Strait to the point
Review of Lanza Strait Line Thermal Defense by
T21AMY
Advantages: Works a treat, can be used for a variety of purposes
Disadvantages: Quite expensive, limited availability
...I asked Ciao to add this product to the site as I thought a few of you ‘straightener addicts’ out there might find this stuff useful. Oh, and it really works which always helps…
☺ Ok, so who exactly are L’anza ? ☺
L’anza International Inc are an America based company with a UK distributor based in Aylesbury, Bucks. The company was founded by Robert DeLanza who boasts quite a story. Born and raised in Eastern Europe in a communist society, Robert was a university-trained chemist and worked his way to the very top of his profession. However, he dreamed of a better ‘western’ life for him and his family and in 1976 he moved to California.
The DeLanza family began manufacturing professional quality hair products in their garage in the evenings, which they would sell onto the local salons. Robert’s English was limited...

Review of Spanish Eyes - Al Martino by
pinkmatchstick
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...Al Martino's biggest claim to fame is that he was the first artist to have a UK No 1 single. When the very first Top 40 was published in November 1952, his "Here In My Heart" sat proudly on top of the pile. It's nice to think that whatever else can happen in your career, they can't take that away from you.
What fun it is to look at that first chart. All those great singers like Mario Lanza (a close friend of Al's), Vera Lynn, Guy Mitchell and…..er, Max Bygraves with the immortal "Cowpuncher's Cantata". But we're getting off track somewhat so back to Mr Martino.
He was born Alfred Cini in Philadelphia on 7/10/27 and began his singing career with help from Mario Lanza, the Italian-American opera singer. Indeed it was Lanza who passed over the opportunity to record "Here In My Heart" that allowed Al Martino his big break...

The most beautiful Cd I possess
Review of Il Divo - Il Divo by
makeup4brides
Advantages: Relaxing beautiful harmonies and vocals
Disadvantages: None that I found
...( Toni Braxton) in Italian/ Spanish and also of Frank Sinatras "My Way" . I was completely captivated by the whole ambience of the cd - It is clearly the best Cd I possess. It is romantic, moving, exhilarating, powerful, words cannot describe the mix of emotions it produced. It completely blows G4 out of the water, these four men are in a class of their own - they are all from musical theatrical backgrounds from Madrid, Paris, USA and Geneva, they are all very attractive to look at but most of all they have voices to woo even the hardest of women (or men actually) !!! Carlos from Madrid has the aire of Mario Lanza ( I'm not old enough to remember him but my parents have his LP's !!! ) Sebastian's vocals in Passara are sharp crisp and pitch perfect. They all could be singing about boiled onions and rotten eggs in Spanish or Italian the pure...

Heavenly...
Review of Heavenly Creatures (NEVER RELEASED) (DVD) by
Lewman
Advantages: Beautiful storyline and performances
Disadvantages: None at all
...Christchurch, New Zealand, 1952: two school girls become friends and swoon over Mario Lanza, "world's greatest tenor," as they create a fantasy world of royalty and intense emotional attachment to one another. This is teen escapism carried to the nth degree. Innocence and wholesome fun do NOT prevail. As the parents grow increasingly concerned about their daughters' obsessive relationship, the girls begin to hate the parents... Based on a rather shocking (for its time) true story.
Kate Winslet made her film debut in this modest comédie noire from way down under. It is amazing to realize that three years later she starred in the Academy Award winning Titanic (1998), on her way to establishing herself as one of the most charismatic and talented stars of the past decade. In retrospect, her budding talent is apparent here as the spinning...

Not worth the hype - or cost
Review of GHD Professional Ceramic Straightener by
fuzzibear
Advantages: Shiny hair
Disadvantages: Cost
..., & waited eagerly for their arrival.
When they eventually arrived, I was actually disappointed. They’re quite small, with thin plates. I found them slightly awkward to work with, and I prefer straighteners with a comb attachment, and none of the GHD range comes with this attachment.
I did like how quickly they heated up though, but that was about their only redeeming quality for me against my old ceramic plated straighteners.
They do leave your hair shiny and straight, but I don't think they're worth the money for them, and I eventually sold mine on eBay.
Another point of caution is the amount of people who believe that it's ok to straighten your hair every day with these without using heat protection, then wonder why their hair fries. It's important to use a heat protection pray, such as Infra-treat, L'Anza Strait line, or Charles...

Moving, Powerful, Magnifico!
Review of Italian, The - Patrizio Buanne by
egscott
Advantages: Powerful Romantic Vocalist
Disadvantages: NONE
...slow and easy, then gradually builds to a full swing/jazz Italian number. You can tell that Patrizio enjoyed recording this song. He even growls out a couple of notes in all the excitement and fun of the song. This is a song you will set your CD player to repeat.
The biggest surprise on this CD is the unbelievable job that Patrizio does with "Home To Mamma". It's actually "Funicula Funicula" with new and fun lyrics co-written by Patrizio. He pulls out all the stops, and suddenly turns into an opera singer just this side of Mario Lanza! His powerful vocal artistry combined with the Philharmonic Choir, makes this song a goose-bump giving hit. I love it!
"Alta Marea" is the Italian version of "Don't Dream It's Over" by "Crowded House". Patrizio combined with the orchestra horns makes the song a truely romantic masterpiece.
A nice light...

Hmmm - I'm not going to New Zealand
Review of Heavenly Creatures (NEVER RELEASED) (DVD) by
TheNeil
Advantages: Cast, production
Disadvantages: Weird and twisted
...New Zealand cinema, like Australian cinema, is not widely appreciated around the world and seeing Heavenly Creatures, it's easy to see why. Strap yourselves in, we're about to enter weirdville...
Based on a true story, this is a decidedly strange tale of the friendship between two girls and just how far friendship should go. English schoolgirl Juliet becomes best friend with Pauline, with the two sharing a common love of Mario Lanza and mythical worlds. Together they invent and explore a strange new world of their own, slowly depending upon each other more and more, and retreating into their make believe world. So when Juliet has to leave for South Africa, Pauline naturally wants to go with her - shame her mother doesn't agree. With this one obstacle in their path, the two friends embark on a dangerous course of action...

The 4th Dimension
Review of Heavenly Creatures (NEVER RELEASED) (DVD) by
BanjoBear
Advantages: Weird, Offensive, Truly extraordinary, Great Story and Acting
Disadvantages: None
.... There is a shocking conclusion, and many other challenging and emotional events, which occur during the movie which make it an absolutely excellent and totally original story. This movie is based on a true story, although I'm sure Peter had his way with it to make it much more exciting. The story has the potential to be disturbing, and offensive, but it contains some great acting and is a truly original piece of work, which couldn't be seen anywhere else except Australasia.
There are many excellent computer animation sequences in this movie and the soundtrack and acting are both superb. The script is well written and contains many of Polly's actual diary entries which makes the movie so much more real and emotional.
Peter Jackson also makes his customary cameo appearance just after the girls gaze longingly at a picture of Mario Lanza, their favourite...

Fine family break
Review of Lanzarote (Spain) by
Cazz
Advantages: value, climate, family-friendly, short-haul, etc
Disadvantages: unpicturesque, windy
...“You’re not going to ‘Lanza-grotty’, you must be mad!” was the most common reaction from friends when I told them. However, whilst questioning to help make my mind up it transpired that hardly any of them had actually BEEN to Lanzarote, and were basing their opinion on indirect sources they couldn’t actually recall… “but they do call it Lanza-grotty, right?”
I had never actually been to the Canaries at all, tending to opt for the Med for holidays in the sun in that kind of bracket. Pre-family years it tended to be very random as we weren’t too fussy – securing a number of superb deals by just booking the fortnight we wanted off work then ringing round the bucket-shops on Teletext a day or so before. However as we now have the needs of a 2 year old daughter to consider we knew that lots of the micro-apartments we have crashed in over...
