Lowe Alpine Walkabout Air
Review of Lowe alpine by
thereviewersblog
Advantages: Very stable even when 1/2 full thanks to frame sheet, ventilating back, padded shoulder straps and hip belt
Disadvantages: The lid pocket's on the small side, heavy for a daysack, small for a weekand sack
...This is Lowe's best-selling backpack for hikers who are dependant comfort, reliability and stability; well that's what they say on their website. I would have to agree, this day pack was fantastic when used in the Peak District for a day pack.
The packs construction is very durable and versatile. I found that the design was exceptional, it makes use of 'Pure Air Zone back' which suspends the load away from your body, giving ventilated comfort while maintaining stability. This allowed sweat to be wicked airway, rather than stay on your back. However, this is because it uses a internal frame, which does make it a little heavy for a pack. Nevertheless, the shoulder and hip padding and back system make it very comfortable.
The main sack does appear to be rather small, but does allow all the required equipment and clothing to be stored...

Pretty phlox on the rockery and the garden wall
Review of Phlox by
mumsymary
Advantages: pretty ,easy-ish to grow.
Disadvantages: eel worm
...Phlox.
You may have some Phlox in your garden, I have none at the moment but have had in the past and my parents also have grown Phlox.
Phlox is a plant genus native to North America family Polemoniaceae... There are nearly 70 species of Phlox some up to 1 1/2 metres tall and suited to the general garden, some short forming low mats of plant.
Phlox flowers colours are red and pink shades, also white some are a blue. The word Phlox meaning flame when I look at a tall red phlox flower I can see why it is called that.
Most of the phlox I know are perennials some are annuals.
I am not going to talk about the bedding phlox but alpine ones since this category is in the alpine flower section.
Moss phlox grows well in a sunny rock garden, likes the well drained soil. This plant grows a mound of small slender leaves that is covered...

Plants for your rockery
Review of Saxifrage by
mumsymary
Advantages: Easy to grow
Disadvantages: None
...in the spring and summer this is really good for ground cover .
There are several saxifrages grown by gardeners on their rockeries they are low growing have quite fleshy leaves, the leaves often grow in a rosette. There are some where a stalk grows several centimetres tall and several flowers are on the stalk. Some like 'Suendermannii' have pretty pink flowers. There are others with white flowers. The flowers are bright and pretty having 5 petals
There are many saxifrages that will happily grow in alpine or sub alpine conditions, some Saxifrages grow in woodland or edge of woodland areas some in grasslands. The plant you may know as Astilbe is a member of the saxifrage family This is a tall plant60 cm 2 feet it has fern like leaves and it has erect feathery flower spikes , the flowers white , pink , or purple they flower mid to late summer
I...

Pump up the jam
Review of Alpine CDA-9851R by
skuzzle
Advantages: Best sound quality in its price range
Disadvantages: Ugly as sin
...The ultimate in ICE (in car entertainment). ALPINE!
A big name for many years in the automotive industry delivering some of the best amplifiers, headunits and speakers available.
The CDA range definately does not dissapoint. Featuring all of the classic alpine qualities including the old alpine look with the 4 buttons to the left of the round volume control (which now functions as a whole lot more).
Its an absolutely ugly headunit as all alpines are, a pig to operate and I dont think there is anyone in the world that has mastered every option on an alpine unit since they first started producing them, but from the moment you first power it up you fall in love with the depth, warmth and clarity of the sound reproduction. My favourite trick is to leave the eq exactly as it comes from factory, but to increase the subwoofer output level...

Can they kick it
Review of Huddersfield Town by
BIGHORSE
Advantages: Big stadium and fan base
Disadvantages: As always, money money money
...Huddersfield Town are a club with quite an illustrious history to live up to, and after reaching the Autoglass Trophy Final in 1994 they returned to the first division, where they are at the moment. They are 5 times FA cup finalists, which sadly for them has only resulted in one FA cup win, in 1922. They are also one of the only clubs which can boast a back to back to back win in the top division, in 1924, 1925 and 1926, and also they were runners up to the title in 1927 and 1928 as well; an incredibly impressive 5-year period. On the other side of the coin, they did drift out as low as the Third Division, which they won in 1980 to go back up to the second division.
As far as the club goes, The Alfred McAlpine Stadium holds just a few hundred under 25,000, and is a very nice modern stadium with under-soil heating. Training facilities...

Miles of Music on one Aiwesome CD.
Review of Aiwa CDCR504MP by
thenumnum
Advantages: Free Fitting, Plays MP3, Easy to use, Great Sound
Disadvantages: Not a big brand, not easy to integrate drive stalk
...flashing moving bits that make your dash look like a cheap arcade game.
The Aiwa is more of a reserved powerhouse. It glows beautiful neon blue at night, and is highly readable during bright sunlight. The controls are easy to use, especially the cd skip/reverse and shuffle functions, and the Volume knob is stylishly steel looking and very responsive.
The main thing that got me about this stereo is the sound. I was expecting fairly OK sound from a brand like Aiwa. Instead I got something that I would expect to hear from an Alpine (albeit low end Alpine). The bass is wholesome and punchy, the treble clear and sharp, and the mid-range sits nicely in the middle without any loss of clarity or muffle.
I really was surprised that this was from a 120 quid machine. It sounded like something twice that.
The facia comes off, and has a nice hardback...

Good, but could be better
Review of Alpine TDA 7570R by
drummingbunny
Advantages: Number of features, sound quality, radio reception
Disadvantages: Overkill
...I have owned an Alpine 7570R Cassette/Tuner since Christmas and I am fairly pleased with it. It was a replacement for a standard fit radio which had been playing up and I had hankered after an Alpine for a while. It has a huge number of features (most of the buttons have multiple functions) and it will take a good few evenings with the manual before you can do more than turn it on.
It has all of the radio RDS features that you'd expect from Alpine: AutoSearch, traffic information, radio station messages and programme information. All of these features (except the radio info, which is just distracting if you want to see which station you are listening to) are useful and I like them.
Other good features are the Programme Search function for tapes to allow skipping forward or back as many tracks as you choose. It also has a removable...

Supreme Switzerland!
Review of General: Switzerland by
tallyrand8
Advantages: stunning
Disadvantages: pricey
...on numerous occassions. Locarno is a very upmarket lakeside resort with a funicular. It is not reccommended to travel to Zermat as we did, the journey was very long and the low cloud which contrasted the Italian sunshine made the journey pointless!
INTERLAKEN
Do NOT miss the annual Swiss Day celebrationson the 1st August in central Interlaken, after this day it is likely you will feel more passionate about Switzerland than your home country!
Must see - Jungfraujoch - choose your day carefully, as if its cloudy it might be snowing on the 3,500m viewing station/platform in the middle of summer. Go early in the morning to beat the Japanese tourists who will be fighting for a seat on the trains. Stunning views over the Aletch glacier!
Must see - Schilthorn - get a train from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen. This valley is a stunning U shaped glacial...

Ups and Downs of Serre Chevalier
Review of Serre-Chevalier by
Fiona_Tims
Advantages: brilliant skiing, alpine village prettiness, great English speaking ski school, Close to Italy and other resorts.
Disadvantages: Not to great for veggies and nightlife fairly low key.
...So far i have only skied 4 times, in Flaine (France), Serre Chevalier (France.....obviously!!), Borovets (Bulgaria) and Bad Hofgetein (Austria).
Serre Chevalier has been the most enjoyable for the following reasons:
Many of France's ski resorts are high altidude and therefore purpose built, usually with concrete grey buildings and not much else. Serre Chevalier is a pretty alpine style village with tree lined sking back to the village. We stayed in self catering apts right in the centre, and whilst not brilliant, they were certainly fine as a place to eat and sleep (coz as skiers know, u won't be spending a lot of time in your accommodation). They were brillaintly positioned facing the world cup downhill run, and sitting on the balcony late afternoon and watching skier after skier fall in sucession was great entertainment.
Ski school...
