The sharpest knife in the draw
Review of Breville EK2 Carving Knife by  Miskah

Advantages: cuts very thinly and evenly
Disadvantages: carving style takes a while to get used to

...for washing or to exchange for the alternative. It isn’t cordless; this knife has a decent metre long cable which I find is enough but I never carve meat at the table. If you like to do this you need to opt foe a cordless one. The design of the knife is good and I find it easy and comfortable to grip. The trigger is in a comfortable, easy to reach place and is operated by the fingertips. The blades run as long as the trigger is held in. The vibration from the knife in use is a bit weird. When carving a lot, such as a hefty Christmas turkey I find I have to stop periodically and take a break or else I get pins and needles. This could just be me though; I broke both wrists in motorbike accident many years ago and this caused the collapse of the carpel tunnel in my right and I get pins and needles when writing a lot too. The motor is 120... Read review

A knife With A Point
Review of Victorinox Swiss Army Knife by  Massey42

Advantages: Sharp blades, expected host of features, Victorinox quality
Disadvantages: Reliability of electronics not proven

...good for both intricate work (should you need to) and the large blade has sufficient length to be useful in most situations 3. (corkscrew) The corkscrew is as expected, although made of good metal and is relatively firmly attached to the knife I never feel they are strong enough to remove corks from wine bottles (especially plastic ones) but it still works OK if that's all you have when camping. 4. (can opener with 3mm screwdriver) This works reasonably well as long as you have mastered the technique of opening cans this way. The tool hooks well over the edge of the can and grips well enough to allow it to puncture the can. The screwdriver on the end works as long as the screw is in an exposed position. 5. (cap lifter with - screwdriver 6 mm - wire stripper) The cap lifter is good for general hooking and prizing things open... Read review

Cuts like a (really bloody sharp) knife.
Review of Stanley Dynagrip Instant Change Knife by  tallulahbang

Advantages: Works well if used with caution.
Disadvantages: Will perform impromptu amputations if used by spackers.

...of the stuff, worryingly, I already had in the boot of the car). I paid about €15 (£10, roughly) for this knife which is way over the odds when you consider than you can get one of those cheap retractable ones for a few quid in B&Q, but I was beguiled by how shiny it was, that it had loads of safety features (obviously, you can see I was setting myself up for a bit of a fall from the get go) and that Tom used the hard sell on me: 'Aye, Fiona, it says that it's 'ergonomic' on the box. Now, I don't know just quite what that means, but lookit, it's written in big fancy letters. It's bound to be a good thing, so.' As knives go, it's quite pretty. It's curved to fit in your hand, it has rubberised grips so it can't slip out of your grip, it's made of metal so it should last a few years but yet it's not too heavy. The underside is ridged... Review of the Victorinox Century Swiss Army Knife
Review of Victorinox - Swiss Army Knife by  freelancer1

Advantages: Sharp serrated blade, attractive design.
Disadvantages: None that spring to mind.

...I am a little bit sad. You see, I'm a pen knife anorak... I have four of the things, and use them for camping trips, jobs around the house and those bizarre tasks that pop up from time to time (ever got a lump of chewing gum stuck to your shoe before a meeting?!?) In short - I KNOW about penknives. Features of the Victorinox Swiss Army Century Swiss Army Knife Serrated/Straight blade - this is pulled out from the cover by gripping a little groove on the back of the blade. It is made of stainless steel, so it won't rust, and it "locks" when it is in line with the handle. The blade is 4" long and has about 60% serrated edge and 40% straight edge. It is an incredibly sharp blade that cuts just about anything - string... Read review

Swiss Army Huntsman Knife - Not Just For Hunting!
Review of Swiss Army Huntsman Knife by  Haxrskilz

Advantages: Plenty of tools, small size.
Disadvantages: Pricing could be considered steep, tweezers and toothpicks easily lost.

...*Product* Small, smart, safe - three words out of many that could be used to describe how useful the Swiss Army Huntsman Knife is. With a size being slightly smaller than an average male middle-finger, and yet still thinner than a thumbs width, it is no wonder that it is more commonly known as a the more popular 'Pocketknife' - a place where it is perfectly safe to hold, might I add. As with most items, the size has no impact on the innards of the instrument, although it is definitely helpful that it can slide neatly in and out of the palm of your hand, but, have no qualms about it; the durable plastic outer-shell (usually in a firetruck red, but comes in a range of colours) a slight grip of the hand will keep it in place. As with all Swiss Army Knives, this comes with strong stainless steel and some dangerously sharp edges (Warning... Read review

Global Knives
Review of Global Knife Set by  sjp1966

Advantages: look nice, feel nice, hygenic
Disadvantages: expensive, scratch easily, oh, did I mention expensive?

...and blade are fashioned out of the same piece of steel. This is good in that it is easy to clean and dry, and there are no areas in which food can get trapped. The set I have, which incidentally were all bought separately rather than in a wallet or knife block are: GSF-15 Global Peeling Knife: I use this knife to chop small vegetables such as garlic and mushrooms. It is a light knife, easy to use and handle and when sharp cuts through effortlessly. G-3 Global Carving Knife: This knife I use to slice joints of meat such as Beef or Lamb, again a fairly light knife that is easy to hold and use GF-24 Global Carving Fork: I use this to hold the joints on meat in place for the carving knife. The prongs are very sharp and the handle is well gripped to keep things steady G-5 Global Vegetable Chopper: This look like a meat chopper to me... Read review

I wish my wit was as sharp
Review of Victorinox Kitchen Knife Set by  COOOEEE

Advantages: The best set of knives I have owned
Disadvantages: No protective sleeves for the blades

...Why does Delia Smith use such good knives as Victorinox on her television series 'How to cook' and then sell completely different makes on her web site? Not only are the prices on her web site extortionate for knives at £110.00 for a set of three, Victorinox are readily available in the UK. Victorinox are the famous makers of the Swiss army knife and one of the best makes I know of. Maybe I should explain that I used to be a cook for many years, until ill health forced me to give it up. I used to buy my knives singularly as the better quality knives used to be so expensive. All my old knives have rosewood handles and are still as new. There seems to be a Victorinox knife for every single occasion that you can think of. From Peeling, Paring, and Pastry to Boning, Filleting and Carving. The list is just endless. Two Christmas’s ago... Read review

* "Stanley I presume" . .
Review of Stanley Trim Knife by  smudgeybabes

Advantages: Very goon indeed.
Disadvantages: Can be dangerous

...OK, the knife is made by the famous Stanley company, and a lot of people here will think it just a "Stanley knife". Well let me just say that this is the Daddy of Stanley knives, it is a far better example of a wonderful tool. These are larger than conventional ones, and I thought these were only available to carpet fitters, as they are far too good for us mere Mortals. Having owned a second hand example, I can recommend it for accuracy and ease of handling. The bigger handle gives more control, and they still use the replaceable small blades. A Stanley knife, according to good old Wikipedia, is a utility knife (also called a box cutter, a Stanley knife, a razor blade knife, a carpet knife, or a stationery knife) is a common tool used in various trades and crafts for a variety of purposes. Israel and Switzerland call them Japanese... Read review

Cuts like a knife
Review of Cuts Like A Knife - Bryan Adams by  BigGip

Advantages: Good likeable sound
Disadvantages: None

...'Cuts like a knife' is a CD that contains 10 very good rock tracks. The CD is similar in style to 'You want it - You got it', however the rawness has been taken away and been replaced with a much more commercial sound. The tracks once again are well written with the musical instruments played exceptionally well. My favourite tracks are 'Straight from the heart', 'Cuts like a knife' and 'The best was yet to come'. This CD is definately one for the collection if only just to see how and by how far Bryan Adams has progressed as an artist.... Read review

1 of my 5 a day is solved!
Review of OXO Good Grips Mango Splitter by  jcduk

Advantages: It REALLY works!!!
Disadvantages: It's a little expensive - but it works!!!

...!". OXO Good Grips (no relation to the chicken cube guys) has been producing kitchen gadgets/utensils for about 15 years. Their philosophy is to "make products that are easy to use for the widest possible spectrum of users". I remember the first time I heard of them, was from someone with arthritis and they were told these kitchen tools were comfortable and easy to use. As I seemed to be on a death wish course with my use of sharp kitchen implements, I thought I'd try some - and my love of Good Grips products began. The latest edition to the family is a Mango Splitter. Think of it like an apple slice. Except in this case the core is oval and would cut out the seed in the center, leaving you with two perfect halves of fruit. The instructions were simple. Take one Mango. Place it on the counter/board, stem side down. Place... Read review
