Great little all rounder
Review of Marshall G15 R CD by
adsalamon
Advantages: Great amp
Disadvantages: cant play a gig with it really
...Marshall’s are the most world renown guitar amp manufacturer as every guitar player has probably plugged his/her guitar into one. Every one has used them from Jimi Hendrix to Eric Clapton to erm myself!
Not wanting a whole Marshall stack in my room I got Marshall’s little baby model instead.
The Marshall G15 R CD is a small practice amp. The amp is a 15-watt affair which is not too bad for a little practice amp and has an 8" custom speaker nestling inside the black box ready to belch out any sounds you care to produce.
Other features of this amp include a 3 band EQ with treble, contour and bass on it. The pre-amp contains two gain settings and there is also an in built reverb control next to the master volume control to add that little bit extra something to whatever you are playing.
The amp also features a headphone...

Best in its price bracket!
Review of Peavey Rage 158 by
MatthewForshaw
Advantages: Sound Quality, Construction Quality, Features
Disadvantages: Glitchy Gain, No Reverb
...158 to be very good, perfectly good for its use as a practice amp. The quality speaker, excellent construction and brilliant electronics all contribute to this. One minor problem I have with the amp is that the gain channel can sometimes be a little bit glitch if the input is too high from the guitar but I have never heard of this occurring on other Rage amps so I’m sure this is just a problem with my amp. Despite this, it’s a problem which can easily be solved by setting master volume a fraction lower on the guitar.
Durability
Peavey amps and guitars are renowned for being extremely durable and the Rage 158 conforms to this belief entirely. After owning this for a long time nothing has gone wrong with the amp whatsoever apart from a dodgy headphone jack which I actually blame on a broken adaptor I was using beforehand...

The Marshall MS-2
Review of Marshall MS 2 by
richnfg
Advantages: Very Cheap For a Marshall : ) Portable and Simple
Disadvantages: Batteries Won't Last Long
...alike. You will not get much variety out of this amp though, with only a tone control and distortion (on/off) you will be playing pretty much what the amp can produce (which I think sounds great).
The amp does also have a headphone socket so you that you can play the guitar to yourself whereever you are. There is an option for a power pack or batteries (so when you are at home you do not need to drain millions of batteries to use it).
Another point is that the MS-2 will drain batteries very quickly, just like the pedals and pretty much all Marshall equipment.
All in all, the amp was definetly worth the £25 that I paid for it. It is very useful for when you are travelling and want to take the guitar or just want to walk around the house playing. : )
I would recommend getting one just to say to your friends you just bought...

Complete Virtual Amplification
Review of Behringer V-Amp by
Nikeomax
Advantages: Sounds Great, Includes all the classic amp tones, a number of effects
Disadvantages: Short delay while changing between effects
...I had been putting off getting any effects for my guitar for a couple of years after starting playing, I was happy just using the distortion and reverb on my amp. There comes a time though when every electric guitarist will make that move and get some kind of effects.
There are absolutely loads of different effects units available on the market today which could make choosing the right one a little difficult. You could decide one type of sound you would like for your guitar to make, for example distortion, and then look for effects pedals which do that job. You’ll still have to decide which make you want though and how much you want to pay. But wait a minute, what if you want more than one effect? Well if you buy units that do just the one effect you’ll have to have one for each effect obviously. And you guessed it; it...

This amp covers all basses!
Review of Laney Hardcore MAX HCM15B Bass Practice Amplifier by
MatthewForshaw
Advantages: Wide Tonal Range, Quality Construction, Price
Disadvantages: No Reverb
...a Laney Bass Head for this application. This could prove to be very useful if you would like the extra power of a cabinet but you do not have the money to buy a bass head, this would be an excellent temporary substitute. Although no use to me, a nice feature none the less! :o)
Sound
----------
I’ve found that the sound quality of the HCM15B to be excellent for a practice amp of this price. Although reverb would have been excellent, this amp has mastered every feature it includes and I have been greatly impressed with this. The range of tones which this amplifier produces with ease is fantastic from extremely low B notes (this amp is perfect for 5-String players like myself) to high G notes any beyond.
Construction & Aesthetics
-------------------------------------
Throughout Laney’s range of guitar and bass amps, the same quality...

Peavey Rage 158 Transtube 15 watt practice amp
Review of Peavey Rage 158 by
davy_owen
Advantages: Great for its price. nice clean channel. Loud for 15 watts
Disadvantages: Terrible lead channel. No effects loop. No footswitchable channels.
...I purchased this amp as part of a 'starter package' for £180. That included this amp, a peavey guitar, case, cable, book and tuner. Personally I think the amp was what made the package worth the money, because it sure as hell wasn't the guitar... Anyway, enough of the unneccessary details, I assume you people are reading this to find out how it sounds. I won't put you off by just saying outright what I think of it, but I'll explain my reasonings to give you a better idea of what this amp is good for, and also what it is not good for.
It is a practice amp, plain and simple. It's not made for great tone, but for a person just starting out who doesn't want to fork out a lot of money. Its got 2 channels, lead and clean which I will discuss later, it has an 8-inch 15watt speaker so it's only made for low volumes, and to be produced cheaply...

Sounds of Excellence
Review of Line 6 Flextone Plus by
cskent99
Advantages: Awesome sound clarity, Awesome inbuilt effects
Disadvantages: Heavy
...As an avid electric guitar player, a good quality amp is imperative to my sound. The Line6 Flextone Plus provides more than just bang for the buck.
At 100w of power, you won't be left lacking whilst using this amp. Featuring Dual Celestion 12" speakers, chances are you won't crank this amp up to full very often. Speaking from experience, when you do, the sounds will blow you away. Often with amps, playing at full volume induces unwanted noise - this isnt the case with the Flextone Plus.
Featuring 36 different Amp and Cab models, 6 types of delay, 6 effects, and a fully programable interface - this is the new age amp revolution. No longer get stuck in a rut with tones. Switch with ease with the included FB2 - One minute be playing modern high gain over driven heavy metal, with the tap of a button switch to a clean jazzy tone, little bit...
