Powerful HP Server!
Review of HP ProLiant ML370 G5 Performance - Dual-Core Xeon 5150 2.66 GHz by  andycharger

Advantages: Lots of resource, processor power and expansion
Disadvantages: Price and extras needed.

...Fantastic performance , flawless reliability and reassuringly pricey is a good way to describe one of our Proliant ML370 servers here in the office. If you need your server to deliver cutting edge technology with bulletproof backup, this is a must for any self respecting IT guy. The Proliant range from HP has been around for a few years but the latest generation takes advantage of shrinking sized parts and components and power saving methods to evolve an already successful product. We have both the G5 and G4 models of this server and the main obvious change is the disk size. The hard disks (and it can take up to 8 of them) and the newer slimline serial SCSI type rather than the Ultra SCSI in the G4. Faster and with the same lightning response time, they obviously draw less power resouce from your server and power supply. Inside... Read review

Great value servers
Review of HP ProLiant ML370 G4 - Xeon 3.6 GHz by  goosey2

Advantages: Good build quality, easy setup
Disadvantages: Looks a bit dated

...I have been building server for about 10 years now and have tried many different brands, such as NEC, DELL, Fujitsu, ASUS and IBM and none of them compare, except maybe IBM X series as a very close second, to the HP ML300 range for build quality and ease of setup. Although the front is a little bland and dated looking, it is functional and easy to access. When you take the lid off and look inside you can immediately see that a lot of thought has gone into the design and positioning of the components. The airflow is well directed over the memory and CPU's whilst still being easy to access when it comes to installing additional components. The Smart start cd that comes with it makes configuring it a breeze. Even with a basic understanding of server technology almost anyone can get it up and running with the minimum of effort. With space... Read review

Good second hand buy
Review of Apple Power Mac G3 - PPC G3 266 MHz by  domcaz

Advantages: Cheap, Expandable, Stylish
Disadvantages: No firewire port, as time goes on clock speed may be too slow

...I was recently asked to set up a small business with 3 new macs on a small network on a mediocre budget. And to cut the long "what to buy debate" story short, we plumped with 2 second hand G3's and an imac. If we had bought brand new computers they would all have had to be the most basic imacs and this wasn't really suitable (as 17" screens were needed). The blue and white G3 is, in my opinion a great 2nd hand buy. They are being sold off in the bucket load at the moment by people upgrading to G4 and are still very stylish and fairly fast computers with the added advantage of being very upgradable and therefore ther obsolete half-life should extend longer than imacs sold with similar specs at the same time (and will last a LOT longer than a PC bought at the same time). G3's have built-in 10/100 ethernet which makes simple networks a joy... Read review

Canon G3 owner review
Review of Canon PowerShot G3 by  dno36

Advantages: Excellent features, great colors, excellent flash, sweet lens.
Disadvantages: No stabilazation

...Having owned a G1 previously, the step to the G3 was not a "risk" for me. I was drawn to the upgrade by the 4x zoom, the 4mp, the digic processor among other minor issues. I have been generally pleased, however I have had corrupt file issues using a Crucial 4 GB card and a 2 GB Sandisk card. I have recently purchased a Kingston 4GB 45x to see if the higher speed helps it. My impression vs. the G1 is that the camera is quicker to take pictures end to end. Not super-fast, but quicker. The flash on the G3 is excellent and usable for illumination or fill, in any situation without washout. The dedicated battery is outstanding!!! I can shoot 2x as many pics on a battery at a wedding as my brother can with his D70, and my pics look better overall. The swivel LCD is wonderful. If it were 2.5" & 200k res, it would be perfect. The f2.0 lens... Read review

G3 - affordable power or misfit?
Review of Apple Power Mac G3 - PPC G3 266 MHz by  fiorbitleeds

Advantages: faster than predecessors (Performa 6400 etc)
Disadvantages: not enough improvement and now superceded by iMac & G4

...Having purchased my G3 new in Xmas '98, I was keen to get the speed and power I'd longed for. I've always had Macs (12 years plus) and worked with them, but never been able to afford anything big or fast. This new machine promised to be a SIGNIFICANT increase in processing speed and sheer "MEAT" - however it has consistently failed to live up to it's expectations. Firstly; it has ALWAYS been "buggy" - whatever O/S I install (gone from 8.0 thru' to 9.0.4) and seems prone to minor addressing errors (lost defaults, minor directory damage, un-accessible data etc) Secondly: I don't appear to have gained much ACTUAL speed, despite going from 166Mhz processor to 275Mhz Also: it is VERY difficult to keep running "on top form" - I am a keen "amateur mechanic" and like my machines to be tuned to maximum performance, but it has always been hard... One Bad Apple...
Review of Apple Power Mac G3 - PPC G3 266 MHz by  Paiceyjohn

Advantages: Industry standards
Disadvantages: Too many to list - stress is a killer!

...The G3 machine I have at my work is blue, the same shade of blue as the vein throbbing in my temple every time I spend a prolongued amount of time working on it. But not as blue as the language that issues from my mouth as soon as the thing crashes for the first time that day. I thought PCs were unreliable. They are. Macs have this reputation for relative reliability. It's baloney. Give me a PC any day. It seems to me that everything associated with this accursed machine is designed to cause aggravation, from the QuarkExpress software that won't co-exist with the Apple Talk network right down to the mouse that gives me a sore wrist. Giving it a nice colourful plastic shell isn't enough. Someone should sit down with Apple and their software partners and give them all a stern lecture on usability. They've got a captive audience... Review of Recipes for Soups by  melodysparks

Advantages: Hot and filling
Disadvantages: if you dont like pasta you wont like this

...(zucchini) diced 100g/ 3 1/2 oz French (Green) beans diced 1.5 litres/ 2 3/4 pints stock (Vegetable or chicken) 100g/ 3/12 oz chopped tomatoes 2 tablespoons tomato puree 85g/3oz dried spaghetti (broken up) 60g/2oz butter 50ml/2 floz olive oil 1 bunch fresh basil finely chopped 100g/3 1/2 oz Parmesan cheese rind salt & pepper freshly grated Parmesan cheese to serve Serves 8-10 helpings METHOD Finely chop or dice the vegetables and garlic. It doesnt matter how big the pieces are but i prefer finely chopped and small diced vegetables its easier to cook Heat the butter and oil together in a large pan (the oil stops the butter burning and going brown) then add the bacon cooking for 2 minutes some... The CD Burning Machine
Review of Apple iMAC Indigo - PPC G3 500 MHz - 15" CRT by  Cool_Orange

Advantages: Speed, & Small
Disadvantages: You have to install more SDRAM...!!!

...Have you got an imac at Home. It's an item every home should have... !!! Since the Original Imac, improvments and extras have been added. First you had a choice of Colour then, came the Models with faster G3 Processors. Then the DV and Special Edition's which came in the same colours as before. Next after the Success of the G4 came A brand new look for the DV's with dull colours.... NOW you have the Imac with the Ultimate Data recording facility, the Apple CD Burner. From my experiences of the DVD player on the DV's you might as well not have it... Get the CD Burning imac instead!!! Also the look to the machine is different because you now have a choice of either : Dalmation Print, or Flower Power designs. The Spec's : A new Processor which is a G4 500Mhz ( Nice and quick ). And almost all the same spec's as the imac DV... Read review

Sexy Blue (or green, red...
Review of Apple iMac Indigo - PPC G3 500 MHz - 15" CRT by  lmgfa

Advantages: Good Lookin' , Easy to use , that bit different, very powerful
Disadvantages: The mouse is round - Style?

...The definitive home computer in looks, style and not least power. Apples G3 chip in a translucent box - a must for all style and computer fans alike! A great investment for the home and small office users as well as anyone wanting to leave the masses of Bill's legionarys and go for a MacOS box - and a very nice looking one at that! As said by apple this really is a easy set up machine - mine was online and surfing within 5 minutes out the box and I my five year old could almost have done the same. The only thing about this toy would have to be the power cable in a slug-like green crawling off the desk. But this wouldn't be a toy now, would it? 'Daddy has to work on the iMac' could be a phrase closer to you than you think. Five minutes with it and you'll love it!... Read review
