X-Type Diesel - OK if you get a good one.
Review of Jaguar X-Type 2.0l Diesel by
RICHADA
Advantages: Jaguar badge. Styling. Lots of options to play with.
Disadvantages: Very little equipment. Cramped interior. Some not very refined.
...I have to start by saying I don't own or run an X-Type Diesel, came very close to doing so, but then discovered the Accord Diesel and purchased that instead.
I test drove one of the launch cars last year at Company Car in Action at the Millbrook Proving Ground. It was an option laden d Sport and looked superb in black.
Very impressive was the overall refinement, I informed the Jaguar staff on the stand quite honestly that I would be replacing my much liked 2.5 V6 (petrol) Omega with this car.
However my wife was not present to ride in this car and I booked a test drive with our local Jaguar dealer just for her to try it out before signing on the dotted line.....
.....and what a good job we did try that second car!
This one was more London taxi than Jaguar, it also had quite the worst wind noise that I have experienced in a car. My...

Review of Jaguar X-Type 2.5 by
KatiePuckrik
Advantages: A great car, a great price and a great ride.
Disadvantages: Soft suspension a bit too soft.
.... But if you are the kind of person (like me) who thinks fuel economy is important, then there is another option. You can buy the X-type with a diesel powertrain. The great thing about the diesel engine is that whilst you get the benefits of diesel mpg figures you don't get an engine which sounds a Massey Ferguson tractor! The diesel is surprisingly quiet and doesn't cost much more than a petrol version. But I should stress that while the diesel engine is rather quiet, the petrol engine is much quieter. This is where you will have to work out which is more important for you. Fuel economy or asthetics?
Now for some bad news, there is one colossal problem with the Jaguar X-type. The Jaguar X-type is built on a Ford Mondeo platform (chassis). So, effectively, the car you are a buying is a Ford Mondeo. Which is why the Jaguar X-type, never really took...

Review of Jaguar X-Type 2.0l Diesel by
Kev.F
Advantages: Does what it says on the can.
Disadvantages: Has me permenantly smiling.
...I have had my £11,000. 2004. X-Type SE D 2000 for a month now and I love it. I bought it with 5600 miles on the clock, from a lease company. Tow bar to tow my caravan, roof rails to take my bikes and windsurfers, and a cavernous interior to swallow anything I need to transport anywhere. I was initially dubious about purchasing one, having read unfavourable reports and listened to tales of gloom and doom from people who only seem to want to use Jaguar sites to publicise other makes of car. Some of them, cars I would not touch with a barge pole. My car goes like stink. I am 6ft 2in and find the car comfortable. It has full leather, has a great sound system, is beautifully quiet, drives really well and does everything I want it to do in spades. I have been driving for thirty five years. Mercs, Rovers, Fords, VWs, Landrovers etc...

Jaguar by Name, Cheetah by Nature.
Review of Jaguar X-Type 2.0l Diesel by
lightman9
Advantages: Stylish,Quick,Pleasure to drive.
Disadvantages: No Automactic at this time
...and no automatic option. My wife would probably add another in so much as the customary Sat morning wash often lasts all day as once you start you tend to carry on with polishing etc. Then you just take a couple of steps back and you reassuringly know why you spent the extra on a Jaguar. Would I buy another one ? without a shadow of a doubt.
Oh and there is one other REAL DISADVANTAGE .... All the family feel the same and I am running out of places to hide the keys !!!....

Jaguar, prestige and class? Not any more.
Review of Jaguar S-Type 3.0 by
JPCcomputers
Advantages: Excellent Jaguar Warranty. Dealer service very good. Turns heads.
Disadvantages: NOT reliable. Poor built quality. Jaguar DO NOT return emails!!
...I once owned a Jaguar X-Type and had may problems. I decided to part-ex it for an S-type.
Since I purchased my S-Type I have had nothing but problems. I do not expect a car that cost £36500 new to be so poor. I have had rain water in the luggage compartment, jogging when accelerating and constant misfire.
I have noticed that there are lots of Ford connector etc. in and around the car. Is Ford's intervention the problem? Trim rattles and do not fit correctly.
I am told that the jogging and misfire is a faulty ignition coil, but unless the engine management light appears Jaguar are unable to identify which coil is faulty. It just cost me £401 to replace all six coils and spark plugs. Unfortunately this did not fix the problem, it made it worse....
I have been told by two Jaguar dealers that the ignition coil problem...

Yes, still a real Jaguar
Review of Jaguar X-Type 2.0l Diesel by
MarkBrock
Advantages: Refined, quick, capable chassis, plush
Disadvantages: Not vast inside, some cheap touches
...At first glance, the X-type might struggle to make it onto a shortlist of “sports executive” diesels. The 150bhp 3-series continues to dominate the class bolstered by value-for-money special editions, the much-hyped Honda Accord offers a lower-cost alternative, the Audi A4 offers best-in-class build quality, and there is the Mercedes C-class range – both the last two with a choice of engines.
So with just 128bhp from its Mondeo-sourced engine, the X-type doesn’t seem to have much on offer. Or so I thought – having ruled out the Honda on the basis of an unsettled ride, I had resigned myself to hanging on to my 4-year-old 320d until the replacement appears in 2006. But I was persuaded by my wife to try out the X-type – the outcome was that I now have a Pacific Blue 2.0d SE in the drive.
First impressions – well, I had always liked...

Jaguar are the best!
Review of Jaguar X-Type 2.0l Diesel by
Chimplerd
Advantages: Kept the classic look
Disadvantages: Not a huge boot for an estate car
...is 125 mph.
Technical Stuff
The engine is a 86/86 bore stroke 1,998cc engine made by Jaguar with 128 BHP. This gives you decisive, rapid acceleration when you need it, while the high levels of torque (244) at low engine speeds make for fast, relaxed cruising.
Extra Car additions.
This car comes with :-
A CD player
Front and rear parking assist
CD storage space
Leather interior
Air conditioner
Rear arm rest
Cup holders X4
Boot Storage cover
Electric seats
Radio
Electrically powered wing mirrors.
My personal experience with this car
This car is great to be a passenger in (since Im only 15 i cant drive yet). Since i live in liverpool, and most of my family live else were for example London and Manchester, this means we travel quite a distance each year. Unlike a past Jaguar we had it doesnt have any Electrical or Mechanical breakdowns...

Fancy a ride in my Big Pussy?
Review of Jaguar X-Type 2.0l Diesel by
matsu65
Advantages: Classic Jaguar looks and comfort
Disadvantages: Diesel take a bit of getting used to
...to have for the next 3 years.
Part of the deal we have with our agency is that we get extended test drives on 3 choices from the car list. The cars I chose were the new Audi A4, a Volvo V50, and finally the Jaguar X-type 2.0D S Estate. All three cars had features that really stood out, but it was the Jaguar that managed to edge it although it was a close run thing.
Being on the road a lot, and having a young child, there are certain things that I need from a car. I do some seriously long journeys so comfort is paramount, as are safety and reliability. Needless to say, it has to provide good handling on smaller roads and be responsive on motorways. Since I spend half my working life sat inside a car, the looks and feel of the interior tend to be a lot more important than the exterior, though I freely admit there are some cars I wouldn...

What a great car.
Review of Jaguar X-Type 2.0l Diesel by
Rob099
Advantages: Economical, comfortable, good looks
Disadvantages: A bit noisy when cold - poor customer service in the North
...I bought my SE diesel in Jaguar Racing Green in 2004 down in Guildford (Fox's of Guildford).
Fantastic customer service by people who care.
The JRG colour was gorgeous - sparkles of gold when in sunlight - but showed the dirt quite quickly.
Comfort : very nice interior in champagne leather throughout and with a choice of different veneers for the trim - I chose walnut maple. One small niggle was that for such a large car, the leg room in the back was poor.
Economy: Urban motoring which I did mostly was 34 to 35 mpg - I once managed 62 mpg on a motorway trip but had to stick to under 55 mph which is difficult to do and causes annoyance to other road users - maintaining sensible motorway speeds I got around 48mpg.
As with most deisel engines, the torque in low gears was quite high, giving very quick acceleration for such a large...

Jaguar 2.5 SE 4WD
Review of Jaguar X-Type 2.5 by
Barbarossa
Advantages: luxury, smmothness, stunning looks, power, comfort, space, driving pleasure
Disadvantages: small glove box, low mpg on urban cycle.
...65mph and a tendency to pull sharply to the nearside. Obviously tracking and balancing needed but otherwise the Jag was A1.
We agreed on £7100 which I feel was a bargain as it had only done 40000 miles and drove like new.
Balancing solved the wobbling problem but tracking was not enough to stop the pulling to the nearside. The tracking was way out on the offside front wheel and this had caused uneven wear on that tyre. I had the two front tyres swapped over and that solved the problem. Needs balancing again though !
What can I say about the Jaguar 2.5 SE 4WD X-Type that doesn't involve choking on my own superlatives ? It is magnificent - that is the only word for it. I was a sales rep for 30 yrs and have driven all sorts of vehicles but the Jag beats them all. It's hard to believe it's essentially a Mondeo in a party frock but as I had...
