All in one survival kit and inner tube
Review of Panaracer Inner Tube by
Pritch
Advantages: Virtually indestructable
Disadvantages: Price, slightly heavier than average
...As anybody who's ever managed to get a puncture along the length of the seam on their inner tubes will tell you, riding with just a puncture repair kit is not a good idea. Realistically, you need to take a spare tube for the punctures that just cannot be patched owing to size/ham fistedness on your part. Also, if you're going to be whipping the tube out and putting it back in again, you may as well just get rid of the middle bit where you mess around with patches anyway. With this in mind, I always carry a spare tube.
The Panaracer tube is a fairly hefty beast. Your average butyl rubber tube is fairly flimsy, but this one could probably be used as a lasso for capturing deer or other wild animals that happen to be around if you get stranded! Quite frankly, I've never seen such a thick wall on a tube. Weight junkies will turn...

Rolo me over
Review of Nestle Rolo by
nancyoshea
Advantages: Tasty, sweet, chocolatey
Disadvantages: fattening
...For anyone who has read any of my opinions will know, this mad granny simply adores her chocolate.
Rolo's are one of my many favourites and often find their way into my weekly shopping.
They cost 34p for a single tube and £1.09 for a packet of three tubes.
The tubes are brown in colour and have a gold foil inner lining.
Each tube contains around 10 rolo's and this is more than enough to fulfill a pensioners appetite at the best of times.
Rolo's are small rounded cups of chcoloate filled with a chewy caramel centre and they are simply delicious.
They are very sweet and creamy and the caramel compliments the chocolate perfectly.
They smell sweet too, and have a distinct cocoa aroma.
As with all chocolate, rorlo's are quite fattening so to indulge on too many could be bad for your waistline but if you're an old lady like me and have lived...

more convenient than the tube
Review of Getting around in London by bus by
kenduffy
Advantages: reliable cheap
Disadvantages: slow
...Having lived in north london for the past 3 years I have learned to both love and loathe the bus service. There are two fare tiers at present 70p for Outer London
and £1 for inner London. I use the bus service to travel around outer london as
it is regular, pretty reliable, cheap and never too busy. However I never use the bus service in central london as the roads are virtually in continual gridlock and it is quicker to use the tube or even walk. Most of the buses are relatively clean
but some of the drivers are far too grumpy for a job dealing with the public....

Dr Sludge self seal innertubes 26x1.75x 2.15
Review of Dr Sludge Self Sealing Inner Tube by
dingoo
Advantages: safer, less hassle, easy to use
Disadvantages: More expensive then normal tubes
...I have kitted my bikes out with these, for years I have hated getting punctures and now there is a solution.
I bought mine for £4.99 online from chain reaction cycles, free delivery so a good place for bike goods.
How it works
Basically within the rubber tube there is some fresh air reactive slim, that when punctured the slime oozes out of the whole and reacts to the fresh air.
This then hardens the slime and you don't have to drag of your wheel and doctor the hole in your tube, it save a lot of hassle.
There are two main types dr sludge, which I prefer and slime, they both do the same job in the same way but I find dr sludge better.
The future
Basically I'm not sure how long they live but they do work well, saving the purchase of new tubes and repair kits, its worth a punt at £4.99 to see if they work for you.
Unless something...

Bird Feeder
Review of Nuttery Globe Peanut Feeder by
redballoon
Advantages: Feeds only the small birds!
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...I am always trying to encourage birds in to our garden. I find them a joy to watch and love having nature in my garden. I have many feeders in the garden including this one. I have found this to be the best one so far as it is nearly impossible for squirrels to gnaw into it and steel the food.
It is a globe shape design and in the middle it has a wire tube in which you put the nuts or bird seed.
The wire globe around the inner tube is just big enough for the small birds to fit through, to get to the food. It stops the larger birds such as the annoying pigeons or magpie's getting at the food as they are to big!
Whilst the birds are feeding, they will feel safe as the wire globe around them will protect them against any predators such as the cats in our garden.
This is such a great design as I feel that we are often not doing our best...

Dealing with a flat tyre
Review of Bicycles by
trickster
Advantages: saves you walking home!
Disadvantages: be prepared to get your hands dirty
...of spoons) between the rim and the tyre and lever off the tyre. I would do this by starting with inserting the handle of a spoon under the bead (the steel cable hoop) and prizing one side of the tyre bead over the edge of the rim, then insert another spoon two spokes away from the first and repeat the process, once the third spoon is in place the middle one should fall out and you can use this to repeat the process again.
After you've done this a few times the tyre will be loose enough for you to run either a blunt knife or your fingers round the rim and pull the whole of one side over. Once you've got one side off, reach in and pull out the inner tube, leaving the other side of the tyre in place.
---FINDING THE PUNCTURE---
With the inner tube pulled out, partly inflate it and find the puncture. If you are at home, you can pass the partly...

Great headphones for travel
Review of Sennheiser PX100 by
roadmonkey
Advantages: Lightweight, foldable, good sound
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...I use these mainly with my portable DVD player. They are lightweight and very comfortable and cleverly fold up into a box (about the size of a glasses case) which keeps them compact and well protected. They also have a nice long cable.
The sound quality is really good, being open design they do leak sound so you wouldn't be too popular if you had thumping drum and bass on the tube on these but for my use they are fine. They also let a lot of sound in, again not ideal if used in noisy places.
They are great to take traveling, or maybe use with a laptop etc as they pack up so well but are much more comfotable for prolonged periods than inner ear ones....

Its Not A cisuM llaH Joke
Review of Anusol Cream by
jimbuck
Advantages: Quick acting
Disadvantages: A bit messy
.... Haemorrhoids are when the blood vessel walls weaken and form a bubble just like a bike inner tube that pokes through a hole in the tyre. You get the picture.
The relief was almost instant and within a few daily applications the “bubble” had been shrunk and the problem was solved until the next time that a constipated bowel meant straining to relieve the contents that put extra pressure on the weakened blood vessel.
I don’t know what a tube costs these days as it is years since I have had to buy one but for the less severe case of haemorrhoids I would recommend trying Anusol before that embarrassing meeting with the doctor....

Insertion and Womanly bits!
Review of Tampax Tampons by
VickyVickster
Advantages: sits inside you,no unsightly pad, very little chance of leaks
Disadvantages: a little awkward to insert at least at first.
...those last.
Ok so you take your Tampax tampon out of the packet (after thoroughly washing your hands) and you have a cylindrical cardboard tube with a rounded end. You pull an inner tube out from that tube and end up with something around 4 inches long with a string hanging out of the end.
What you need to do is find a comfortable position. Sit on the toilet with your legs wide apart or squat down with your knees apart (only for people with very good centres of gravity!) or stand with one foot on the toilet seat.
I started out with one foot up on the toilet seat and made the first attempt. I failed miserably. I couldn’t grasp the outer tube and push in the inner tube at the same time.
I took out the tampon and started again (it was still all intact) sitting on the loo. I faired a bit better here but I still found the applicator a bit...

Review of Asda Freestyle Tampons by
mandynoble
Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: they don't work!
...OK, not a brill subject to be writing about but after my experience a few weeks back I thought it was my civic duty to post a warning!
Before I start on the product you have to understand 2 things:
1. For the guys - we ladies don't have it pinpointed to the minute when to expect the motnhly misery, we sometimes get nasty surprises.
2. Germany closes down on Sundays and I have yet to find a Tampon vending machine in any hotel/pub public toilets.
So.... after getting a surprise on Sunday in Munich I was relieved to find the usual "just in case" supply of ASDA tampons in my handbag. This was the first time I'd purchased this product. What I am about to tell you now is not for the faint hearted!! The inner tube just sticks! There's nothing at all you can do about it, there's a dimple on the tubes that you can't do anything about...
