Antec 550W server class psu
Review of Antec TruePower 550 EPS12V - power supply - 550 Watt by
positivereflect
Advantages: Compatible with newer 24pin motherboards and EPS12v Server boards, High wattage, Silent fan operation
Disadvantages: Needs adapter to use with 20pin motherboards,
...Upon upgrading my computer to an athlon MP system, i thought it would be a good idea to change my power supply for something a bit more powerful.
When i looked up the specifications for this power supply at antec`s website, there was nothing i could fault.
Looking into it further, i found that i would need a 24pin to 20pin adapter to use this on my motherboard.
The handy thing is that although this isnt an ATX2.0 power supply, the 24pin pinout for the EPS12v ATX connector is 100% identical to the ATX2.0 24pin pinout. Another reason why i decided on this powersupply (so when i upgrade to dual opterons - this powersupply will be ample and will already provide the correct connectors).
You can always tell the quality of a power supply by its weight, and these ones are heavy!
Comparing it to my old Q-tec 400w power supply you would think...

Very poor service when things go wrong.
Review of Bestpricedbrands.co.uk by
UnsatisfiedCustomer99
Advantages: None.
Disadvantages: No customer support. Ignore emails. You're taking a chance!
...I purchased a DS Lite for my son, which took a couple of weeks to arrive. The packaging declared the item to be a low value "game", so again, if opened by customs I would have been presented with a large import tax bill.
Unfortunately, the power supply failed to work. I managed to get through (eventually) to arrange it's replacement. A Fed-Ex van arrived to take the power supply back, but even after a month, I have heard nothing. I have emailed them several times, but to no avail. This item would have been useless if I hadn't gone out and bought a replacement power supply myself.
This company is a disgrace; I would never use them again. Internet companies are only as good as the support and availability. Best Priced Brands - NONE!...

You don't get any better than this
Review of Corsair HX620W - power supply - 620 Watt by
ClockworkUniverse42
Advantages: Stable, cool and quiet, modular cabling, overall quality, more powerful than official rating
Disadvantages: cables a little stiff
...First off, I'm amazed that I am the first to review theis product. It's one of the best PSUs on the market. Corsair are well known for their excellent RAM, but their forray into the realm of power supplies has been immensly successful; the HX620W is consistently rated as one of the best enthusiast models on sale.
Corsair markets the 620's modular design, industrial-grade capacitors and quiet running, as well as its capability for supporting SLI. These are indeed excelent features; the supplied cables and their modular system makes keeping your case clutter-free amazingly easy, and installation in general is just far too simple to be true! The PSU also runs very cool, and very quiet as well - the 120mm fan keeps the unit at a reasonable temperature, while making absolutely no sound.
Those 'industrial-grade' capacitors aren't just...

You get what you pay for
Review of Seasonic S12-500 - power supply - 500 Watt by
DAkuma
Advantages: Rock solid, with plenty of output cables
Disadvantages: None that I noticed
...I have done a lot of research into power supplies while building a PC from scratch. I have discovered that there are certain things you need to look for, such as 2 fans: 1 at the rear, to exhaust hot air, and a large (the larger the better) fan on the inside, to drag that hot air from your case more easily. I have also found that you should avoid fanless ones at all costs... Not only do they pose a reliability problem, they also do nothing to aid in getting heat (the emeny of computers) out of your case. You may have a case which has lots of air vents, but you can also use more, and this powerpack has very low noise fans. Also, since heat rises (and the majority of of power supplies are located at the top of the case) then exhausting the hot air is even more crucial. Another reason to avoid fanless PSU's: In some cases they have been...

A modders dream!!!
Review of Hiper Type-R HPU-4B580 - power supply - 580 Watt by
Dave1508
Advantages: Modular design, LED fans for case modding
Disadvantages: Thin aluminium plate can distort
...This was my first Modular designed power supply, and what a corker it is.
The first thing to note is the toolbox designed carry case, which houses the power supply and each type of cable in seperated compartments. Handy for the system builder to reuse as a storage box for all the smaller parts of a computer.
Out of the box, the PS stand s out in its anodised colours (Blue in my case, with a mirror finish, on 3 sides and airated pressed ali on the others, for good air flow. Speaking of which integrated in the machine are 1x120mm fan, and an 80mm fan LED lit to provide an extra element when installed.
My only gripe at this point is that the case can easily distort in a tight case, pushing the rear 80 mm fan onto the outer casing of the 120mm fan producing a hell of a din. Not a problem where the power supply is held firmly in place...
