...in a restaurant with a fabulour antique decor. Having stayed at more hotels than I care to remember in France this is certainly one of my favourites. If you stay there remember to book, and ask for room three. This room has two single beds, and en suite shower and toilet with views over the river Loire. The advantage of this room is the balcony which is the only one in the hotel and is certainly worth the extra 20 Ff over and above the other rooms which have the same views but no balcony. The town itself is very pretty, historical and full of small shops and many restaurants and bars. It does get crowded in the height of the season and parking is a problem even staying at this hotel. The area is full of places of interest and research is recommended before taking advantage of the places of interest. The local tourist office is very supportive... Read review

Advantages: Quick route to France from Italy or vica versa.
Disadvantages: Some people do not like going through tunnels , limited exits

...The tunnel under the white mountain,/Monte Bianca /Mont Blanc . When you get to these mountains you can see why they are called the white mountains fantastic peaks white with snow. The picture is of the Italian enterence to the tunnel. This year we drove all the way down through France to the Alps stayed a few days in a campsite in the Alps then journeyed on by road over the mountains to Italy. We did not go through the tunnel through Mont Blanc but went the long way round the mountain it took us all day. After camping in the Aosta valley just the other side of Mont Blanc in Italy it was time to come home and we made a short cut through the tunnel. Advantages: Extreme Athletic Ability
Disadvantages: Too many problems with doping etc.

...In recent years, the Tour De France has been synonymous with Lance Armstrong who won the event seven years in a row. However, with Armstrong's retirement and several other big names pulling out at the last minute due to a doping scandal, this year's race promises to be one of the most exciting for some time. Firstly, a little bit of history of the event. Held every year (with the exception of during the two world wars) since 1903, the race is the premier road-cycling event in the world. It features around 20 stages taking the riders around France and some surrounding countries. Other countries visited have included: Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and the UK. ...france have been a delight to watch in the euro 2000, they have skill in Zidane, pace in Henry, and experience in Blanc and other, all excellent pedigree for a winning combination. They have played some vintage football in euro 2000, which is similar to Brazil. They kept thier heads up, when a lesser team would have folded, and surged back with a vengeance. a delight to watch, some critics say they are to much of a team based around individuals, but they have many great players, petit, vieira, dugarry and pires just to mention a few. France played well and will win many more things but the rest of europe are not far away, portugal, holland and italy are knocking on their door. well done france and thank you for some delightful football... ...I have used Air France on several occasions, and now often specify Air France as a first choice. On long haul flights they are very good, I am six foot four inches, and need as much space as possible, the Air France jumbo's are just the ticket. They also alow you to pre-book your seat, so you can get the seat that suits you, if you book early enough. Other things that made the experiance so good, were the excellent food/drink, friendly helpful staff, all in all, the best I have travelled with up to date.... Read review

..., but I prefer the Awards : that’s really a show, our Victories are so boring... and our awards only go to the old singers. For instance, our singer of the year is Henri Salvador, 83 years old !!! What a poor representation for France ! But he is a really funny grandaddy !!! He said in this celebration, I try to translate loyally : “Not long after, this Award would be posthumous...” !!! But seriously, De Palmas would merit this award. The lyrics are (... in french ...) deservy of the music. Search and get this album, it’s going to get a shock !!!... Read review

Advantages: Relatively unknown to English tourists

...Relais Normand), past the beautiful Saint-Saens golf club which is reputed to be one of the most scenic courses in the whole of France and eventually flows into the sea near Dieppe on the Cote d'Albatre. The beautiful Foret d'Eawy (the second largest beech forest in France after that of Lyons-la-Foret) rises up from the valley and many varied routes are clearly signposted to enable both the walker and cyclist to take advantage of the scenery and possibly spot a deer or wild boar roaming freely. The coast itself was a favourite of many artists and Monet painted a series of his favourite coastal views reflecting the ever-changing light on the cliffs at Pourville sur Mer and Varengeville. The artist Georges Braque designed the stained glass window which decorates the church at Varengeville, perched high on the cliffs with a magnificent view... Read review

Advantages: cheap, quiet, clean and well-located, friendly and helpful staff
Disadvantages: hardly luxurious! Noise from trams if at the front

...is quiet, and clean, and this hotel was one of the first in the Accor chain to go fully non-smoking. The room is also basic - it is en suite with a shower over the bath, it has a TV with 15 or so channels, the only one in English of which is BBC World. The big advantage is that the tram (line B) stops right outside the door, while walking to Petit France or the Cathedral take about 10 minutes. There are multi-storey car parks nearby, and some on-street parking, although watch out for the restrictions due to the street market on Wednesdays. The staff are friendly. Their English is more than adequate, although I generally speak to them in French. Currently, they are having work done on the ground floor, which will improve the breakfast room and reception. Breakfast costs extra, but I tend to grab something en route to the office... Read review

Advantages: Devastating attack - smooth passing
Disadvantages: Occasional defensive errors

...Without trying to be simply favouritist, France and Holland pose the definite threats to any other team in Euro 2000. But France stand the best chance of carrying the Euro crown home to accompany their world cup. Both teams have shone out in the crowd from the rest of the group, with perceived also-rans Spain, Portugal and Italy making their way through. But with all of these other teams, it is much easier to spot chinks in their armour. Spain have for the first time in 35 odd years made it through to the quarters in International competition - but their performances in this tournament have been largely disappointing bar their spirited victory over Yugoslavia. Italy seem to have qualified without incident, but are looking nervy - and have yet to confront a team that can pose a significant challenge. Portugal are very impressive... Read review
