Reviews of recumbent
Gateway to Prehistory
Review of Aberdeen (Scotland) by
Aspen
Advantages: Accessible pre-history
Disadvantages: Debatable origins
...Aberdeenshire has a unique place in pre-history. Only here will you find the recumbent stone circle. Sadly, many have been destroyed as man developed his agricultural traits. But a good number remain, and are well worth a visit.
Dating back to 3000 years BC or beyond, these circles seem to be a fusion of ideas from eastern Ireland, where passage graves had a recumbent stone marking the entrance, and the area around Inverness, where circles of similar diameter abound, but without the recumbent stone.
Only here in the north east of Scotland is this particular type of construction found, with the recumbent stone in the south west, and a "flanker", or large vertical stone, on either side. The remaining stones in the ring then decrease in size, reaching the smallest on the north east side.
These circles are generally found...

Lasting Reams
Review of Fiction by
Coquin
Advantages: I write occult fiction
Disadvantages: not for the feint of heart ;)
..., we open the door and there is not a sound from within. We make our way through the kitchen, cluttered with crockery and utensils piled high in the sink and on entering the lounge, stepping over the bodies lying recumbent in their tight and cosy cocoons, I try to imagine the face of each individual as I step over them in wait for Jamie to reach the window and open the curtains to let the blinding sunlight flood the room. He turns to me with a smile as wicked as incest and with one relaxed swipe, draws the long velvet drape open. Moans and grumbles of discontent at such a rude awakening spoiled the tranquillity which hovered its peace over the sleeping few. The place smelled like a chemical factory with spillage and at a quick glance, I see the fullness of the night before.
“Been a party, it ais wild man!” empty pipes and dog end butts...

I'm not a floater
Review of Everything that starts with F ... by
kazziebears
Advantages: Supposed to be relaxing
Disadvantages: No good if you are claustrophobic
...comfortable lying there recumbent. I don’t rest easily on my back, preferring the ‘foetal’ sleeping pose at bedtime, and it aint so easy to lay on your side curled up in 10” or so of warm water, floating agent or no floating agent!
There was a small inflatable pillow there for resting your head on but I couldn’t cope with that either, I don’t like water in my ears (I know, what a woos!!)
I did try honest but at one point my head slipped as I tried to readjust it, my mouth hit the water, and that’s how I came to sample it…….yeeee gods!!!!!! What is that stuff..bluh!! I can taste it even now! NOT to be recommended!
As I struggled to sit up I slipped again! The water shot up the walls of the tank and I thought, “How unrelaxing is this!!!”
To be truthful I guess I...

Lazily We Creak
Review of Poetry by
codebluebelle
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...Lazily we creak
Eyes open but asleep,
Or with one eye on a book
And the other out the window.
Watching time and time watching us.
All summer we slumber.
For thousands of winks we’ve dozed,
When we’ve locked out those knocking
On our doors and closed.
Come autumn we rise
And wipe the dust and sunshine from our eyes.
Babylonian we crane once more
To be the highest, biggest, best.
In winter one solitary rest
Precedes the clamber upwards to the light.
And from there we look down,
Owning almost all we see,
And choose paths.
We laugh at the humble, lowly stream;
Meandering it has no time to dream.
And so spring comes and we conspire
To build more bridges
(All the better to knock them down).
Before long we jolt into summer
And in the oozing hours drown.
And in state of recumbence we inspire
The poet, politician...

FOR THOSE WHO DESERVE THE LITTLE LUXURIES IN LIFE
Review of Conrad, Bangkok by
purdy
Advantages: The amazing and phenomenal luxury and service
Disadvantages: Not living there
...– which aint much good for any sun kings or queens! The area was surrounded with palms and exotic plants – which an arm of gardeners were constantly watering and tending too. It was a perfect oasis – great for recovering from hangovers at!
I did use the fitness suite (just the once though!). Again highly tended by staff, who ensured you were hooked up and using the equipment correctly. Each cardio piece (cross trainers, recumbent cycles, treadmills etc) all had individual TV monitors so you could watch a movie, a lifestyle piece or take in the news whilst you slogged away. There was a fitness mat for yoga or the ball and weight training equipment. There was even a fridge filled with bottled water for you to enjoy before during and after your work out.
We ate only at the Chinese restaurant in the hotel –...

Here today, Gone Tomorrow
Review of Present, The - Moody Blues (The) by
Newfloridian
Advantages: It’s the Moody Blues. It completes the collection.
Disadvantages: Nothing to write home about
...of his vocal style with soaring harmonies but somehow misses being ‘from his top drawer’.
8. Running Water ***
Another slow song from Justin. Again there are hints and touches of his song writing capabilities – the soaring vocals and the muted string accompaniment. However, again it just does not quite ‘gel’ into being a classic.
9. I Am **
A flute and chiming bells introduction gives this song an initial Celtic flavour which later changes to an eastern mystical feel. The tracks leads into …
10. Sorry **
This is another up tempo middle of the road song from Ray Thomas.
The CD insert is a facsimilie of the old vinyl LP sleeve. The words of the songs are reproduced. The paintings of the cover show a young boy giving a small token to a recumbent young girl (perhaps on the steps of Mount Olympus). There is also a space ship...

Coolaskaha's challenge - KneeDown
Review of Everything that starts with C ... by
KneeDown
Advantages: Enjoyed trying a challenge
Disadvantages: Bit out of date !
...beat watching the footy in the traditional recumbent position with Stella and associate deep fried rare mammal snacks of a Saturday night
30. Shoes or Bare Feet?
I like bare feet – although with a 16 year old dog and cat this does have it’s interesting dangerous element at times in the mornings
There you go – my first attempt at doing a challenge and I think I kept it quite sensible to be honest ! Sorry it took me so long to get round to doing it though............

Qigong- Traditional Breath Energy Exercises
Review of Qi Gong by
barefoot777
Advantages: interesting and exotic
Disadvantages: not easy as it look
...if descriptions cause your mind to wander. Count the one to ten counts several times in succession.
- Direct your attention to a point about 5 cm, below the navel, allowing it to hover there without overmeasuring your mind. Begin again if your mind wanders.
3] The Internal Training Exercise
These are suitable for individuals suffering from duodenal ulcers, hepatitis, constipation and ptosis of the stomach. Stress is laid on breathing:
Body positions:
A] Normal sitting position
B] Supine position

Nyctaphobia - Part 1
Review of Everything that starts with N ... by
baalzamon
Advantages: It's the earliest work of a future bestseller (sha! right!)
Disadvantages: it's rather long...
...become an almost inaudible babble. It did not take much encouragement on my part to hush him, and let his already heavy eyelids droop shut, so I left him to sleep off his drunkenness with a blanket over him and a pillow under his head. Thinking it wisest not to drive home after my large whisky, I made the bed in the spare room and tried to sleep, which was not easy after the bizarre events of the evening, yet markedly easier than in all the days since.
I awoke early the next morning, some time around 5:30, and went downstairs to find the first rays of sunlight slanting through the open windows onto Boeward’s still recumbent form. I determined to leave him sleeping, and turned to go out and into the kitchen where to prepare some breakfast, but Boeward, ever the light sleeper, was roused by my movement. He was still a little groggy and...

Sue Magee, I Defy You
Review of Poetry by
Schmutzie
Advantages: I hope it may give you a smile.
Disadvantages: Sue's going to have me put away.
...This drivel is for Sue Magee.
I thought she was friendly to me.
But she threatened ( no laffs)
If I wrote about daffs
That she’d have me sectioned. We’ll see !
*****
Daffodils, by Wordsworth (the hitherto unpublished first draft).
I wandered lonely as a cloud
As people do when they’re on pills,
When all at once I saw this guy
Recumbent in the daffodils.
His hair was floating in the breeze.
A plastic mac lay on his knees.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
He mauled himself, the dirty swine,
And probably had done all day.
I saw the lot in just one glance,
Although I tried to look askance.
The daffodils around him danced,
But he outdid the daffs in glee.
The pervert could not but feel gay
In such a jocund company.
I stared and stared, but little thought
What fantasies for me...
