...Call of Cthulhu was one of the first games I ever played as a role-player and it's still one of my favourites. I've never played a game in which characters enter rooms with their eyes shut to protect themselves just to be ripped to pieces by the monstersthat dwell in their. Playing the game means your character has a difficult line to tread between finding out too much about the Cthulhu Mythos (alien monsters that are real bad!) and going mad and staying sane but knowing enough to survive. It's also a game that wipes PCs out like there's no tomorrow. In one campaign I played one player got through more than 10 characters as they keptgetting killed. Luckily character creation is very easy and yet gives you a lot of freedom.... Read review

Advantages: Lots of ways to mess up your players day

...This sourcebook mixes two very popular genre, horror and cyberpunk. Steve Jackson games now have a limited licences from Choasium Games to use the Cthulu mythos in their very popular and easy to pick up GURPS RPG. Take the basic section from the Cyberpunk source book and the basic horror source book. Then add all the common creatures and items from the mythos, and what you get is a very good source book to aid in the battle against the creatures from the unknown. Owners of the Cyberpunk or horror source books might be a little disapointed as a lot of the source material is duplicated by neccesaty for the people who don't own these books. A very useful section is how to convert characters and creatures from the offical Choasium Books into GURPS. This give the advantage that you can play the cthulu game using the GURPS system... Advantages: Brilliant movie with great story and cast
Disadvantages: People who have seen Firefly previously may get more out of it

...Serenity is the movie that was born from a dead sci-fi TV show and I am so happy that it got made. Firefly itself was a brilliant show that suffered from scheduling problems and FOX not understanding it. Serenity carries on from Firefly but really adds to the mythos of the show and expands the universe. I have recommended this movie to quite a few friends who do not like sci-fi at all and found that they really enjoyed it. Do not be put off by the tag \"Cowboys in space\", many people hear this and think it sounds like a stupid idea (myself included). This may be the look of the show but once you get into it, you find that it really works. ...OK, ok. It's not STRICTLY a Call of Cthulhu product, but as there seems to be no particular home for independent games at this time on Ciao, this is the best home for it. Besides, it's inevitably going to appeal to most Cthulhu players anyway. Pokethulhu, The Adventure Game is the illegitimate offspring of The wacky world of Pokemon and the lurking horror of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. It's a world where children capture wild Pocket Monsters (Who just happen to bear passing resemblances to Cthulhu monsters) in their shining dodecahedrons of Power. Once captured of course it's time to train them, nurture them, then force them to battle each other until unconsciouness. Advantages: Excellent scripting and the new characters are interesting
Disadvantages: Another reinvention of the Vampire mythos

..., and most of the other characters introduced here, and I hope to see more of them in books to come. Anne Rice has an abundance of gifts when it comes to creating a wide-reaching world for her creations, and for that alone she deserves applause. My biggest beef with "Queen of the Damned" is the unfortunate fact that this is now the third "origin" of the vampires we've been subjected to, and Rice doesn't do herself any favors by reinventing her mythos in each of the first three novels in this "world". I am growing a bit weary of Lestat becoming more and more powerful with each successive book as well, and I wasn't too thrilled with the Akasha character having power and strengths far beyond anything remotely attached to the "vampire" mythos.
