How Are Your Driving Skills?
Review of Driving The Essential Skills - Driving Standards Agency by
killiefan
Advantages: Plenty of good driving tips
Disadvantages: None that I know of
...Another book that I have been given to study up on as part of my training to become an Advanced Driving Intstructor is 'Driving the essential skills'. This book is the official Driving Standards Agency guide to driving and is packed full of 362 pages worth of tips to improve driving for new drivers and experienced motorists alike.
The fact that this book is written by the Drivers Standards Agency suggests that this book is going to be very useful as this is the agency responsible for setting and carrying out the driving tests in this country.
My copy of 'Driving the essential skils' came as part of my course fees but if I had been looking to buy the book it would have cost me £12.99. The book can be ordered online or can be bought from all good booksellers.

Ryan Giggs Secrets and Skills DVD Review
Review of Ryan Giggs - Secrets And Skills DVD by
heiky0711
Advantages: good for basic football skills and drills
Disadvantages: no slow motion effects
...Giggs's goals during his time as a youth player and professional football player. Some of the best goals including his wonder 'solo' goal against Tottenham are worth watching over and over again. Goals include during his youth days and Premiership.
Advantages
The DVD guided basic soccer skills and certain features like Additional Footage provides good replay value. As I watched this DVD over and over again, although the DVD simply explain basic soccer techniques and skills, it reflects in my opinion Ryan Giggs's characteristics on the football pitch. In short, honing these skills are essential to become a great 'Welsh Wizard' winger.
Downside
Ryan Giggs is a relatively quiet person so we don't get to know his true personality. Most of the skills are explained in detail by Bobby Charlton instead of Ryan himself...

You should climb rocks more. . .
Review of Rock Climbing: Essential Skills & Techniques - Libby Peter by
fantasticpete
Advantages: Clear diagrams. Chapter 6 and Parts III and IV. Quick reference.
Disadvantages: Too brief on important subjects and too longwinded on unnecessary ones.
...Mountaineering in the UK is certainly an activity, or as I think of it - a lifestyle, that you learn, not by reading books, but by getting out into the mountains, onto the rock faces and climbing. That said, there are 'skills and techniques' that must become second nature, and a clear, well structured reference book is always going to be a useful decoration to a climbers bookshelf.
Libby Peter organises her book very much with the MI and SPA qualifications in mind, with yellowy sections giving techniques for instructors. . .In truth, they are useful skills for all climbers to know but not ones that will necessarily be used that often. She is a teacher, and for some reason the book lacks much humor or fun.
The book is not comprehensive in its 225 pages, and the information Peter has decided to impart is mostly the most useful...

Essential Manager's Manual. It's essential
Review of Essential Manager's Manual - Tim Hindle, Robert Heller by
Martinscholes
Advantages: Very comprehensive
Disadvantages: Might be better in binder format ,not hardback
...The Essential Managers Manual really is essential. It is written by Robert Heller and Tim Hindle (edited by David Tombesi-Walton) and published by DK.
The vital information in the book is broken down into logical sections and the information is presented coherently and understandably.
The introduction sets the tone for the whole book. "In today's fast-moving business word," it warns, "organisations are constantly evolving, and the role of the manager is becoming ever more diverse."
That's very true. And some managers sink under the rapidly rising waters of change. This book can be described either as a lifeboat or at the very least a floatation device for those struggling to keep their head above the murky waters and uncharted depths of "corporate change."
The book is over 860 pages long and is designed as a comprehensive...

The Driving Bible!
Review of The Official DSA Guide to Driving - The Essential Skills by
pragmatik
Advantages: excellent value for money, plain English, packed with useful advice/info
Disadvantages: can't completely prepare you for real road situations, obviously
...My first driving instructor recommended I buy this book, as did numerous other drivers, both learner and experienced motorists. When I first had a browse through it, I thought "But this is all common sense simple - why would I need this book?" I decided, after further recommendations, to go ahead and purchase the book as I had some WHSmith vouchers anyway, so I effectively got it for free, rather than the £12.99 is it sold at usually. I looked for the book in my local bookshop but couldn't find it there, though, so you might only be able to find it in larger stores.
Since the day I got it, I have read parts of it every day. It actually lives beside my bed at the moment (probably because I am a tad obsessed with all this driving stuff at the moment)! Since I am essentially a total novice and am in the early stages of learning to drive...

Key Skills - A purpose for it's existence
Review of Key Skills by
C_W_Monkey
Advantages: It's easy
Disadvantages: It takes a little time
...Here is my daily rant against something during my stressful period. Enjoy
Key skills gets a lot of jip from A level students. Many believe it is pointless and there is no use in having it. But I aim to give a few reasons why you should have them! For people who excel in their A level subjects with straight A’s, I will admit, they are of less value. There are also subject combinations which will far exceed the skills in key skills.
But to these people I question: Why not do it anyway? It’s just another hour exam (per skill) and it proves that you can. If you are really that intelligent, how come you can’t pass a key skills exam?
Can i point out that this is NOT the same as general studies. General studies show | | |
