A guitar that's also a work of art!
Review of Gibson 1960 Les Paul Special Electric Guitar by
drifter_2000
Advantages: Wonderful ringing tone. Incredible sustain.
Disadvantages: Very heavy and expensive
...Firstly, I should get one thing straight. The LP is made of solid mahogany so it's very heavy. Despite having a very thick and comfortable shoulder strap, I still find it difficult to play for long periods of time. However, that's probably the only drawback of a truly legendary guitar that is played by (among others) Jimmy Page, Gary Moore and Slash.
The standard design of the Les Paul is arch-top with single cutaway, two humbucking pick-ups and two volume, two tone controls. A three way tone control gives a good range of sounds-one good for picked intros, one for warm sounding chords and one for distorted powerchords. The mahogany construction gives the guitar a 20 second sustain, which coupled with the high output on the pickups makes it ideal for long and distorted sounds.
Despite the weight factor, the guitar is a very...

want to be a guitar hero? but hopeless at guitar
Review of Guitar Hero 2 (PS2) by
inbetweendaysx
Advantages: Learn basics of guitar like hammer-ons etc. Great tracks
Disadvantages: Difficult in some parts, but then there are different levels.
...INFORMATION
Guitar Hero II, sequel to Guitar Hero which was released back in 2005: is definitely a game that keeps you addicted. This is probably one of the best interactive play station games made, and let me tell you this - the anticipation for Guitar Hero III is killing me, I am dying to know what alterations they've made and how much better it is, and I'm sure that the rest of Guitar Hero fans anticipate its released. Red Octane (producer and creator) couldn't have come up with a better idea than this game, it certainly has been talked about all around the world, it's addictive, and lets face it, it's clever. So you can say goodbye to all your air guitars, and if you are a guitar player and you are rubbish - then pick up Guitar Hero and it certainly makes you feel like you are a Guitar God. It's great because its a game that lasts...

Ready To Rock?...Guitar Hero 3! Legends of Rock
Review of Guitar Hero 3 (Xbox 360) by
Rampant_Ross
Advantages: Hours of fun, insane tracks
Disadvantages: Not enough tracks to download...not much story
...of having a predetermined difficulty, the players both select a level, one can do easy whilst the other does expert. Obviously you want to do the level that gains you the highest score, but this can be hard as you'll find a lot of good players who just do expert really easily and pick a song you struggle to do on hard.
The online play is basic yet very enjoyable, with many achievements getting you to win quite a few games in a row, both with the guitar and the controller. So if you're an achievement hunter then there are a few hours of gameplay for you to try and get all the achievements.

Guitar on a budget.
Review of Yamaha F310 Jumbo Acoustic Guitar by
Pyrokeet
Advantages: cheap, starter guitar
Disadvantages: cheap-looking finish, small
....
This means that for me, the bad points of the Yamaha F310 are its small body and narrow neck, the low height of the strings above the fretboard, the comparitively dead sound, and the look.
However, try it out yourself, you might like it! It is a Yamaha, so it is a good quality guitar, and for a very reasonable price (it was going for £75 where I saw it), so it is definitely worth considering.
Apparently you can get this guitar in a pack with other accessories, but I did not experience this so cannot comment on their worth....

Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock!?
Review of Guitar Hero 3 (Xbox 360) by
Rogue-XIII
Advantages: Online play and easier pull offs and hammer ons.
Disadvantages: Track list is hardly "Rock" few songs are likable. Guitar Hero 2 is better
...is a virtual fret board which is moving colored guitar notes towards you. When the note reaches the line at the bottom of the screen you simply hold down the corresponding button and strum as the note hits the line. If you hit the note the guitar will play that note for the song. Miss the note and the guitar in the song will stay silent for that note. Strum at the wrong time and a weird strum noise will let you know you missed the note. Very easy to get into. The real beauty of this game is that anyone can play it. You start off on easy mode and even though you may think it is hard at first you will quickly pick it up and within about 2 months you will (believe it or not) probably be playing the hard or expert mode and hitting hundreds of notes in a song! The learning curve from going from easy to medium to hard and eventually expert has been well...

While my Guitar gentle weeps
Review of Fender Deluxe Super Strat Electric Guitar by
lazza123
Advantages: Great sound, easy to play
Disadvantages: None at all
...on the designs of the day, which was hollowed body acoustic guitars, with some form of microphone inside, he did! In 1951, he introduced the Broadcaster, the prototype solid-body guitar that would eventually become the legendary Telecaster®. The Tele®, as it became affectionately known, was the first solid-body electric Spanish-style guitar ever to go into commercial production. Soon to follow the Tele were the revolutionary Precision Bass® guitar in 1951, and the Stratocaster® in 1954.
So quite a pedigree I think!
~~~ Where do you get them ~~~
Any good music shop will generally stock Fender guitars, yes you can get them on-line, but I've always found when buying guitars you really need to be touchy feely, I can pick up 3 identical guitars in a shop, one plays like a dream, the other two don't suit me at all. Also the staff in music shops...
Nautical themed guitars? Whats next?
Review of Yamaha CPX15 Handcrafted Acoustic Electric Guitar by
martirya
Advantages: Beautiful guitar, rich sound and great construction
Disadvantages: Pre-amp can have a little high treble.
..., it looks great around campfires and on stages. My friends have always told me when I play it that it look stunning. And it is, it s a beautifully made guitar, with a high quality golden finish. I'm product to carry it with me. It has a small transparent pick guard below the strings, this is merely for protection nothing else. It has darker sides giving it a tradition acoustic guitar look, and the maple neck is wonderfully made. The cutaway body makes it very comfortable to sit and play whilst being stylish and modern. It is made withMulti-ply bindings and also has an intricate inlaid rope pattern around the sound hole - it has a high-grade solid spruce top and solid rosewood back; cosmetic detailing elsewhere is suggestive compass series nautical theme. It has mother of pearl dot fret markers as well.
Playing it as an Acoustic Guitar
Applause AE64 Acoustic Electric Guitar
Review of Applause AE64 Acoustic Electric Guitar by
carl.mcqueen
Advantages: Beautiful sound, playability and look
Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!
...and melodic, rather than anything intentionally heavy.
I think I paid around the £200 mark for it, brand new, although it could have been about £20 higher or lower, I can't specifically remember. That in mind, I wouldn't fully recommend this for your first acoustic/electro-acoustic guitar, simply because you can find cheaper ones out there to help you get started. But believe me, once you out grow that and need to advance, keep this model in mind. It's fairly cheap price for a guitar of such quality is a credit to the manufacturer, so for anyone who knows their way around a fretboard, do yourself a favour and buy this guitar!
Also, should you need to buy any accessories to it, or even need to replace it due to a severe breakage, it shall be easy to fix, with Ovation guitar's being available from all over the Internet and all good music shops...
A perfect guitar for the beginners
Review of Squier Fender SA100 Acoustic Guitar by
the_enlightened_one
Advantages: Easy to use & light weight
Disadvantages: Sore fingers
...is the quality of the Squier Fender SA100 Acoustic Guitar; it's made by "Fender" the best guitar maker in the world!
The pack includes everything you need to start to learn to play the guitar.
Inside the box is obviously the Squier Fender SA100 Acoustic Guitar, which is made out of rosewood. It really does look a quality item; it's well made and is in a natural wood colour with a gloss finish. The tuners are made of chrome and not some cheap metal. The weight is very light and is very easy to pick up with the minimum of fuss, the guitar string are steel which from what I have been told has a far better sound than the nylon strings. Over all is a sturdy item that looks nice and seems to be well put together.
Also in the box is a black guitar bag which I thought was a good idea as it would cost extra money for a guitar bag. Sadly...
Guitar Hero II
Review of Guitar Hero 2 with X-Plorer Guitar (Xbox 360) by
TJGardner
Advantages: Guitar Looks Great, Very Addictive, Easy To Learn, Hard To Master
Disadvantages: Second Guitar Really Needed For Two Player Game, No Online Co-Op Play
...Everyone wants to be a Rockstar right? or is it just me? for years I have plugged away trying to learn guitar in the hope that one day I will grace the stage with thousands of fans screaming at me, but lets face it, that will never happen, so what am I to do? Well thankfully Activison have the answer in the form of Guitar Hero II, it may not bring me the dream that I once hoped of but it's as close a lot of us are going to get.
The first thing that strikes you about Guitar Hero II is how well the Guitar Controller is built, it just feels so natural in your hand and it is very comfortable, so much so that you feel like you are ready to tackle that game straight away, even if like me you have never played it before and although you can play this game without the controller, it just doesn't feel the same, meaning that the Guitar...
