Advantages: Fascinating modern history that will appeal to all

...Kennedy Space Centre is on the east coast of Florida about 2 hours drive away from the International Drive area of Orlando. My friend and I paid around $60 (including return coach to International Drive)to visit this fascinating part tourist attraction/part working site last August as part of a trip to Orlando and it was practically deserted. This is a real shame as there is so much history contained wihin the various exhibits which includes the awesome spectacle of the gigantic Apollo V rocket lying on its side in a dedicated hanger, a mock up of a space shuttle where you can see the truly cramped conditions the astronauts have to endure, and a simulated moon landing complete with real-life footage. There is also a very poignant monument of all those who lost there lives in space exploration made up of reflective space-shuttle tiles... Read review

Advantages: Sci Fi for all the family!
Disadvantages: phoney monsters, restrictive sets, mediocre acting

...Lost In Space was and still is one of my favourite television series of the sixties. I remember coming home from school trying to watch these at tea time on a channel that was never very clear. Having now this DVD collection of the entire first series and with such excellent quality video to disc transfer is a real treat. Created by Irwin Allen, who's series included 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea', 'The Time Tunnel' and 'Land of the Giants' Lost In Space was very similar in some ways to 'Roddenberrys' 'Star Trek' which incidentally was rejected at the time by CBS in favour of the aforesaid series. Filmed in black & white the first season was much more serious in tone than the latter ones, which tended to be more camp because of the competition of Batman which was being aired around the same time. ...It's not very often a low-budget American TV series from the mid-Sixties gets made into a multi-million dollar movie, but New Line Cinema decided to do just that with Lost in Space ­ and boy, is the result trashy! The movie can't quite decide whether it's a camp update of the original TV series, or a serious science fiction epic. It's made up of mainly CGI effects with bad acting and poor dubbing piled on thick. Many have raved about the movie, but this reviewer found the whole experience quite hilarious! Having said that, Lost in Space makes quite a decent DVD. They have really gone all out to give fans of the movie the full Lost in Space experience with a good selection of extras, all packaged into a clunky but cool interactive menu system. ...Aside from the characters, it's not much like the campy 60's series. The Robinson family's animation is suspended while the Jupiter 2 cruises to a planet ten years away. This version of the vile Doctor Smith is great as the villain. Though I like William Hurt immensely he is miscast as John Robinson. OK -- the head of the family is a heady scientist, but Hurt I can't see as action hero. The rest of the cast is solid -- the ubiquitous Gary Oldman (is he British, or what?) is eminently dislikeable -- though not nearly as goofy as his television counterpart. Get ready for another franchise. "Lost in Space" is entertaining. I'd pay to see a sequel. Great for every one... Read review

...Unfortunatly this is an absolutely terrible film. Like many I like the sci fi films and like Joey from friends so thought this was bound to be great especially with if there are also great special effects. How wrong I was. The special effects are pretty good although the choice of spiders as the evil aliens on the ship was perhaps questionable. The first half of the film is actually quite good introducting the characters, Joey cracking some wise ones and the introduction to what looks like quite a good plot. Unforutantly it is the 2nd half that simply makes no mistake. Bringing in time travel into the equations was a very silly plot mistake with huge "proper" science fictions series often finding it difficult to tackel, Lost in Space tried to in 20 minutes and failed completly leaving almost everyone confused. ...What can I say, I mean the film is superb for it's visual effects and all, and the story line well it's ok not much; but it's rather entertaining in which you see sexy people even the mother in the film looks pretty hot (actrually the actress who plays the mother got her kit off in one of these film five movies). Anway the story line simple earth getting killed by the ozone layer thats being damage by humn people and hey the top scienentist of the planet got a brilliant idea and wanna build a warb drive circle thing thats gona let them travel through space in a split of a second, to another planet which is habitable. Anyway they get in to trouble cos some dodgy dude trying to ambush the mission, anyway thats when the excitment starts and all the joy rides begin, buckle your seats and see good looking stars becone sexy space navigator... ...PANTS, PANTS, PANTS. Yes you may have guessed it I did not like this film. Why? The storyline is forced, no nice flowing story line, just a few lightly linked ideas wielded together very poorly. The story, space ship with family goes to find new worlds to save earth, space ship is sabotages and ship ends up lost. Some wired time splits happen and family gets catapulted some where else, (we do not know where as the film ends, probably because they thought there would be a sequel. The plot is predictable hollywood and script has some terrible lines, sentimental hollywood trash, that does not come off. The actors, well are they bad or was the script terrible, if Gary Oldman, looks poor you know it is not all the actors fault. Matt Le Blanc unfortunatly looked like Joey from friends going for a movie audition, yes that bad. So... Read review
