I don't like 10CC... I love them!
Review of Greatest Hits... And More [Remastered] - 10cc by  d_w86

Advantages: Witty lyrics; catchy melodies; great vocals; great value
Disadvantages: none at all.

...vocals. From the simplistic yet fantastic falsetto on 'Donna,' to the beautiful emotive tones on 'I'm not in love' and Godley & Creme's 'Cry,' this album will take on an emotional journey and bring back tonnes of memories. From classic 70s pop rock on 'Rubber Bullets' and 'The Dean And I' to quite eerie but thought-provoking epics such as 'I'm Mandy Fly Me,' 10CC's 'Greatest Hits...And More,' has much to offer. Words can't really describe 10CC's music so it's best to let the songs speak for themselves. It's a fairly easy bet that this compilation will feature at least one song you can recognise from the title alone no matter what era you were born in. The fact that this compilation features pretty much all of the solo greatest hits from the bandmembers (even the Andrew Gold collaboration from Wax, which I hadn't heard for years) and some... 9cc!
Review of Sheet Music - 10cc by  paulapollo

Advantages: Very inventive
Disadvantages: Too clever, clever at times

...All the early 10cc albums were gems of inventiveness, but they could also descend into trying to be too clever by half, and 'Sheet Music' is no exception. It's certainly a strong album overall, with 'The Wall Street Shuffle', 'The Worst Band In The World', and 'Silly Love' all being good, witty rock songs. It was around this time (1974) that 10cc unveiled their guitar-enhancing invention called the gizmo, and it's certainly a beautiful sound, well illustrated on 'Old Wise Men', which was witten with Eric Clapton in mind - Eric wasn't amused! Some stuff is downright silly like 'Clockwork Creep', while other tracks only partially work such as 'Baron Samedi' and 'Oh Effendi' - too smart for their own good, at times, with some of their lyrics and musical eccentricities were 10cc. 'Hotel' and 'The Sacro-Iliac' are good fun... Read review

1 fore the pack-rat
Review of Very Best Of 10cc, The [Remastered] - 10cc by  CrutcHead

Advantages: comprehensive
Disadvantages: could've been a double cd package instead

...If you would have to score a cd of 10CC, make it this retrospective album of the band. Quite a definitive compilation - it includes the very first incarnation of the four members of this band as Hotlegs w/ their single "Neanderthal Man", up to the two remaining members Stewart and Gouldman's final schtick as 10CC w/ the single "Dreadlock Holiday" from the BLOODY TOURISTS album; + this also contains the other half of the band playing as Godley&Creme, w/ their songs "Under Your Thumb", and the mtv overkilled "Cry". The cd also features the full album version of their top 10 hit "I'm Not In Love" from THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK lp, and also from that same album, is their own take on rock opera -the comedic "Une Nuit A Paris (Parts 1 to 3)". Filled with humour on the most of their tracks- at times the band seem to even resemble some... Read review

The Best Of 100cc
Review of Very Best Of 10cc, The [Remastered] - 10cc by  polydeuces

Advantages: Some excellent singles
Disadvantages: Sounds a bit tame now

...Can’t think of a good band which had a string of hits in the 1970s heh. Think no further than 10cc and even after they split further hits followed for Kevin Godley (the bearded one) and Lol Crème (the high pitched voiced one). Firstly the 10cc hits in chronological order. ‘Donna’ is a simple 1950s feel pop ballad delivered by co-write Lol Crème but with some added depth from the backing. ‘Rubber Bullets’ followed a year later in 1973 and is the first track on the album to cover matters judicial or penal. An odd song about a jail riot to be quelled by force after a dance descends into violence. Well you don’t get that in a Westlife song do you. Another year later and ‘The Wall Street Shuffle’ charted as an anthem to corporate greed and the quest for money. Although the subject matter... Read review

THE music of the 70's - what memories!
Review of Sheet Music [Remastered] - 10cc by  SusanLesley

Advantages: Good music, different, versatile
Disadvantages: 10cc disadvantages? Never!

...than just 4 of them in the band! Incidentally this would be something that would really come into its own when they recorded the massive hit 'I'm Not In Love', but I digress. OLD WILD MEN This is my personal favourite on this album. Penned by Godley and Crème, with lead vocals by Eric Stewart it is a haunting song about the 'old men of rock and roll'. The use of the synthesizers, Melotron, autoharp and gizmo only serve to add to the beauty of the melody. In case you are not familiar with 10cc, Eric Stewart is the one that sang the lead vocals on I'm Not In Love, which will give you an idea of the quality of this track. CLOCKWORK CREEP Now for something completely different to coin a phrase! This one is a fast moving ditty sung from the perspective of a time bomb on an aeroplane. Written this time by Godley and Crème with lead vocals... Read review

Breakfast in America (Re-Mastered )
Review of Breakfast In America [Remastered] - Supertramp by  terriano

Advantages: a faultless pop album
Disadvantages: peoples perception of Supertramp

...Somewhere between the angry chaos of punk and the short lived glamour of disco the public in 1979 found time for Supertramp and their irresistable blend of adult themed rock with an emphasis on intelligent pop ,the bands sixth studio album finally delivered what the band had been promising for most of the seventies, with "Breakfast in America "they managed to hone their individual sensibilities to a near perfect blend ,ripe for American radio and Top of the Pops and shaking off their reputation for over indulgent pomp in the process, their previous two hits "Give a little Bit" and "Dreamer" hinted an intelligent humorous pop group in the vein of ,say, 10cc ,but real mainstream success had aluded them up to this point . The albums introduction "Gone Hollywood"was classic Supertramp ,mediocre by the standard of things to come but it did... Read review

Too good for the UK
Review of Mad Season - Matchbox 20 by  earningstuff

Advantages: 13 great tracks
Disadvantages: not marketed in UK

...up) are sublime. Thought provoking - yet simple. Obvious - yet full of hidden meaning. A personal favourite comes from a song called RESTSTOP and is typical love angst Thomas: “While you were sleeping I was listening to the radio wondering what you’re dreaming when it came to mind that I just didn’t care”. If I had to pick out favourites then CRUTCH and BENT must be near the top of the list as they are the most uptempo. IF YOURE GONE is a classic love song likened to 10CC’s I’m not in love. BUT Being brutally honest this is an album full of tracks that are singles in their own rights. There are no weak links what so ever! I can’t recommend this album enough. It’s great soft rock music that borders on American style pop/rock. It’s so popular in America I can’t see that it’... Read review

The white socks will rise again
Review of Top 10 1980's Pop Bands by  pinkmatchstick

Advantages: some good solid pop tunes
Disadvantages: you've probably forgotten them by now

...today. "the money gets divided, the women get excited", warns the vibe on this anti-drug schtick. 8. Renee & Renato - Save Your Love (1982) I love this record. A beautiful orchestral backing with a good tenor vocal and passable female backing vocals. Aw, shucks! 9. Wax - Bridge To Your Heart (1987) Woooah, wooaah, ooh oh oh, building a bridge to your heart......ex 10CC man Kevin Godley and some American bloke came up with a great pop tune here. Made the Top 10 too as well, 10. Steven Duffy - Icing On The Cake (1985) The one-time Duran Duran man, more known for Kiss Me (With Your Mouth), but this is better. A nice summer song about parties on the street and love that can't be replaced. So there we are, a trawl through the 80's. Hope it brought back some (happy?) memories and puts a smile on your face,... Read review

My heart will go on....
Review of Top 10 Love Songs by  babajane32

Advantages: Love,love and more love
Disadvantages: sentimental tom foolery

...Whilst listening to the radio the other day I was reminded of a song I hadn't heard for a long time. The song was one that held special meaning for me,from a psat relationship I thought long since dead and buirried. That's probably why I hadn't listened to the song for such a long time. However, still waters run deep and a first, true love lingers on somewhere inside no matter how much time rolls along. I was so moved by listening to that song that I was inspired to write this op,and although my main music passions tend to vere more towards rock, there are some love songs that I am immensley fond of listening to.All of them hold a meaning for me in some way or other, and I thought I'd like to share with you those most special to me. 1/I'm not in love (10cc) This song is hang over from my teenage years, and it's lyrical denial of love still... My top 10 single records , oh yeah .
Review of Top 10 Songs of All Time by  CaptainKidd

Advantages: Great Music
Disadvantages: How can there be any ?

...Top 10 records ( singles ) of all time - It's been very interesting reading the many ops out there on members favourite songs of all time . Such a varied selection , but all writers have one thing in common , their love of Music . I've had to think very long and hard in choosing just 10 song titles , and in doing so , have set myself only one ultimatum , that of no repeat artists in the list . But what are my likes and dislikes in music .....varied to say the least , a big no-no to garage , acid , heavy punk , but a huge yes to rock , pop , easy listening and the classical bit ( for an unusal intro to this try Isao Tomita ) . So here goes , and in no special order...... 1) Queen - ' Somebody To Love ' Chosen over Bohemian Rhapsody , because I feel it has that little extra ingredient . Of course as with Bo. Rhap. you get... Read review
