Feature packed Pioneer
Review of Pioneer DEH-P 7500 MP by  eddierog

Advantages: Sound quality, 3 pre-outs, MP3 + WMA playback.
Disadvantages: Model now discontinued.

...is very good and stereo imaging excellent. High frequencies are good without being harsh from the factory fit tweeters, and mid range also good from the Ford speakers. Main features include 50w x 4 on head unit, MP3 and WMA playback from CD-R and -RW discs. CD text. 3 pre-outs inc a sub-out. 3 setting loudness control. IP bus control for external cd changer, tv tuner, DAB tuner. Sound focus EQ with independent bass / treble controls for front and rear channels. Organic EL Display with screensavers, background animations + Clock Display. This review is based upon the Pioneer DEH-P7500MP which is a discontinued model now. An equivalent Pioneer model now would be the DEH-P5900MP with prices from £135. You can also take a look at the current Alpine range with many similar models around £140. The top end of the XFX line
Review of XFX FORCE FX 5950 Ultra by  Soadfan1

Advantages: Great performance
Disadvantages: Heavy cost

...So I’ve tested out the 5600, I’ve tested out the 5700 Ultra, I’ve even tested out the 5900, but now its time to test the big boy, the top end XFX card, the 5950 Ultra! First off, although it’s considered to be way above the 5900 range of cards, it’s actually only slightly faster than the 5900 Ultra, which can actually easily be over clocked (manually increased speed) to the specifications of the 5900 ultra. It comes in another of those shiny, flashy X shaped boxes, with another cybernetic beast on the front, for the later cards the felines seem to have been replaced by canines, symbolising more raw power! For the most part this fits the 5950 Ultra perfectly; it’s a beast of a card with a whopping 256 MB of memory and a highly clockable core, the card is also fairly big and will need two pc slots to fit in on most machines. The most 'Bang for buck' card out there
Review of XFX GeForce FX 5900 by  Soadfan1

Advantages: Powerful and cheap!
Disadvantages: None really.

...After trying out both the XFX 5600 and XFX 5700 Ultra cards I was led to believe they were a very mixed bag. The 5600 underperformed in almost every area, whilst the 5700 Ultra performed well at almost every task handed to it, now though we come to the the 5900 and I'm going to tell you why this card is your best bet if money is in the equasion. First off theres the ease of install and support, as with all the XFX cards installing is a breeze and you can be up and running within minutes, not to mention the excellent driver and technical support Nvidia offer. The clock and memory speeds for this card are lower than the 5700 Ultra, but this does mean worse performance surprisingly, its all down to the 5900 having a newer chipset. The clock speeds are as follows Core clock speed(Mhz) 390-400 Memory clock(Mhz) 700-750 The main... Read review

Good things do come in small packages
Review of Biostar Mini-PC iDEQ 200T - no CPU by  waga

Advantages: very very quiet, small, portable, cool looking, easy to upgrade
Disadvantages: not many DIMM slots, not many PCI slots

...was the fact it was so easy to open up! It has thumbscrews instead of screws ont he case, so that facilitated easy upgrades. The only screw on it was on the PCI/AGP slots, which you could replace with thumbscrews i reckon. CPU temp for a 2.6Ghz Celery never goes above 26oC. Suitably impressed! Running 1 x 60gb + 1 x 120gb deskstar (one on IDE and one on SATA) with Geforce 5600xt, 2x256mb DDR 3200, 802.11g pci, (cant find a ti4600 anywhere) & pioneer 106 DVD drive. Please note you do not need a heatsink/fan as the unit comes with it's own custom one with heatpipes! A Very Very fast system and extremely quiet. Fan speed can be adjusted (it's temperature controlled too) making the pc virtually silent. Blue LEDs are included and was impressed by that! Not quite enough room for a full sized cold cathode tube so I went for a 4 incher. You... Read review

Nikon COOLPIX 5900
Review of Nikon COOLPIX 5900 by  strongbow1980

Advantages: Simple to use, large 2-inch LCD screen, built in help, compact
Disadvantages: Requires 2xAA batteries and very small built in memory

...I got the Nixon Coolpix 5900 last summer, and so glad that I did as it made my summer! I was going to get the lower model the Nixon 5600, but I did not much fancy having to replace the 2xAA batteries every five minutes, so I spend a little bit more money and went for the 5900 that had the charger included, the other difference, is that there is a strip which goes round the camera seam, where the front and back casing joins, and on the 5600 this is plastic but on the 5900 it is metal, and I thought this would make the camera more sturdy if it were to be dropped. The Nixon Coolpix 5900 has a lovely large 2-inch LCD which is really good size screen for such a small camera. It includes lots of scene modes for example: Party/Indoor Sunsets Fireworks display, which gives longer exposure to the photo to catch the detail of the fireworks Night... Read review

Brilliant digital camera!!!
Review of Nikon COOLPIX 5900 by  gg724

Advantages: Excellent value-for-money, Fantastic image quality
Disadvantages: Screen slightly mis-aligned, little low-battery advance warning.

...I initially chose the Nikon Coolpix 5900 beacuse at the time it was mid-price range, and seemed to have all the features I needed for a good price. I was not disappointed and have enjoyed using the camera since I got it 18 months ago. It still works perfectly, expect one problem - the screen gradually becomes misaligned. This isn't noticeable when taking photos, only when viewing them, but I do not think this is a major problem and the camera is still functional desite the mis-alignment. The in-built memory is small, but I do not think this is a problem due to the ease of inserting memory cards. The battery lasts a long time, but a slight disadavntage is that it gives you little warning when it is getting low, a problem when you are away from anywhere where you can charge it. In general I find this camera very user... Read review

The ultimate Graphics card, Within Reason
Review of PNY Verto GeForce 6 6600 GT AGP 8X by  Mustang2K

Advantages: Very, Very fast, Stunning Graphics, Very Reasonable in Price
Disadvantages: Can be heard when playing a game with no sound, can get quite hot

...I had ordered a copy of battlefield 2 for my PC and at the time was running a geforce 4 mx440, and I knew this combination would be absolutely useless even if it did get the game to run, so I went in search for a graphics card, which would play brand new thirsty games for a few years to come and that is compatible with my AGP socket. I looked atround at the different brands available, ATI and Nvidia, and strook of ATI quite quickly as I didn't know much about their model numbers. I then looked through the Nvidia range which was quite a lot of fun. I initially was going to opt for a geforce 5500 but i discovered this was a very low end card and would only marginally beat my exisitng card. I then upped the anti so to speak and looked at the geforce 5900 range. This looked promising with some good write ups, and the one i settled... Read review

The Janus Iago wishes he were
Review of MSI FX5900-VTD128 by  chris_ah1

Advantages: cheap, can be modded, reliable, easy to install, quiet,
Disadvantages: old, none, still needs extra power connector, bulky cooling, only great performance once modded

...steady and true. Performance: Performance was again perfect for this card and inline with every expectations I had of it. It soundly beats an ATI 9600XT and the 5700ultra (stock) as expected. It clearly rules the roost in the mainstream middle enthusiast section of the market, whilst never threatening the 'big boys' such as the ATI 9800xt and 5950ultra. It does thorougly beat ATI's 9800se which was a direct response to the 5900LX/XT too. So, at it's current price the card is certainly pulling it's weight in terms of performance, and exceeds expectations compared to the similarly priced 9600XTs. However, when modded to the speeds of a 5950 ultra, this card performed within 4% consistently of it's £300 counterpart. This is where the performance excels becuase you get an expensive card's performance for much much less without sacrificing... Read review

X Marks the Spot
Review of XFX GeForce FX 5700 Ultra by  poozle

Advantages: Very Fast for price
Disadvantages: Now surpased by the 5900XT

...As you can see from the image the box this product comes in is shaped like an X. I have yet to work out the reason for this but it sure does make an impact when you see it. If you have not heard of XFX they are a ocmponent manufacturer that work with AMD and Nvidia to create motherboards and graphics cards. Obviously this is one of their graphics cards and in future, I will definately look out for their name when searching for hardware. Now, onto the performance, if you know about Nvidia graphics cards then you will know that this is one of 3 of their mid range graphics cards, the 5600(Ultra), 5700(Ultra) and the 5900XT. Of these the 5700 Ultra is at the higher end of the midrange, although not as powerful as a 5900XT, although that will set you back an extra £30 or so. I actually used this in a system I built for a friend and he... Read review

Cheap as chips...
Review of Matsui DTR 1 by  jayandfoo

Advantages: Small, compact
Disadvantages: Reception is like a lottery

...Bought thislast summer for £59.00. It was the cheapest on the market at the time, and as we wern't too sure on what Freeview was all about, we decided upon this one. Plus, the silver colour went with our TV, video and DVD player. It was easy to set up and the remote even came with batteries! The small sleek size meant that it fit amongst my other items easily. However, we are constantly having to re-install the channels. They are always breaking up, especially Channel Five and ABC1. My mother in law also has this one and it does the same...seems to be a standard thing. It would be perfect if it didn't keep freezing whilst watching re-runs of 'Ellen' and my weekly dose of Home and Away. I think I'll save up for a better one!... Read review
