...I've just watched Rain Man again on TV! I have it on video and have seen it 4 or 5 times but it's one of those rare films which remains watchable even after seeing it so many times. It stars Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman as the Babbit brothers. Tom Cruise is young, hard-nosed upstart Charlie Babbit whose father dies and leaves him only with a car and the garden roses! The rest of his estate is left in trust for a mystery beneficiary. Cruise finds out who this is and goes to track him down. He ends up finding Raymond (Dustin Hoffman)in a special home - an autistic with a mathematical gift who turn out to be his long-forgotten older brother. It transpires that Raymond is the "Rain Man" Cruise used to refer to when he was a young boy. The film follows Cruise's attempts to get to know his brother with the idea of claiming his rightful... ...Rain Man tells the story of two brothers; the younger played by Tom Cruise is a volatile pushy person, who imports high performance Italian sports cars as a living. The elder brother played by Dustin Hoffman is autistic he has spent the main part of his life in institutions. When the brother's father dies, uncanny enough it's Hoffman who inherits his father's vast wealth. Cruise is outraged by this, and takes his autistic brother on a car journey across America. He has ulterior motives though and that is to woo his brother into sharing the money out equally. But during the trip Cruise discovers a different side to his brother, he has astonishing wit and wisdom and what's more he has almost miraculous powers. Rain Man try's to delve into the live of an autistic person, but the film is somewhat overlong and it seems tentative about... Read review

...Travis's The Man Who is an excellent CD. A band that came seemingly from nowhere to stardom in a short period of time relelased what must have been one of the best CD's / Albums of the 90's I must admit to being rather boring in that my three favourite tracks were all released as singles but perhaps this also means that they chose well. Writing to Reach You is excellent as is Driftwood but without doubt my favourite track on the CD was the amazing "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" , a truly stunning single. When the waitor arrives he orders chicken from the menu. He has one bite, and then throws one of the small bones out of the window. He then races out of his seat and rushes out the window. He dies! ...Travis are one of the best bands around, the album ‘The man Who’ is just brilliant and if you like their previously released singles from the album, you won’t regret buying it. They are head and shoulders above ‘Westlife’ in my opinion. They are Scotland’s very own pop icons. They have had massive success with singles like ‘Driftwood and ‘Writing to Reach you’ and who could forget the excellent song ‘Why does it always rain on me’ a brilliant song’’. Since it rains in Britain so much when ever you go to a live gig they always sing it, whilst being drenched by rain. ...This is a piece I wrote a while ago, based on a dream I had whilst delirious through a Flu bug. it's strangely calm, for all that. The rain Bird The Rain Bird sits in the old horse-chestnut tree unmoving except for his all seeing eye which glints and shines as it swivels abruptly in it's glossy black socket. His sleek feathers lie smoothly against his plump black body. Down below him he observes people going aimlessly about their leisure activities. On the village green is a near motionless, white flanneled pageant of Cricket. Nearby, in a well manicured garden is a tall, thin elderly man who dreams of his army days as he marches up and down his parade-ground lawn pushing the regimental mower, (stripes for the creation of), up and down, until the surface resembles the billiards table in the officer...
