Historical Spain
Review of Salamanca (Spain) by
reh106
Advantages: Beautiful surroundings, breathtaking architecture, good shops
Disadvantages: Sometimes hard to find accomodation, veggie food is hard to find, can be packed full of tourists in high season
...dictates that if you manage to spot it unaided, it will bring you fortune and good luck for a year. The city is full of hidden delights, and meandering through its street brings many delightful surprises. If after all this, you fancy a bit of shopping, bars, or clubs, then it’s best to head to the north east side of the city, where the present century rules. However, there are many quaint bars in the old part of the city, the Plaza Mayor contains many of these, although be prepared to pay for the majestic surroundings.
If you go during high season, it’s possibly best to book a room in advance. This warning also includes the Easter period, Salamanca is famous in Spain for it’s Easter celebrations – which go on for some two weeks – and the city becomes packed at this time....

Barcelona - worth a visit
Review of Barcelona (Spain) by
easty15
Advantages: plenty
Disadvantages: a few
...I am a spanish speaker and often visit Spain, however mainly to Madrid. This time I thought that I would visit Barcelona, since people alwasy seem to rave and rave about how amazing it is. I will try and summarise the place in several key factors:
Transport: Generally pretty good - tube is clean, easy, bit hot occasionally which is the last thing you need in the Spain heat! bus service from the airport to the centre of town is easy and very cheap (about 2 euros).
Accomodation: Depends obviously on your budget, but the top hotel 'The Carlton' is very nice and well located, otherwise middle range hotels are pletniful and there are also some very reasonable 'low budget hotel's (for about 20 euros a night) right in the centre and on the main plazas.
Attractions: The 'Sagrada Familia' which is a gastronomic cathedral being finished...

Barcelona es guapa
Review of Barcelona in general by
nicolavidal
Advantages: great cultural diversity and cosmopolitan
Disadvantages: none
...The first thing that a visitor should do when visiting this marvelous city is forget all the preconceptions that they have about Spain - Barcelona is another world!
As you might know Barcelona is situated in Catalunya (Spain is divided in many regions and Catalunya is one of them). Each region has their own cultural background, customs, traditions and some speak other languages. Catalunya is very different from the rest of the regions in Spain and Barcelona is its capital.
If you went to Barcelona and were expecting to see some bullfighting or flamenco dancing, you are in the wrong place!! Barcelona is a city well known for its cultural diversity and for being very cosmopolitan.
I am not going to give you an extensive description of areas to visit, just some guidelines, I believe the best way of discovering a city is by getting a map...

spains good fortune
Review of Spain vs Italy by
gunnerdav14
Advantages: excellent game of football
Disadvantages: could of been better
...I found this game an enthralling prospect, both spain and italy where at the top of there game before coming to the ernst staduim in a hot vienna evening. I was looking forward to an absoultly amazing game of football between two passianate and colourful nations.
But what we got was a cat and mouse kind of game, both teams being very careful in there play, spain had the better of the ninty minutes, they played with flair with there hearts, italy were quite frankly negative in there play, quite defensive tactics, after the ninty minutes spain deserved to win, they created more chances and looked more comftable on the ball, even so you can nether write the italians off, So it came down to extra time, and still no chances, so we had an agonisong penalty shootout, and italy missed two penalties and up stepped cecs fabregas to slot home...

a few good players
Review of Spain by
steveymacca
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...the spanish do have a few good players who are very creative when playing at their best, such as raul, luis enriquue, hierro, guardiola and sergi. their keeper, vitor baia is getting on a bit now and they may want to start looking for a replacement. but he seems to be a safe bet in between the sticks at the moment as he has a lot of experience behind him and knows what to do in threatening moments such as one on ones with strikers and wheter to come or stay etc. spain deffently are a team to watch as they have quite a few young players....

Harry Shaw City Break to Pineda del Mare Spain
Review of Harry Shaw City Cruiser by
NorfolkJohnny
Advantages: Easy to book- delivered what it said on the tin!!
Disadvantages: Cost of airport transfers- cheaper to hire a car!
...Just to balance the "Unfortunates" above , and to encourage others to consider HS Holidays.
We went on a £199.95 all inclusive holiday to Hotel Miramare in Pineda, Costa del Maresme from 5/10 to 9/10/07. Quiet, clean resort with super sandy beaches - but steeply shelving
.
Had great time - good value - food what was expected! - even managed a swim in both sea & pool- despite it was the last week before the Hotel closed for the winter
Only gripe - it was cheaper to hire a car ( off internet from Gerona airport ) for the duration, than to pay 2 coach transfers, which was clearly a possible "hidden" moneymaker for Harry Shaw!!.
Super seafront train direct to Plaza Catalynia -right in centre of Barcelona ( 1 hr) - so good went twice!!...

Review of Lonely Planet Spain - Lonely Planet by
lysfong
Advantages: very in depth & informative
Disadvantages: bit bulky to carry (i'm a weakling!)
...Revised review:
Although my edition of the Lonely Planet is already 3 years old, it is still just as helpful and useful and more or less up to date, to the extent that I was able to use it for my last trip to Spain only a couple of months ago. I bought my guide for around £15.99, which I know is a bit steep - I even found it hard to part with the dosh when I bought it - but 3 years worth of constant usage proves that it is well worth the price, even for the fact that Lonely Planet regularly update their guides.
The only significant thing that is not up to date with my edition is the fact that it was still in pesetas but of course, that it was out of the publisher's control. Although the prices of things in my edition is more difficult to calculate due to this, it was still more or less spot on, even for my last trip.
The details...

Quarters onwards
Review of Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland: Which country do you think will win and why. by
shanediablo
Advantages: Football
Disadvantages: No England
...QUARTER FINAL STAGE
----------------------------------
So here we are at the business end of the tournament and where, we are led to believe, the teams with the stronger mental strength will shine through and prove their worth to lift the trophy.
The Quarter Matches are as follows:
MATCH 1 - Portugal v Germany
MATCH 2 - Croatia v Turkey
MATCH 3 - Holland v Russia
MATCH 4 - Spain v Italy
In the semi finals, the winner of match 1 will play the winner of match 2 and likewise, the winner of match 3 will play the winner of match 4. The winners of these matches will contest the Euro 2008 final.
PORTUGAL V GERMANY
----------------------------------
Biggest match of the tournament so far involving the pre-tournament favourites Germany and England's tormentors, Portugal.
Where I see the key difference is this tie occuring is in terms...

Villa shines through the rain
Review of Spain vs Russia by
petery36
Advantages: Villa hat-rick, both teams scored
Disadvantages: None
...I said the Holland V Italy game was the best, but know i may be changing my mind. This game was surrounded by much hype as people asked themselves could this Spain squad finally live up to the expectations that others hadn't. The answer was a definite YES.
Casillas was captain for Spain in this game. Villa did however stand out in this game which took place under the terrible weather in the Tivoli Neu stadium, Austria.
There were some surprises before the game even started, Fabregas wasn't starting for Spain, nor was Xabi Alonso. This meant that there was a midfield which had no Premiership players in, there team was still a very strong one. PS. First game where both teams have scored.
The game didn't have a very fast start. Russia's Shemshov had the first chance of the game, he did however put ball a long way wide. His shot was from...
