...My friend got me into Nada Surf way back in 2000 and I have every album they have released. When I heard they had released a new album I rushed to the shops to by it and i was not dissapointed. Break down of 4 tracks off the album. Concrete Bed: Reminiscent of Let Go, Nada Surf have carried the sound of the previous album onto to this one and it is clear from, the cool guitar at the beginnig. There is a nice middle part where the guitar becomes heavier and has a high pitched country sounding guitar over it, veyr nice. Do it again: Starts with a nice bass riff and the guitar and vocals come in for a cool fresh sound. The lyrics make this song what it is and has you tapping your feet from beginning to end. You can also go and check their website: www.nadasurf.com So I'll just tell you my opinion about this band... *THE BAND: American trio: guitar, bass, drums; short, straight, efficient. All 3 musicians are very good, and as in most trios, the drums and bass are more present (not always following the guitar line). Advantages: Exemplary Power Pop

...Nada Surf have flirted with the fringes of popular music since their breakthrough single 'Popular'. With the release of their fourth album 'The Weight is a Gift' produced by Chris Walla (of Death Cab for Cutie) , Nada Surf push their music even further into the power pop genre and even add some soaring choruses for good measure. The album starts with 'Concrete Bed', a nice middle of the road melodic track that doesn't stand out particularly on its own but does introduce the theme of finding love, with an exceptional lyric 'To find someone you love, You've got to be someone you love' particularly effective and memorable. The track does pick up in tempo towards the 2 minute mark, and is a perfectly acceptable opening to the album. It’s not just their music but the experience of going to one of their gigs and the easy going attitudes they have with their fans. They always stay back in the bar after the gig to meet their fans and sign autographs, and even gave this lucky fan a free signed T-shirt (thanks Ira). ...I have been trying to get music by this band ever since seeing the video for Popular on MTV2 some years ago.The song was reminiscent of Weezer and was very catchy but no stores in Britain stocked anything by them. Then I started seeing good reviews for this album in alot of the magazines I read and it turned up on lots of "best of year" lists. I managed to download the album and was so impressed that I bought it . The story behind the release explains why it was impossible to get hold of their stuff for so long over here: After the success of Popular in America and its sister album High/Low the record company expected more of the same - instead Nada Surf delivered an album called The Proximinity Effect - the record company weren't pleased: there was no obvious single on the album - they wanted Popular/High/Low 2. ...I was lucky enough to be introduced to surfing at a very young age, living in the West Country where it’s easy to get to good quality, friendly surfing spots in reasonable time. I grew up on the North Devon coast; so playing in the water came naturally. At the age of 14 I was introduced to 'real' surfing, and haven't looked back since. Surfing, if you have the chance to do it is one of the best ways to keep fit and the feeling it gives you is just amazing, that you really need to try it for yourself. I would urge anyone just to give it a go, well worth it! As a really young kid I started surfing the waves on a bogie or belly board. This is a short foam board of about 4 foot long. ...My children and I went out to the local leisure centre today fully intending to go ice skating, unfortunately for them, I twisted my ankle on the way there (I have a weak ankle due to an accident a few years ago) and so skating was completely out of the question as children under 8yrs old must be accompanied by an adult on the rink. So to make it up to them both (who were extremely disappointed as they both love ice skating) we decided to go to the local cinema instead. There were a few films showing that were suitable, Harry Potter, The Simpsons, Bratz movie (son was not amused when I suggested this lol) and Surf's up. As we had already seen the Simpsons, and Harry Potter we opted for Surf's up by default. I am delighted to complete my hat-trick of joint opinions with Karen, and we carefully selected (!) surfing the Internet as our crème de la crème; actually it was the only one that we could think of that Karen knew less about than me :o( As most people on here can probably surf the Net to a competent level, we decided not even to attempt to make a techie opinion, but more a light-hearted look at the activities of enthusiastic amateurs like ourselves. ...Reef Surf School Learning to surf can be quite a daunting experience, so when we first decided to learn we chose to have lessons with one of Newquay's well know surf schools. Reef surf school has BSA approved instructors and the school is open 12 months of the year. They also have the reef surf hostel that you can stay at the lodge and have surf lessons for a special package deal such as £49. The hostel comprises of flat screen tvs and cd players to make you feel at home. The lodge has many facilities including a bar that has special events and DJ's and they serve good food.
