A floating cruiser
Review of Citroen Xantia 1.9 TD by
NickHall
Advantages: ride, handling(for a large car) and economy
Disadvantages: noise and parts cost
...around town.
The handling is better than expected and thanks to its weight and suspension the car can be flung into corners with gusto without fear of excessive understeer. A lift off around a fast bend only tightens the line and only above 100mph does the rear end feel floaty in the least.
For long distance cruseing the Xantia is hard to beat and although it may sound like a tractor the diesel engine returns a sound 45-55mpg on country roads and on the mororway.
parts are expensive to replace due to the all in one hydraulic system but thankfully the car is reliable enough with ours at 200,000 miles and still going.
In short a surprisingly good car in both practicality and performance....

Rest Of Vectra Opinion Don't Rate Here Thanks.
Review of Everything that starts with V ... by
RayMan_UK
Advantages: Continued From Vauxhall Vectra Opinion
Disadvantages: Don't Rate From Here Please Go To Vectra Opinion Thanks
...with it I reckon.
Check Or Cheques!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To check the oil or water, or any under bonnet perusal, you will need to lift the heavy bonnet. It isn't as hard as you might think, because this has been fitted with hydraulic lifting arms. No bonnet catch to wrestle with, when you want to keep the bonnet up. The hatchback tailgate has the same hydraulic lifting arms also. More ease of necessary use I think!
Fuel consumption, I work it out as an reasonable 35 mpg approximately. Quoted for different driving conditions on the Vauxhall website, I've found them to be pretty much as they say. Although this is a 2.2 litre engine, I find it very economical if you don't keep putting your foot down. It's not very easy to not put your foot down because the car just wants to go. If you think of the cost of petrol, it sobers you into remembering to ease...
the ultimate comfort
Review of Citroen BX by
bodsquidge
Advantages: many!
Disadvantages: almost as many!
..., (depending in what condition your hydraulic pump is in) the car lifts itself up. You kind of feel like you're going to take off!
3. Intermediate height - This is the clever bit - you're driving in the country side, and you see a beautiful place to picnic by the river, only there's a great big mount of earth stopping your car from approaching your paradise...well, you just lift your lever to position 3. and tataaaa....your car rises, leaving you about the height a 4x4 would.
4. Maximum height - this position is used to check the level of your hydraulic fluid, or to change your tyres or wheels. It looks really odd from the outside. The car looks like it's on stilts with tyres! You mustn't drive in this position, or just to get out of a tricky situation, at a very slow speed, knowing that you risk to break something.
~~I had the BX Turbo Diesel...
Pump up the pallet
Review of Pallet Trucks by
smudgeybabes
Advantages: It gets easier - eventually!
Disadvantages: Very hard work until you are used to them.
...Right, my challenge is to write a review on a pallet truck, not easy but here goes.
I shall do this review for anyone who does not know what one is, If you have used one please bear with me.
Unlike the pic here, most are painted high-viz yellow or orange.
The humble pallet truck, also known as a hand or pump truck, is one of those things that are taken for granted, but if you need some pallets moving, you need one! But, I hear you say, why not use a "proper" fork lift truck? Good question, however, you may not have a loading ramp, and need to move pallets to the back of a container, you have no alternative.
These little marvels work by hydraulics, and have small wheels, they do not work very well on uneven surfaces. They are easy to steer, as long as you let the weight of the load work with you, it is no good trying to fight against...
Long term dealer
Review of Lotus by
Paulo_pc
Advantages: Helpfully, Knowledgable.
Disadvantages: Expensive
...A second thumbs up for Haydons. Though they have gone through a name change as they went into liquidation recently.
Most Lotus owners are very precious about their cars so leaving it in the hands of a bunch of guys you dont know or trust can be stressful. No such problems at Haydons. I first stopped there with a bit of a farty exhaust on my S4 a few years ago. No worries said the mechanic in his Lotus Green jump suit, takes the car, pops it up on a hydraulic lift whilst i have a coffee in waiting area ogling the new cars. 20 mins later they’d lashed up a useful repair that lasted a few years. The cost ? Nothing - it was just quick job they said. Happy to help.
Their main man there, Cos (short for something!) is so helpful when you call to check the car in for yet another Lotus ism – need a courtesy car ? no problem here ya go, and they...
French and Stylish
Review of Citroen Xantia 1.8 SX by
John_severn
Advantages: Styling, Ride, Comfort, Gadgets
Disadvantages: Thirsty
...covered. The front seats can be fully adjusted, but the driver has extra settings of seat height and lumbar support. The steering wheel can be adjusted to height also, which provides a great driving position. In the rear there are two main seats with 3 point seatbelts and armrest, which has a flap to allow access to the boot. This can be lifted to provide an extra seat which has lap belt fitted.
External visibility is great as it has a massive windscreen, which as standard uses 20" wipers; I've changed these for 24" for a better sweep. The wipers have 3 speed settings, intermittent, normal and super fast. You can also pop the stick down for one sweep.
Storage inside is ok, but not great. There are map pockets behind the seats and a few cubby holes; you also have door pouches on each door. But no where to put any cups, I've had to buy a cup...
The Prettiest Cabriolet VW have ever produced?
Review of VW Golf III Cabriolet by
kelton_uk
Advantages: Unlikely to ever become a common car unlike an Escort Cabriolet or Rover Cabriolet
Disadvantages: Not the quickest car in the world..
.... Since then the car has developed a multitude of other faults:
Ignition Barrel Failure : This happened with the power roof in the fold position and the advice offered by Stanwells, Boston, was that I could take the car into them in a week’s time and that I should cover the car in a tarpaulin in the meantime. No mention was even made of shutting the hydraulic pump valve in the boot off and manually lifting the roof up. This was replaced under warranty a week later by Stanwells.
Coil : Replaced by AA – return part supplied under warranty.
Starter Motor : Replace under warranty – after a three week wait.
Hydraulic Pump for Power Hood: Currently inoperable – will not be covered by warranty – cost to replace £590 + Labour. - Sorted out by finding a pump from an escort cabriolet ina scrapyard (cost £10)
Rear Wheel Bearings : Replaced at own...
The GREAT cannondale chase 2 2007
Review of Cannodale Chase 2 by
noshb2k7
Advantages: nearly everything including the frame, forks, brakes, wheels and 1.5 big headset
Disadvantages: the shimano alivio front mech and the double chainrings on the front
...these are better than the old ones it would be good to invest in an even better set of forks if you are half decent at jumping as you will find these will end up rock bottom on the bigger jumps.
The brakes now are hydraulic hayes HFX 9s which are alot better than the cable discs, more precision stopping although a front brake is not really required for jumping but still good to have for other rides.
The sun single track wheels are really strong and after having the bike for 3 months and jumping with it still have no buckles or dints. The tyres which are maxxis holy rollers, (26 x 2.4) are quite big and the tread does not wear away easy as mine are still near new.
The pedals are great for grip as when you stand up for the jump you can feel the pedals gripping to your shoes and never once have my feet slipped on these pedals yet.
The bads points...
Subterranean scenery
Review of Tytyri Limestone Mine Museum, Lohja, Finalnd by
fizzytom
Advantages: Surprisingly interesting, one of Lohja's few visitor attractions
Disadvantages: Gets cold, not for people who are claustrophobic, limited opening
...at the little information office. First you must pick out a hard hat to wear - they come in all colours and sizes but do make sure it is comfortable because you'll be wearing it for the best part of ninety minutes. You also need to wear fairly sturdy footwear and something very warm in winter months, quite warm at other times.
First you get to see the old entrance to the mine; alas the hydraulic wagons no longer work but there are stairs and at the end of the tour you can, if you wish, make your way back to the office by the stairs. From the office it looks a long way down but something more dramatic is to come.
From here the whole group goes across the car park to a new building that houses not only banquet and conference facilities (apparently this is THE place in Lohja for wedding parties) but the high tech lift that takes you to the first...
Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brakes
Review of Avid BB7 by
helix1250
Advantages: Easy to fit and maintain plus great price
Disadvantages: Will need adjusting from time to time
...Overall:
The Avid BB7 mechanical disc brake is a good option if you're looking for an aftermarket mechanical disc brake that's both affordable and adjustable. By most accounts (including mine), the Tri-Align Caliper Positioning System is the easiest way to mount a disc brake on a mountain bike, and it allows you to spend less time cursing tiny shims and stomping around your shop or garage.
While I wouldn't argue that the long-term performance of the Avid mechanical brakes trumps that of most hydraulic brake systems on the market, they're far and above the best mechanical disc brakes that I've tried. If you have the choice between a set of Avid mechanicals and pretty much any other mechanical disc brake available today, go with the Avid and save yourself a bunch of headaches and many days of sore hands. If you're considering a set...
