...My last review focussed on the controversial Kellogg's breakfast cereal for kids called Coco Pops Straws, a rather gimmicky idea to say the least. This review swings the other way completely to a traditional hearty breakfast, oats. ♥ SO Oaty ♥ This winter, Mummy Bear decided to buy some proper porridge instead of Ready Brek for her little bears, because no matter how carefully any of her bears opened packets of Ready Brek, they always seemed to create a vast amount of dusty mess all over the table, the floor and the worksurface. Mess which Mummy Bear had to clean up. So in the local Sainsbury's she looked at the porridge oats. There was Scott's Porage in a box and two bags of Sainsbury's own brand porridge to select from. Advantages: A very healthy and tasty snack
Disadvantages: Goes soggy and loses taste when left in milk for too long

...I am not mean by any stretch of the imagination - indeed, I can go on a spending spree with the best of them. However, one area on which I do hate splashing out is breakfast cereals!! When I see that the "well known" brands very often have their cereals priced at over £2.00 in my local supermarket, a chill does run down my back and I usually then opt for the cheaper supermarket own versions. This of course does then mean that I rarely try the new cereals on the market and so I am probably missing out on some tasty treats. I do, however, relax this method of shopping if the shop that I am in has an offer on the more pricey cereals. This is how I came to try the new cereal from Quaker - "Oat Crunch". Well, when I say new, debate is raging as to whether Quaker have just repackaged and so rebranded one of their old cereals known... Read review

Advantages: Great for a good morning warmer in winter and great flapjack

...I have always bought Quaker Oats as they are so great for a winter warmer in the morning and great for old English flapjack. * PACKAGING, CONTENT AND COST* Quaker Oats are packaged in a red upright easy to pour spout box with the age old photo of a farm man dressed in a blue suit and long wheaty coloured hair with the front section of the box saying Quaker Oats and a healthy heart symbol in white lettering on a blue background on the bottom of the box. They are very easy indeed to pick out in your local as all the boxes say Quaker very clearly on the front top left hand corner with the farm man photo. The box also states very clearly that Quaker oats are 100% pure rolled Quaker Oats and no other ingredient added at all at the front. They are all sold in 1kg size or equivalent to 2.2lb weight in the old imperial weight... Read review

Advantages: Very tasty biscuits
Disadvantages: Once you have one you may not be able to stop!

...Having been quite taken by the Nairn's Rough Oat Cakes, I thought I'd try another type of oat biscuit in their range and I have to admit I much prefer the new ones I have bought, Nairn's Mixed Berries Oat Biscuits. ~ Price ~ As of may 2006 my 200g box was £1.04 which works at approx 4p a biscuit, so not bad at all! ~ Packaging ~ The biscuits come in an upright, predominantly white box with a large tartan clad 'n' on the front and pictures of the biscuits and berries used. I have to admit that the pictures on the box make the biscuits look a much richer / deeper beige colour than what they actually are. They are certainly more of a light beige and don't have as many 'bits' in them either. Like the Oat Cakes I have been buying, I was pleased to see that Nairn's have continued packaging the biscuits in 4 bundles of 7. Each... Read review
