixon is probably not the first name that springs to a person's mind when they think of golf equipment manufacturers. Names like Slazenger, John Letters and Dunlop, and more recently Taylor Made, Callaway, and Nike are the manufacturers of clubs, balls and equipment that most modern-day golfers would readily associate with being market leaders in the golf world.
~ ~ So who are Srixon, and why are they now quickly establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the golf equipment market?
Well, they're a Japanese rubber company called Sumitomo Rubber Industries who have been manufacturing golf balls since way back in 1930, when they began producing Dunlop golf balls under licence in Japan. Thirty three years later, in 1963, they actually bought out Dunlop in the UK, and entered the golf ball market worldwide.
So why have we...

Footjoy Greenjoys
Review of Footjoy Golf Shoes by
silkyuk9
Advantages: soft and durable
Disadvantages: none
...There is nothing worse than aching feet playing golf, your feet are proberly the most important part of your body to look after. lets face it you are proberly going to walk over 4 miles in a round of golf so good footware is a vital commodity. I have a pair of Footjoy Greenjoys, I chose mine after a reccomendation from a friend, prior to Footjoy's i wore a pair of cheap Donnay, then Dunlop, then a pair of Nike, but after 18 holes my feet ached with each pair.
Footjoy Greenjoys offer a soft upper made from synthetic leather, usually i stay away from synthetic but these are perfect, and don't make my feet sweat like other shoes i have worn. the inner sole moulds to your soles and really are soft, infact i feel i have a spring in my step and my feet are perfectly cushioned. The sole is made from moulded rubber and is equally soft...

Have You Hard Or Soft Balls?
Review of Srixon Distance Golfballs by
the_mad_cabbie
Advantages: Cheap to purchase. Virtually indestructable. Travels a long way.
Disadvantages: Hard to control, with little or no spin control.
...in the USA and Europe) is a Japanese manufacturer called Srixon. (Sumitomo Rubber Industries)
They are not inexperienced in the making of golf balls however, as they have been one of the leading manufacturers in the Far East since as far back as the 1930’s, when they made Dunlop, Slazenger, and Maxfli golf balls under licence.
Nowadays they are part of the Adidas/Taylor Made Group of companies, and their own brand Srixon golf balls are to be found wherever golf is played.
~ ~ In common with most other golf ball manufacturers, they make a range of golf balls to suit different types of golfers
The Srixon Distance golf ball I am reviewing here is their “budget” ball, designed specifically for the longer handicap golfer, (about handicap 16 to 36) who isn’t so concerned about spinning the ball, or working it with draw or fade from either the right...

Maxfli Noodle.
Review of Maxfli Noodle Golf Balls by
silkyuk9
Advantages: reasonable prices, soft and durable
Disadvantages: not long life lasting
...I like Maxfli Noodle golf balls because they are a cheap and almost titleist alike. At around £12 a dozen they are a cheap alternative ball to Callaway and Titleist. I often use Maxfli in the winter or when the greens and fairways are soft or damp. I feel off the tee they are quite nice to hit, not like cheaper balls which make a louder noise when hit. Maxfli offer a soft ball which seems to fly higher off the tee, and does control a lot easier than Topflight for instance. The dimples dont seem as deep as most golf balls which proberly makes them better to putt with, I don't know the science so I'm not going to try to explain but off the putter i do find they roll very nice.
When i use a wedge i find a better spin than some other cheaper golf balls, and in the air i do see more distance that Topflight and Dunlop, but not as long...

Motorbike racing - North West 200 A great day out
Review of Everything that starts with M ... by
jenny967
Advantages: Great for Motorbike fans
Disadvantages: To long for the kiddies
...there are practice races held.
Who goes to the North West 200 ?
Over the years the North West has become the largest sporting event in Northern Ireland and attracts around 100,000 visitors from all over the world. A lot of these visitors will camp out over the week in campsites near the race circuit, (The offical campsite is Mathers Cross) all other types off accomodation around these three towns will be well booked up in advance.
When is the main event ?
This years main event was held on the Saturday 17 May, however the event nearly did`nt take place due to the sad Death of Robert Dunlop which occured 48 hours before the main race, He was seriously injured during Thursday nights practice races and died in hospital later that night, but the Dunlop family give their support for the event to carry on, so they decided to hold the event afterall...

A modern classic
Review of VW Golf I Cabriolet by
goodo
Advantages: Easy to work on, cheap to run, classic look
Disadvantages: High cost of replacement parts, no power steering, poor brakes
.... As the chassis is not very stiff, it also accentuates the scuttle shake. The wheels are skipping over the bumps and the body is shaking away, and the overall effect is not very composed. I put on some Dunlop SP01 tyres which were nice and supple and helped the ride, but it was still too harsh. If you have one of these, test others' lowered cars before buying to check what you're getting yourself in for.
Brakes. These really are out of the 80s. My first car was a vw polo country (the boxy estate one) and it didn't have servo assisted brakes. I used to have nightmares about pushing the brake pedal and nothing happening, in fact come to think of it I still do :) Well the golf was a bit like that, but perhaps not as bad. However there a serious amount of effort is required to stop the car.

So easy and so helpfull
Review of piedog.co.uk by
andrewj100
Advantages: Buy your strings and things from your PC.
Disadvantages: You wont get to try out instruments and equipment before you buy.
...I recentl purchased some bits and bobs from Piedog's online music store and was wery suprised at how easy and painless it was. Piedog have a fairly limited range in some areas but for the majority of things you'll find just what you want and have it delivered to your door in no time.
I was after some picks, a lead, some strings and some Jim Dunlop strap locks. All but the strap locks were delivered in a few days. The strap lock problem is not the fault of piedog, Jim Dunlop were at the time having problems with the supply but piedog were the only people who offered to keep them on order for me and send them as soon as they arrived. If your after the usuall consumables why go to the shop when you can have everything delivered to your door. The do a wide range of guitars and amplifiers and last time I looked they were significantly cheeper...

Big Mean and Fun
Review of Dunlop Jim Cry Baby by
widgetwhite
Advantages: Classic Sound, Built to last forever
Disadvantages: Expensive, Limited use
...Ok, this is probably the best category i could find for this, but its for an original Dunlop CryBaby wah pedal manfactured by JEN in the '70s (i think)
Overall, CryBaby Wahs havent changed much since the originals back in the 60s ie VOX,Dunlop, etc as its one of the simplest, but most effective pedals used sparingly. My poor old pedal has been knocking around in poor condition for what feels like a hundred years since i first started playing guitars 15 years ago! I purchased it from a friend for about 5 quid and a bag of jelly babies, and boy am i glad as new ones now cost around 100 GBP.
Im writing this after comparing in a shop between mine and a recent model, just to see if there really was much difference.Surprise? almost none, it felt. The Build quality is still rocksolid, diecast box , big sweepable pedal and a totally...
