Disadvantages: For a few hours

...I have always chosen Ernie Ball strings for the simple reason that they seem to be the most popular, they are usually cheap and they have those lovely day-glo packets (yes I'm that shallow). I have always thought that these were the best strings available through what people have told me and their hefty marketing, so I never before questioned their superiority, accepting them as the best you could buy. I was wrong however. In my narrow-mindedness of never choosing to use another type of guitar strings, I overlooked the problems that these strings have. When you first open the packet, and look inside, you see the brilliant, sparkling strings just begging you to put them on your guitar. Once you put them on, you play them in a little and realise that your guitar sounds great. These strings sound very brilliant and have a good tone... Read review

Advantages: lightweight, bend easily sound good
Disadvantages: not as loud as heavy strings

...as far or as easily. The extra strength needed to bend a .012 inch top string means that you will be pulling harder on it and there is more chance of de-tuning it. Ernie Ball Super slinky strings sound good for lightweight strings, having a fuller and richer tone than many of the cheaper lightweight strings I have used. They also don't break as often, indeed, I have only ever had 1 top E string break, but that was during a live show and meant that I had to re-string in the middle of a show. One of the reasons I like these strings is that they are very to get good finger vibrato from. I dislike tremolo units, like dear old Hank Marvin uses, preferring to get my sound by movement of the left hand on the fretted string. Advantages: PLAY'S WELL, LIGHT WEIGHT, GREAT SOUND
Disadvantages: A LIITLE PRICEY

...I recently went shopping for parts for the Gibson Les Paul I am building at home ,so I took some time to try some new Guitar models in Montreal,Canada.They had several Ernie Ball,s to choose from ,and I must say it handles really sweet, it weights a little more than seven pounds,consists of Schaller M6-IND locking tuners,vintage style tremolo bridge,EMG 85 humbucker in bridge position,EMG SLV custom single coils,double cutaway alder body,unbound rosewood fingerboard,and what i really like on a good quality ax is a 1 5/8" wide bone nut ,shielded control cavities,including a 5 bolt no-shift neck attachment this guitar really fits the body and is comfartable ,not like some other guitars that hurt your shoulder at the end of the night,they are a little pricey but they do deliver a beatiful sound from Jazz to Rock... ...INTRODUCTION: First off these are guitar strings for electric guitars, acoustic guitars ( that are amplified to become electoacoustics with similar circuitry as electric guitars) But not classical guitars, with Nylon strings :-) As with all products these days, a review on just plain old " Ernie Ball Strings " is very wide and open ! Nickel ( not the brighter / treble accenting steel ones !!! ) wound electric guitar strings "SUPER SLINKY" ( "9's " / "9-42" ) 9, 11, 16, 24, 32, 42. "REGULAR SLINKY" ( "10's " / "10-46" ) 10, 13, 17, 26, 36, 46. "SLINKY TOP HEAVY BOTTOM" ( "10-52" ) 10, 13, 17, 30, 42, 52. The Ernie Ball Slinky range of guitar stings offer many different gauges, from the standard 9-42 or 10 -46 setups to some extremely bottom heavy 9-54's. If you open up a pack of Ernie Balls there is a list of many famous guitarists who use Ernie Balls. The list is absolutely enormous and features a wide variety of bands who play many different styles of music. I have been using Ernie Balls for a few years now and have found them to be longer lasting than any other brand I have tried - some people recommend changing strings every 4 weeks, or even less, but I find with Ernie balls I can two or three times as long as this and still get good tone... ...Ernie Ball strings were the first strings i ever bought. Why? Because those were the only make of strings i knew when i was a kid, coz a friend used them, and he used them coz he knew someone else that used em, and so on. Ernie Ball make good strings dont get me wrong, but there not the best. There are so many different sets out there, and even within brands like ernie ball you may find you like one set, but dislike another. (eg: i would buy a set of Skinny top/Heavy bottom over a set of super slinky). Overall these strings are good, but if you purchase them try experimenting with different sets to suite the way you play. If like me you find Ernie Ball strings a bit twangy then maybe you can try another brand such as D'Addario. in a nutshell: they are as good as any other brand, but it's mainly down to your playing style...
