Who said 5 a day had to be boring
Review of Recipes for Side Dishes by  tattie123

Advantages: Colourful, health fresh food
Disadvantages: Not good with gravy!

...roasting tray You will also need to preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Put all of the prepared veg into the roasting tray along with the sprigs of rosemary. Liberally drizzle the oil over the veg and season well with the freshly ground salt and pepper. Give the raosting dish a good shake so that all of the veg is coated in the oil. Place in the oven for 45 minutes. Halfway through give everything a stir so that all of the veg cooks evenly. Serve with couscous and any grill meat or fish The resulting roast veg is really colourful and tasty and is a great accompaniment to any dish. It makes a real nice change to your everyday steamed veg or roast spuds. Try not to eat the garlic skin or rosemary as these are purely for flavour. However you can eat the garlic as this will just pop out of the skin and be really sweet and juicy. You can also... Read review

Sainsbury’s Are Good To Me
Review of Sainsbury’s Be Good To Yourself Tomato and Basil Chicken with Roasted Baby Potatoes by  ray52

Advantages: Plenty of Chicken. Tasty Roast Potatoes. Great Sauce.
Disadvantages: None for me

...As I am trying to keep on a healthy eating option, I recently bought Sainsbury’s Be Good To Yourself – Tomato and Basil Chicken with Roasted Baby Potatoes. I found this meal for one person in the chilled section of my local Sainsbury’s store. It weighs 450 grams and costs £2.99 GBP (normal price), but at the time of writing this review, Sainsbury’s are selling two of this type of meal with £1.00 GBP off two. **Packaging** As with some of the other meals I have written about, Sainsbury’s Be Good To Yourself – Tomato and Basil Chicken with Roasted Baby Potatoes comes in a plastic tray covered with a clear plastic film. All this comes in an outer cardboard sleeve. I find the way the meal is presented is ideal, as I looked inside the inner tray by sliding it from the outer sleeve, enabling me to look at the food before buying... Read review

the perfect roast potatoe
Review of Recipes for Main Courses by  foxy19

Advantages: taste lovely
Disadvantages: are probably very fattening and no good for you

...given that a sunday dinner is all i can cook and well i decided to share the wisdom given to me by my father in cooking the perfect roast spud unlesss of course you are on a diet or trying to watch your figure then these probably arent for you at all. 1)obviously peel your spuds and chop into size suitable for eating i usually cut into quarters unless they are small then only half 2)preboil the spuds until they are halfway boiled you know just before they go to mash.i tend to do it for about 20 mins on a medium heat. 3)next i transfer the spuds that have been drained of their water and chuck them in the tray with my meat give them a good dosing of sunflower oil just enough to layer the bottom of the tray as this tends to stop them sticking. 4)place them into the oven on gas mark 5 for at least an hour this will get them crispy... Ready to slice roast.
Review of New Quorn chicken-style flavour roast by  vicko

Advantages: low fat, vegetarian
Disadvantages: the gravy/sauce

...Quorn is a part of Marlow Foods Ltd and they manufacture meat free foods. Quorn itself is described as being made from a mushroom protein called mycoprotein (myco being the Latin word or Protein and the Greek word for Fungi). It normally tells you what percentage of mycoprotein is in the meal you buy. It does state on the box though that the quorn range contains egg, wheat and milk so it perhaps won't be suitable for some people such as vegan. It is approved by the vegetarian society and is GM free. The chicken-style flavour roast is part of the freezer foods range and comes frozen. The pack is 454g and cost £2.99 from tesco and £2.78 from asda. It comes wrapped in a film and sits on a plastic tray inside the box. The instructions on the box are stick it in the oven at Gas Mark 7 (200ºC/425ºF) for 45-50 minutes but leave... Read review

Top of the Range
Review of Rangemaster Classic 110 by  sadoldbag

Advantages: Two ovens, controllable heat, brilliant gadgets
Disadvantages: hardly any but grill not being eye level can be a pain occasionally

...for a coffee percolator, which I've never used so can't comment. The two ovens give great space for most everyday cooking - if you have never had 2 ovens before then you'll love it - just being able say to cook the roast beef and apple pie at one temperature and the roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding at another makes life so much easier and improves the food. One oven comes with a great little device which hangs off the door and comes with an oven tray which fits it so you can roast a joint and when you open the door the meat is there staring at you ready to baste - so much quicker and safer than having to perilously open the oven door and pull out a very hot shelf, balance the roasting tray on the top, baste then put it back. The left hand side has a grill - fine - and the right hand side has a tray for storage. It also comes with a brilliant... Read review

That delicious bird in the BBQ dress
Review of Asda Roast Chicken by  donf18

Advantages: Good value, tasty
Disadvantages: none at 2 for a fiver are you kidding

...already prepared and lined in regimental fashion on a large silver tray. They looked well cooked an very inviting and as I have already indicated the aroma of all the Chickens intermingled could not have been more special. So for my fiver I was off home with a Plain Roast Chicken and a BBQ roast Chicken an excellent deal which would be validated very shortly after arrival at home. The BBQ one had had me on tenterhooks since I had first spied it calling on me in that silver tray. I ravished the sealed bag which was protecting and helping to keep warm the juicy bird. I was starving by this time and cut a few large slices from the breast of the decent sized bird. It cut beautifully and was moist. The chicken was delicious and the BBQ flavouring was a treat being both spicy and sweet and ever so sticky…………….perfect. If I had purchased... Read review

Because the ladies love em.
Review of Cadbury Milk Tray by  kellyv43

Advantages: Taste great, Great gift idea.
Disadvantages: Full of calories, Dont last long

...contains 2 layers of milk chocolates in plastic trays. (I wonder if this has anything to do with there name?) Each tray contains 12 different delicious chocolates. The ingredients of each can be found on the back of the box. It does state that each chocolate may contain traces of nuts, so if you suffer from nut allergies you should avoid eating them. The box contains a sheet telling you about each of the chocolates it contains. STRAWBERRY KISS - 'strawberry filling with vanilla flavour fondant creme' These are nice. The strawberry flavour is quite strong. CARAMEL CARESS - 'Roasted hazelnut wrapped in soft caramel' These are very nice, be careful if giving them to children as the hazelnut is quite big and hard. PRALINE PARFAIT - 'Smooth praline blended from roast hazelnuts and almonds.' Mmmm this is one of my favourites, I love the almondy... Read review

Festive Spuds!
Review of Recipes for Side Dishes by  Lynz0901

Advantages: Easy to prepare, exciting tastes, something different
Disadvantages: May not be to everyone's taste

...a roasting tray on the hob over a moderate heat. Add the goose fat and the garlic, orange peel and sage, and fry in the goose fat for 30 seconds. Add the spuds and toss them around until well coated with the goose fat mixture, then roast in the oven for around 45 minutes or until golden and crisp. Then serve with your turkey and enjoy!!! These spuds are really different and will definetly change your roast potaotes forever! The only thing I would say about this recipe is to only add the amount of orange peel recommended even though it does not look enough as the flavour will go a long way and too much could be overpowering. Then again it is all down to taste and preference so why not experiment?! If you do not fancy the idea of orange and sage, you can also try rosemary, pancetta, red onion and balsamic vinegar. Whatever takes your fancy!... Read review

Silence of the lambs
Review of Recipes for Main Courses by  LBoy

Advantages: Food
Disadvantages: Fart

...Unlike Dr. Hannibal Lecter, I eat the normal red meat, and lamb is my favourite. As this is the year of the ram, so I thought I might just share one of my lamb recipes with my fellow Ciaoers. Oh, if you are a vegetarian, please don’t go away; just use Quorn fillets instead of lamb chops, or just skip the meaty bit! The following recipe would serve two people. Lamb chops with roast vegetables 4 lamb chops 2 aubergines 2 green peppers 2 large tomatoes 4 cloves of garlic Olive oil Honey Cooking oil Salt and pepper Wash and prepare the aubergines, peppers and tomatoes, and cut them in half. Season the cut-sides with salt and pepper. Put a sheet of kitchen foil on a baking tray, pour one tablespoon of olive oil evenly onto the foil. Lay the vegetable pieces with skin-side up on the tray. Pour further two tablespoons of olive oil over... Read review

Roast potatoes for couch potatoes
Review of Marks & Spencer Roast Potatoes by  Judgee

Advantages: No peeling involved
Disadvantages: There are better and cheaper frozen potaoes around

.... Purchasing any three products from their range of vegetable/potato dishes will give you a saving of one pound off the overall combined price. The packaging is pretty standard for Marks and Spencer, with a nice picture of the product on the cover. The picture made my mouth water as they look delicious. Golden brown, fluffy and crunchy and roughly the size of golf balls. Unfortunately they didn't quite turn out that way. Following the cooking instructions I placed them on a preheated baking tray at gas mark 7 (220 c) for approximately 35 minutes. The result, well they looked slightly anaemic to be honest. I didn’t know whether to eat them or give them a blood transfusion! The smell, not the nice strong roast potato smell you get when you make your own from scratch but a watered down version, with a hint of tin foil. The taste, exactly the same... Read review
