...was able to feed Kay and not have any pain at all. Also because milk builds up in the shield and your nipple is sat in a little puddle of milk then they heal up quicker as the milk is an excellent healing agent. Within a day my breasts had healed to a point where I could feed without the shields and Kay didn't seem to mind what was available (breast or shield) as long as the milk was on offer. I don't think I would have carried on breast feeding if I hadn't have used the nipple shields. As every womans body (and baby!) is different then the shields won't work wonders for everybody. Disadvantages: Constant sterilizing.

...but on the other side she needed the shield. Eventually we managed to dispose of them. These nipple shields were a god send for me. I was really looking forward to feeding my baby myself and in those early days I became quite upset that I wasn't managing it. I felt that I had somehow failed as a mother, particularly as all of my friends had had no problems. The shields enabled me to continue to feed, when I would have otherwise have given up. The down side of using shields is that you do have to be careful to sterilize them properly. I used to also sterilize a little plastic pot and then put a pair of clean shields in the pot ready for the next feed. Advantages: It is not a well known tourist place so the price of accomodation remains chea.
Disadvantages: It is a little cold, take some thick pullovers.

...The pain of sore nipples is unbearable and I would advise any new breastfeeding mother not to struggle through it as I did when I had my first child. Being a young mother I didn't feel as confident to query what the midwife told me and went along with whatever was suggested to me. The problem I had was sore nipples, and was told there was not a lot you could do other than grit your teeth and the pain in effect would toughen your nipples (this was only 8 years ago) I did live through the ordeal with no help and successfully breastfed my daughter for 18 months. At this point I wasn't aware nipple shields even existed. ...When I had my first daughter I was so determined that I wanted to breastfeed. I did really great in the hospital but when I was at home on my own it all seemed to go horribly wrong! (If you are pregnant and considering breastfeeding please don't be put off by these stories! The pain etc only last for a short time I promise!) I basically couldn;t get Rachael latched on very well and I ended up with cracked nipples which were agony and bleeding a bit and getting quite scabby. Feeding was agony, the midwives always said to me count backwards from three and then the pain goes away but I couldn;t always get that far without wanting to scream. ...I bought this product because I had an almost enless supply of gushing breastmilk 24 hours a day! I was feeding my daughter on demand to the point of bursting and still itt came... I was changing my clothes more times thatn the returns queue at marks and spencer at christmas - something had to be done!! I had tried the usual breast pads but they were useless in my particular circumstances then salvation arrived in the form of the Avent breast shells! Halleluha! - teh breast shell are clear plastic shields you place over your breasts - they are held in place by your bra. The shields themselves look like half a tennis ball - the idea being that the drip drip drip (or gush) is collected in the shield and then emptied at regular(sometimes very!) intervals. Disadvantages: Boots brand are better

...on your body - are being chewed for about an hour, every other hour! The only reason the pain lessens after several weeks is because they basically toughen up - develop scar tissue, if you will! I was so ready to give up, but luckily another mother had given me nipple shields from Boots. I was dubious - they look too big to work - but the instant I put one on my baby she latched on perfectly and the pain, while not disappeared entirely, was hugely lessened. I continued to use the shields for the next 3 months. They allowed my nipples to toughen up gradually, with almost no pain, and so now I don't even need them. There has been no - I repeat - NO problems with milk flow, feeding patterns, anything! My little girl is a healthy, happy, well-fed child. Midwives are told (by the NHS!) not to recommend nipple shields because some study somewhere... Read review

With bob Martins Micro shield spray there is little smell and the other cat dosn't know whats going on. Your pets basket,bedding,carpet and soft furnishings should be vacuumed regularly. Purchase a good quality environmental insecticide and spray these areas,in fact any place your pet hangs out. After having this 14 day treatment using Bob Martins Micro Shield, they dont go berserk and dash outside, as they would with other sprays they are calm, and when it's all over they just do their own thing. Soon they are at their dinner bowl unconcerned. I would like to mention it is toxic to fish,so cover up the goldfish.
