Review of Mordaunt Short 902 Bookshelf Speakers by
TomF
Advantages: Looks, smoothness of bass, crispness of treble
Disadvantages: Look to nice to leave to grilles on all the time
...I can't begin to descirbe how much i like these speakers.
The sound quality is incredibly clear. Very occasionally, older/lower quality recordings can sound a bit nasal, but this is not an issue. Everything from Led Zeppelin to Madonna is reproduced with almost frightening clarity and realism. These speakers sound incredibly open and warm, and are incredibly musical
Bass is something that Mordaunt Short have always done very well. These speakers go down to 55Hz, although in-room this is far lower. The bass is very flexible, yet still dry. They can do the deep sine sweeps often found in music by bands like the chemical brothers, but a bass drum in music by the white stripes is reproduced with equal weight and drive
The treble that comes from the aluminium dome tweeter is fantastically clean. It sounds very sharp for an acoustic...

Maybe you need REALLY SHORT short hair...
Review of Lynx Short Stuff by
mugglewump
Advantages: Good smell, holds okay
Disadvantages: On longer short hair like mine it makes you look like you have dandruff
...Well time for my second op!
Again with the hair care products (i'm obsessed with my hair... if you hadn't guessed lmao!) this time i'm talking about Lynx Short Stuff Styling Wax.
It comes in a nice little container, attractive to the eye with contrasting and bright colours, it caught my eye as I was browsing the hair care aisle while shopping for things to make me look dashingly handsome and pretty much drop dead gorgeous for the up-coming night out. I had always usually been impressed by the Lynx range so thought I would go with product loyalty and purchased it. It was priced around £3.20 for a 75ml pot. You can get it cheaper or more expensive from other outlets though.
Getting home, I needed to get ready, so went upstairs and gently threw the shopping bags onto the bathroom floor (you'll notice I do this alot... lol...

Review of Cinema 16 - European Short Films DVD by
Ailran
Advantages: Everything about this DVD is an advantage!!!!
Disadvantages: Only if you don't like foreign cinema, and even then you should find something to like in these shorts!
...For those of you that love film, and European film in particular, this DVD is a must have. It consists of 16 short films by some of Europe’s best and brightest directors. Most of them were made before the Directors hit the big time (as far as I can tell but I cannot guarantee that as some of them I haven’t heard of), even including film school graduation shorts.
This DVD consists of 16 funny, innovative and experimental shorts, all with commentaries recorded mainly by the directors themselves.
The short film is incredibly difficult to pull off, economy of script, direction and an ability to convey as much as possible is of vital importance when you need to tell a complete story within a compacted time period. Many a short filmmaker does not pull this off, I’ve seen way too many that are okay or just not entertaining at all...

More than just a story that happens to be short.
Review of Writing short stories by
Bryn_Pearson
Advantages: the most versatlie writing form.
Disadvantages: It takes time to perfect any skill.
...There is more to short story writing than putting down in a few pages the outline of a tale that would make a good film or novel. Most people who hope to be writers and who are just starting out tend to asusme that a short story is like a tiny book, but this isn't true. The forms and conventions of short stories are very different and need to be properly considered.
If you want to read around, there are plenty of good anthologies you can pick up - The Norton Anthologies of American and English lierature are huge tomes containing some varied and inspiring writing. A trip to your library should furnish you with some good reading material. I would recommend you have a look at Edgar Allen Poe, Margaret Attwood, D.H. Lawrence, and Oscar Wilde, although there are no shortage of other greats, these just happen to be my favourites...

Morrisons Short grain rice - a great dessert
Review of Morrisons short grain rice for puddings by
Jeser
Advantages: Widely available excellent value for money, great pudding
Disadvantages: takes longer cooking
...A GREAT WINTER PUDDING!!
As I have always been a devoted cook who loves baking and making puddings as I mentioned on my previous very interesting op on the recipes for desserts section for my rice pudding I wrote last Wednesday as I always buy pudding rice to use for puddings and rissoto's - as a great winter pudding as rice is very substantial.
Not only from mine and other devoted cooks findings is short grain rice great for puddings, but also due to it's very high starch content it is great for my Recipes for rissoto's serves 4
4 tablespoons of short grain rice washed in sieve ( 1 tablespoon of rice per person )
A pinch of salt and pepper
50g butter
selection of vegetables of your choice
Method
vegetable baked rissoto cakes by blanching your rice in a pan till water evaporated, then add butter a pinch of salt...

Short, but hardly sweet
Review of V.I. For Short - Sara Paretsky by
Ariel
Advantages: One excelent story, playing with the genre, and interesting to see how some ideas develop into novels, and others don't.
Disadvantages: Many of the stories seem very thin. The short story is not her best form.
...V.I. For Short is a collection of short stories about Paretsky's tough female Chicago detective, V.I. Warshawski. Covering almost a decade, this is something of a mixed batch - a couple of fully formed short stories, a few that were clearly ideas being trialed that wisely made it no further. Without the scope of a novel, several of the stories seem very thin, with many of the characters only loosely sketched, and others rely heavily on you knowing the cast ahead of time from the main series. Only one, The Maltese Cat, a homage to Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon, right down to the feme fatal client that opens the story, really stands out as a story in it's own right, and one that would have been good with or without the series.
The collection gives an accelerated overview of V.I.'s personal life between cases - she moves from...

Cut a long story short and buy this book
Review of To Cut A Long Story Short - Jeffrey Archer by
so3003
Advantages: Thought provoking, thoroughly absorbing stories
Disadvantages: You waste ages reading it!
...“To Cut A Long Story Short” is a collection of short stories, by the currently very controversial author, Jeffrey Archer. While the media have reported recently his colourful antics “after hours” as it were, the reader of this book gets to learn a little about the colourful goings-on of Lord Archer’s imagination.
There are 15 stories in all, and as the blurb on the back cover says, every reader will have their own favourite. The stories range from very short, almost anecdotal, tales of love at first sight, to much longer, intricate webs of intrigue. Indeed from what we have heard recently in the media, a great deal of the works in this collection may stem directly from the author’s own personal experiences, and certainly many of them are acknowledged at the start to have been inspired by real events...

Eat My Shorts.
Review of Writing short stories by
Claw
Advantages: The gratificatio is more instant (particularly for us boys with short attention spans!)
Disadvantages: When it boils down to it, it's a question of talent.
...Humble opinion on its way.
The secret to writing short stories is a matter of focus. Young or inexperienced writers get this focus wrong. What they do is dwell on that word 'Story'.
Their expereince of that comes from TV, film or fiction, generally novels. Whatever the medium for inspiration, it is usually a long one. To tell a story takes time. At least 70,000 words or 90 minutes screen time. Not often are short stories read for inspiration, and yet some people think they will be easier to write.
The focus should not be on 'story', but on 'short'. Think of a length, then tailor the writing to it. You don't tell a story, you relay an event. It does not necessarily have to have a beginning, middle and end; you haven't the time or space to establish this. What you need is at least two people and an occurence away from the norm...

So You Want To write Short Stories
Review of Writing short stories by
Voyagemag
Advantages: Good Market research is essential
Disadvantages: More needed
...So You Want to be a Short Story Writer
Join the queue!
The vast majority of would-be writers start out wanting to write short stories drawn by the idea of sharing the lure of sharing the highs and
lows of the expansive emotions and imaginings with the rest of the world. After all, providing you have the talent would easier way can there be to make a living at writing, right? - Wrong.
There are several pitfalls you may not yet have considered:
