...Due to the new R&A rules on Drivers and the limits on the trampoline effect the face can have (COR) I was forced to get rid of my Taylor Made XR-03. After a little looking around and trying a few of my friends driver (Titleist and King Cobra mainly) I decided to give a ping G5 a try. Recently Ping brough out a newer / updated driver (the G10) priced at about £180 so I hoped the G5 would come down significantly but sadly not, they were still retailing for about £145 / £155, so I set about getting one from e-bay, where generally they retail at between £80 and £95 - much more reasonable. The 460cc titanium head is best described as round with a deep face (as opposed to the more elongated profile and shallower face of some newer drivers) and finshed in black with a white half moon (including a small black line in the middle) to assist... ...for a slightly off-centre strike that you ended-up having to be as accurate as a professional to master them. So the club pro suggested I forget the X-20's (which I didn't like anyway) and replaced my 3 and 4 irons with a hybrid. In the end I tried 3 different hybrid clubs, all of which are equivalent to a standard 4 iron, a Callaway steel shaft, a Cobra standard graphite shaft and the Ping G5 graphite shaft. All these clubs had a loft of 23/24 degrees. I was instantly impressed as my first few shots with each club sailed well past the 185 yard mark with little effort, but whats important with this type of club is that you can hit them high enough to be able to get them to land on the green and stop quickly, not hit the green and bounce right off. ...Ok, i'm not going to bore you with the science of golf irons, if a reveiwer started going on about the science you would be so confused that you wouldn't know which iron to get. ping irons are one of the best irons any golfer can buy, not only do ping custom fot you out that also provide you with the iron which is best for you. Go into any golf shop and you can buy a number of makes straight off the shelf, but what if you are 6 foot 5, or 5 foot 6? all the irons on the shelf are the same size and have the same degree of lie on the floor. Ping irons have 10 different degree of lie ranging from: gold to maroon 'dot', the dot on the golf club is spasific to how you hold the club, and how you place it on the floor. lets go back to the shelf iron. ...For a man of my limited ability playing the game with a handicap of 24, Ping clubs would be a luxury but wasted money in my case. I had never owned a rescue club or recovery club as these hybrids are more commonly known and my golf suffered whenever I found my ball in the semi rough or slightly off the fairway. No matter what club I used I could never get any distance out of the crap I was in. I did eventually discuss the rescue clubs, as I prefer to call the hybrids, with fellows golfers at my club and found their advice very helpful. The majority agreed that buying the Ping, Taylor made, Callaway and other famous well used brands of the professional golfers would be a waste of money and to search for more reasonably priced hybrids. ...I've had by Ping Anser 2 for may years now, probably 10 or even more, and have only just thought to write a review. The ping anser is a classic and now almost legendary putter. It a simple heal toe weighted putter with a slightly offset shaft (thanks to the small right angled 'S' shaped hostel. For alignment there is a single white line (about 5 mm thick). As the above hopefully shows the design is simple, yet it is much imitated (the Scotty Cameron 'Newport' is a copy of the anser). It has great balance and gives a very good true roll off the face. Another area where the Ping anser comes into its own is in terms of its custom options - there are a great variety of shaft lenghts from 32'' up to 37'' and also lies - from 4 degrees flat to 5 degress upright giving 10 variations, even the loft can be customied, as standard the face has 3... ...I own a Kirby G5 and i must say that it is a great machine.I never knew my house was so dirty!!!! When the salesman first demonstrated the machine to me i was sceptical to say the least and i thought big looks dont mean big performance. Then the true side of the kirby showed.I hoovered my carpet with my hoover and then with the kirby and had to check that i had turned my hoover on in the first place. I couldnt believe the dirt that came out of the carpet.The size of the G5 is big but it is suprised me at its lightness and handlebility. My wife is a asthmatic and we hovered the mattress and was encouraged that the bed mites were no longer there and she is able to get a decent nights sleep. ...I've been playing golf since I was about 12 and in the last 10 years I've worked my handicap down, so it fluctuates around the 7 mark. The vast majority of that time I played with some second hand Wilson Staff blades, which did the job fine. At least I thought they did, until I invested in these Ping irons. They are beautiful golf clubs, both to look at and strike the ball with. They are accurate, or as accurate as I can be, hit the ball a good distance and best of all they're forgiving. I don't need to hit that 3 Iron just right in order to hit it 200 yards, I know even a mishit won't be a disaster. That gives me real confidence. I know my dad has also played with them, and was so impressed that he swapped his Titleists for some Pings, and he's now loving them too. ...To begin with i used the modem which came with my computer, a 'soft' 56k modem, i found gaming online very frustrating. Every ten seconds or so i got packet loss and my ping was constantly above 300. I decided I'd go for the upgrade. I'd recently purchased a network card so, despite the extra cost, i went for the 56e instead of the 56i. I had a friend who got pings of around 130 on it so i thought mine would be about the same. It turns out that i got sub 100 pings, lower than anyone else who had the same modem as me. Even someone who lived a couple of streets away. This is a must have modem, especially with the software included. I advise any serious gamer, or anyone who does anything on the net to get this modem!... Read review
