Double Oven 60cm Gas Cooker
Review of Belling G744 Gas Cooker by
Titch47
Advantages: Easy to clean and very smart looking.
Disadvantages: Oven racks quite difficult to pull out. No oven light.
...I purchased this cooker in white. I paid £269.95 but most suppliers seem to be selling it for £500+ so I think perhaps mine was priced wrongly as it certainly seems more like a £500 cooker than a cheaper model. It is a very smart looking cooker and easy to keep clean. It has double glass panels to both ovens which are extremely easy to wipe clean as is the smoked glass lid. The burners are very neat looking and the pan supports keep even the smallest of pans stable. Being 60cm the oven is a generous size and the hotplate easily accommodates four full size pans at once.
I find the grill very fast and when only cooking on one shelf the top oven is more than adequate.
The self cleaning oven really does self clean. The shelves in the main oven are a bit difficult to remove but I think this may just be due to it being new. The oven does...

Pleasure to cook on!
Review of Smeg A42A 70cm Range Cookers by
babble
Advantages: Looks fantastic, easier to keep clean than the stainless steel version, excellent quality product!
Disadvantages: Top scratches easily, not standard size so can't just put into an existing kitchen
...We bought this cooker 2 years ago. It's quite expensive for the size of cooker - approx £1000 for the cooker, £500 for the matching splash back and hood. But we think it's well worth it.
We needed to alter the kitchen as most cookers are 60cm wide- this one is 70cm.
The cooker is also available fully in stainless steel, but we've found that the stainless steel top on ours looks dirty very quickly (finger marks etc), so the other version woulg probably be a pain to keep clean. The best way to keep the stainless steel looking new is to clean with kitchen spray and a cloth, then rub in some baby oil to get rid of the water marks left.
Be careful of scratching the stainless steel - it scratches really easily and they do show up!
The whole cooker is really sturdy and the grates on top are fantasticly solid. you could probably hit...

A great little cooker!
Review of Beko DVC665S by
SusanLesley
Advantages: Good price, excellent facilities
Disadvantages: I haven't found any yet!
...We have recently bought a new house - well it is new to us anyway! It is actually the slate mine managers cottage on The Great Orme in Llandudno and it was built in 1896. The cottage itself is in excellent condition as the previous owner had really looked after it well, but he did take his cooker with him when he left.
Naturally then our first task was to find a 60cm cooker to fit in the gap in the kitchen. Luckily this is a standard size for a slot in cooker, although I did take my tape measure with me when we went shopping just in case. It also had to be electric as the gas in the cottage does not extend to the kitchen and as I had cooked on an electric cooker in our previous house this was fine.
Initially we tried various big stores in town, Curry's, Comet etc., but I wasn't particularly happy with their prices or the attitude...

Smegging up the UK91
Review of Smeg SUK91MFX 90cm Range Cookers by
JamesinOxford
Advantages: Brilliant ergonomics, evenness of the cooking
Disadvantages: Bottom Drawer snaps, Timer reverts to clock even when on timer
...I bought the UK91 pretty much as a mistake, as I originally wanted a 80cm width range cooker to fit within the confines of a moderately sized kitchen, I originally requested the UK80 (80cm x 60cm), but Smeg had just discontinued the model, and in my infuriation, the distributor had sent the UK81 instead. The UK81 is only 55cm deep, which would have meant that there would have been a big difference in the worktop being 60cm deep and the cooker only 50cm. I’ve no idea where they will sell that one. But I’m not the one selling it. After realising the options available, I decided to opt for the UK91 (90 x 60cm) instead.
I bought it off the Internet after browsing the shops for what I want. It took a month of the UK81 in my front room for the distributor to correct their error. But the end justifies the means. It was just fortunate...

New world
Review of New World Gas Cooker by
dannyflay
Advantages: Easy to use for people with rheumatism, and Arthritis.
Disadvantages: Diffacult to cook with a round pan eg: a Wok.
...I have just brought my wife a new Gas cooker she has difficulty with her hands when cooking.
I chose a New World white Cotsworld Delux cooker.
I paid £245.00 from Currys.
This cooker has an eye level grill with two handles, a lot of the grills I looked at only had a single handle on the grill which makes it heavier, but with the two handles you can balance the weight, this is also helpful for the elderly has well.
There are four burners of three sizes one simmer, one fast, and two normal burners on the back.
This is an easy cooker to clean most dirt just wipes off with a wet cloth.
The oven door opens out from the right there is a long bar just below the top of the door in a gold finish, this bar makes it easy to open unlike some cookers which have the round handle type.
This cooker lights first time unlike some which you have to try...

Painless extractions
Review of Siemens LE 64130GB Cooker Hoods - Other by
SueMagee
Advantages: Effective air extraction or recirculation at a reasonable price and with good illumination.
Disadvantages: Noisy on highest setting and fitted door can obscure view of hob if you're tall.
...is currently available from www.direct-electricals.co.uk for £125 including VAT and delivery.
The hood arrived well-protected and all packaging could be recycled. It isn't a pretty thing at all, having a rather dull, metallic, lacquered finish. This doesn't matter though as it's designed to fit between two wall cupboards (600mm apart) and behind a door (55cm high by 60cm wide) which matches the kitchen units. This door is attached to the hood and by pulling it forward (it's hinged at the top) you switch on the extractor fan. If you peer under the door you'll see the controls on the base of the hood. Depending on your height you might find this to be a disadvantage as the controls are not visible unless you bend down. Unfortunately the door, when pulled fully forward, can obscure your vision of the hob if you are tall. The fan does work...

Seeing Eye to Toast
Review of Tricity Bendix LYRIC55M2 by
crispybits
Advantages: Eye-level grill, three different burner sizes.
Disadvantages: Oven door has dangerous self-closing mechanism.
.... If you use the oven a lot they will become greasy and dirty. The best use for this compartment is as a temporary storage facility for dirty pans when you don't have time to wash them immediately - e.g. Christmas/Celebratory meals.
-- CONCLUSION --
The TRICITY BENDIX LYRIC55M2 is an excellent freestanding cooker with eye-level grill for tall and tall-ish people who do not have the space in their kitchen for a wall-mounted combination oven.
Its slimline 60cm width is another plus for small-kitchen owners. However, if you have a fitted kitchen and expect it to fit into the recess left by your last cooker - double-check the width and depth of the recess as you could find yourself with a 2 inch gap on either side between the cooker and the work surfaces.
The grill and oven cook evenly and thoroughly if you're home-cooking by guesswork...

Cooking Crumpet for a Tasty Dish!
Review of Electrolux Gas Cooker by
mrpaella
Advantages: Cheap, safe from kids, good value
Disadvantages: Oven does explode
...ORIGINALLY WRITTEN September 2000
I purchased an Electrolux 50 cm s/steel gas cooker from Currys a few months ago.
Although cheap in price I have been quite impressed. It has 4 gas burners, combined oven & gas, electrical hob ignition + storage drawer. The dimensions are height 90 cm, width 50 cm, depth 60 cm.
I paid £179.95 for it. There was an additional charge of £60 to disconnect + remove my old cooker. I took out 5 years insurance with Mastercare costing £65. Cheaper insurance is available. Note that if the cooker breaks down in the first year you get a free refund. Also only a small percentage of appliances break down in the first 5 years of use.
You need a gas lighter to light the oven. The gas lighters are quite cheap at around £3 an unit. All you need to clean the cooker top is washing up liquid and some warm water. Note...

Well Built
Review of Electrolux EKT6045X by
jenniferfh
Advantages: Fully Featured
Disadvantages: Not Cheap
...Bought new in March 2007, I have had to get used to using electricity for cooking as I was using gas for many years.
The cooker is built very well and has a sturdiness about it that seems lacking in other cookers. On delivery, I noticed a large defect inside the top oven. The stayclean lining was gouged away and I had the cooker changed by Electrolux in only 3 days.
First impressions was that the cooker was much slower to heat up than I had been used to, but that is typical for electric cookers.
Five months later, I amused to the heating and cooking at a more gentle pace and the results are better than with gas. The obvious statement is that it is much cleaner. Especially with a ceramic hob, this is a main advantage.
The controls are much easier to use than expected and although as said in another review it is possible to turn...

What to look for in a gas cooker
Review of Member Advice on Gas Cookers by
Ray45
Advantages: Cheaper than electricity, faster, good range of cookers
Disadvantages: None
.... They often have very poor parts availability.
Check it has a Gas Council number (for UK customers). This is a safety standard. Very often foreign imports don't have Gas Council registration and are not as reliable. They can still be sold in the UK, though.
The choice between an eye-level grill and a waist-level is entirely a matter of personal taste. Remember the cooker will hopefully last you a long time, though, and as you get older it is more difficult to bend. Eye-level grills leave space below the oven for a storage drawer, which is usually spacious and will hold a lot of pans. Waist-levels are preferred by people with fitted kitchens, who want all the work-surfaces to be the same height. We have a waist-level cooker, because my wife prefers them, but I wouldn't have one out of choice. I have found them to be problematical - the hinging...
