Half fat, full taste!
Review of Sainsbury's Half Fat Crème Frâiche by  vickitomlinson

Advantages: Fantastically versatile, tasty, good value
Disadvantages: Although it is 50% fat free, it is still 15% fat

...It is a sad fact that far too many reduced fat products also seem to be “taste reduced” – thankfully Sainsbury’s Be Good To Yourself 50% less fat Crème is not one of these! It can be bought in any branch of Sainsburys, and is found in the dairy section (near the cream) costing around 89p for a 200ml carton, although it does seem to be on special offer quite often. The carton is mainly white and is cylindrical in shape, being approx 6 cm tall and 9cm in diameter. The lid of the carton displays the navy blue and turquoise “Sainsbury’s Be Good to Yourself” logo in large lettering (these logos can be found on any and all healthier own brand products around Sainsburys), underneath which are the words “50% less fat” in small white letters against a turquoise stripe. Beneath that we... Read review

The Man Who Has Plenty of GOOD Peanut Butter . . .
Review of Tesco Value Peanut Butter by  jesi

Advantages: Cheap, no artificial additives, makes good peanut butter candy [RECIPE INCLUDED!].
Disadvantages: Only 87% roasted peanut content (3% < USA standard minimum), slightly oily, peanut pieces a bit large

..."The man who has plenty of GOOD peanut-butter and GIVETH his neighbour none ~ ~ He SHAN'T have any of MY peanut butter when HIS peanut butter is done ~ ~ When his peanut butter is do-o-o-ne, when HIS peanut butter is DONE ~ He SHAN'T have any of MY peanut butter when HIS peanut butter is done! . . . . O that will be JOYful, JOYful, JOYful ~ . . . . O that will be JOYful when HIS peanut butter is done." The Peanut Butter I was recommending on the 23rd of May 2006 was Tesco value crunchy peanut butter at 84% peanut content. However, I bought a new jar on 15th December 2006 and discovered they had changed the recipe. Previously containing: Roasted Peanuts, Vegetable Oil, Sugar and Salt, it was free from artificial additives and hydrogenated fats. Old "Allergy advice: * Contains nuts." The new recipe seems to be similar... Read review

Lethal Butter From The Parish of St. Cadog, Wales
Review of Menyn Llangadog Welsh Butter by  bigush

Advantages: Good for vegetables and indian cooking.
Disadvantages: Heart attack pending.

...is mashed potato and swede together with pepper and Welsh butter. Both dishes are made for our old mountain gods and highly recommended by them! It also serves as an excellent alternative to ghee in traditional Indian cookery. So Langadog butter is basically generic Carmarthenshire butter but produced in one small area of that county. All Carmarthenshire butter is the same in taste and quality as described above. It is unusual to find outside of Wales although the most famous brand, 'Sir Gâr' is often available in M&S and Sainsburys. It is usually considered a speciality item and is priced at the top end of the price spectrum. If you like rich salty butter, check it out. The packaging is pretty, see below. I'm off, the boys are at the door with a bucket of tar and a sack of feathers!... Read review

Real butter wins the taste test every time
Review of Country Life English Butter by  izzwizz

Advantages: That lovely, creamy taste
Disadvantages: It's butter, so there's a lot of saturated fat

...Country Life is my favourite butter and is available in two different types: a standard butter in a block, and a spreadable butter in a tub. PACK APPEARANCE Both pack types have the distinctive gold and green packaging with a splash of red. Country Life make a big selling point of the fact that their butter is English on the front of both packs. PACK SIZE - The Standard Butter The normal, everyday block of butter is available in two pack sizes. The 250g pack is 64p in Asda and Tesco or 63p at Sainsbury’s, and it only saves you a penny buying the larger 500g pack size, at £1.27. With a small family, I prefer the small packs because they stay fresh longer. For me, it’s not worth buying the bigger blocks for our small family because they sit in the fridge opened for too long. (Please note, my prices are based on fairly small “local... Read review

"I Could Believe It Wasn't Butter!"
Review of I Can't believe it's no butter by  micksheff

Advantages: Very easy To Spread
Disadvantages: Contains A Lot Of E Numbers

...upside down if you really want to know what you are about to eat, but more on this later. Onto The Spread Itself As soon as you remove the plastic lid you are greeted with a white greaseproof seal covered in more advertising spiel "Toast Can't Believe It….Crumpets Can't believe It…..It looks as if the marketing people at Unilever are convinced that they have come up with a winning phrase and they are determined to ram it down our throats. Underneath the seal you finally find the rich yellow spread. I had half expected to find this stamped with the now familiar logo but you will be pleased to hear that it isn't. So How Does It Compare To Other Products? Visually it resembles a soft margarine much more closely than a butter that it pretends to be. The texture is quite soft even after being refrigerated for a few days... Read review

In praise of peanut butter
Review of Whole Earth Nut Butter by  Worrals

Advantages: Packed with energy
Disadvantages: You'll have to burn it off

...are among the few foods still indisputably good for you, and if we are to believe the propaganda - which I choose to - the health benefits of peanut butter are enormous. Full of fibre and folic acid, vegetarian, low in saturated fat (though quite high in the unsaturated kind, which may be better for you but is still fat). I find that on the days I have peanut butter for lunch, I'm less likely to get hungry in the late afternoon and woof a Mars bar. I stop short of peanut butter and banana sandwiches, though, which my karate instructor recommends as a light nourishing meal before class. I still get through a lot of peanut butter. It features in my lunchtime sandwiches at least once a week, sometimes accompanied by Marmite (it's a family tradition), jam or honey. If I come home cold and hungry, peanut butter on toast is what I crave. Tesco... Read review

delicious peanut butter!
Review of Tesco Low Fat Peanut Butter by  mandella2

Advantages: reduced fat, suitable for vegetarians, smooth.
Disadvantages: none.

...This peanut butter is my favourite out all varieties of beanut butter. Coming from tesco, I believe it is reliable and very much affordable at just 80 p (0.24 p per 100g ). Having 25% les fat than Tesco standard smooth peanut butter, this peanut butter is a delight to eat, being reasssured with this fact. The smell is absolutely gorgeous and once you eat some of this smooth peanut butter, you immediately want more. This 340g jar of peanut butter is suitable for vegetarians, and the glass jar is suitable for recycling. Each tablespoon contains 85 calories, 5.8 g of fat, 1.3 of which saturates, and for salt there is not enough to be counted, so it is written as trace. ( Each tablespoon would typically weigh 15g )The ingredients of this peanut butter are glucose, vegetable fat, salt and 77% peanuts. This peant butter is produced... Read review

Body Butter - Body Better
Review of The Body Shop Satsuma Body Butter by  Sgathach

Advantages: Revitalises skin
Disadvantages: None

...the fat of the fruit by crushing and boiling, it is an emollient agent and can also be used for cooking and sometimes it is used in making chocolate by substituting this for cocoa butter. Cyclomethicone - A silicone oil used to impart shine and silkiness. Glycerin - Glycerin is a humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to your skin. Glycerin is a natural by-product of the soap making process. Citrullus Vulgaris - Watermelon. I see now why I only know it as Watermelon! Seed Oil - err Seed Oil. Glyceryl Stearate - A normal byproduct of digestion; can be obtained from animal fats and plant oils including Soya bean, palm kernel and corn oil - so it's an emollient, moisturiser and emulsifier. Peg-100 Stearate - A natural special fatty acid blend. It's used to help keep creams, lotions and gels together with other ingredients... Read review

Low fat high taste
Review of Low Fat and Diet Recipes by  pixiedon

Advantages: Lower in fat, still taste good
Disadvantages: None really

...or King Edwards but I'm not fussy) Wash and peel Cut into small pieces - about 4-6 per potato depending on the size Parboil for 5-10 minutes Leave to cool for a few minutes so you don’t burn your fingers doing the next task. Whilst the potatoes are parboiling you should preheat an oven to Gas Mark 6 or 200 Scratch the surface of each potato and sprinkle a little salt over them. Now place on a baking tray and cook for 45 minutes to an hour. What you will be left with is lovely, low fat potatoes, crunchy and crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Team with skinless chicken and plenty of fresh steamed vegetables (I prefer carrots, garden peas & broccoli) for a tasty Sunday dinner. * Potato wedges - use 1 dessertspoon of extra virgin olive oil and 2 medium potatoes per person. You can either use a little salt and pepper... Read review

My Skin Is Soo Kissable...With The Nutty Butter
Review of Boots Mediterranean Almond Pistachio & Milk Body Butter by  karimkha

Advantages: Gorgeous smell, instant shine and long lasting.
Disadvantages: Can be very addictive.

...products which will all care for your body . . . these start from body lotions, body butters, body scrubs, through to bath creams, and body wash, using very interesting ingredients which sound good enough to eat (such as orange, lemon, honey, almond, pistachio, vanilla and avocado)! I'm going to review one of the best in their range . . . Almond and Pistachio and Milk body butter. I tried most of the range; I can't say I liked them all, some of them smelled like sick! But this one is just perfect for me! ALMOND~PISTACHIO & MILK BODY BUTTER . . . WHY IS IT SO GOOD? They have used natural organic almond and pistachio oils; by using the organic product we benefit from naturally grown nuts with no chemicals or hormones included, so this can be counted as a positive point. PISTACHIO OIL It has a strong... Read review
