Popstars Rock
Review of Popstars by  siany

Advantages: Fun to watch
Disadvantages: Sometimes annoying

...I admit it.I'm addicted to the programme they call Popstars. It started slowly but now it's gradually taken over my Saturday night! For all you who've been in a black hole for the last past few months Popstars is on weekly. It started with the auditioning of thousands of young hopefulls throughout the country aged between 18-24, and slow but surely that number was narrowed down to five people , Myleene, Suzanne, Kym, Danny, and Noel. They are now as we speak being made into the next popstar group phenomenon and have decided upon being called Hear'say. At the beginning i grew to love and hate many of the Wannabe's each wanting to be famous, hoping that Nigel choses them.I hoped the people who annoyed me were sent packing and yes this does include Darius "Hit me baby one more time"O.k.then i will, with a sledge hammer.Taz, One of my faves... STILL WINNING
Review of Winning Days (Parental Advisory) [ECD] [PA] - Vines (The) by  dan_wales

Advantages: Shows the Vines ability to do both quiet and loud very well
Disadvantages: the weak tracks are very weak indeed

...'Winning days' is the second album form Australian group 'The Vines' A lot of critics consider this a poor follow up to their much lauded debut, but in reality it's a solid album, if at times slightly uninspiring. The msuic press got very overexcited with 'Highly Evolved', the debut album, with the NME comparing it to 'Nevermind' by Nirvana. In reality 'The Vines' are influenced more by British pop music such as The Beatles, Supergrass and The Kinks than American grunge. Their songs manage to be aggresive and loud, whilst remaining great pop songs. Their quieter moments are country-esque ballads that can be something of a hit or miss affair. I'm going to go through the album track by track: 1.Ride The lead single is MTV approved commercial rock with a killer shouty chorus and a stabbed guitar riff. Inane lyrics aside it's a fine slice... The Blurring of the Lines Between Rock & Pop
Review of Silver Side Up - Nickelback by  thomlafferty

Advantages: Catchy, anthemic, killer riffs, strong vocals
Disadvantages: Unoriginal, uninspiring, some filler tracks

...Few bands have split public opinion as much as Nickelback in modern times. Some label them as grunge revivalists who have magnificently put together a set of glorious anthems to crush the pop mainstream. Others would have you believe that the Canadian four-some are a commercialised commodity that has cashed in on selling-out what was once a great era. It is fair to say that ‘Silver Side Up’ is certainly one of the most commercially ‘pushed’ albums a rock band has ever produced. My days at a radio station alone gave me an insight into the extent to which this album was forced upon people’s ears- Roadrunner would phone up every day almost pleading with the station to play the now legendary single, ‘How You Remind Me’. It is perhaps this type of ‘pushing’ that has made the song the most listened to song in the U.S. EVER. No, it didn... Read review

Hard Rock Cafe
Review of Internetcafes by  vurt

Advantages: In a pub
Disadvantages: slow speeds

...The Hard Rock Cafe, located just at the bottom end of the Old Town Square has a small Internet cafe section at the rear. I'm not actually sure it is an official Hard Rock Cafe as it seems a bit Prague-standard rough but I assume it just hard for Hard Rock to sue them. The Internet Cafe is situated at the rear. Just ask the bar maid and she will wave you through. Once in there there are about 6 PCs which have just a browser installed. Access times were a little slow, around 56K modem speed, so suspect no 2Mb pipe installed. All sites are available not surprising as Prague is hardly prudish. Once finished pay the bar maid on the way out. As of 5/8/00 prices were 80Koruna for one hour (about £1.50)... Read review

Let Us Rock
Review of 10 Best Rock Songs by  waynehorrigan

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

...of a husky Marianne Faithfull to provide backing vocals is inspired! Number: 3 Artist: UGLY KID JOE Song: Everything About You Year: 1992 Why: Usually one-hit wonders are one-hit wonders for a reason, but for Ugly Kid Joe they made the mistake on puting all their eggs in one basket and never writing a decent song again. This is pop-rock heaven with the singer listing all the reasons he hates his lover and how their views differ. UKJ did return a year later with a wimppy cover of Cat Steven's Cats In The Cradle and then....disappeared. Still, great tune and real feelgood rock song. Number: 2 Artist: METALLICA Song: Enter Sandman Year: 1991 Why... Read review

TV Times.
Review of Come On Over - Shania Twain by  JeffreyB

Advantages: convenient pop.country
Disadvantages: 1 or 2 dull tracks

...rock orientated tune, gentle love song from the movie Notting Hill with Julie Roberts and Hugh Grant. 9. Whatever You Do! Don't (3.49) A love song. 10. Man I Feel Like a Woman! (3.54) High powered rock the second U.K single, possibly concerned with a night out and gender politics. 11. Love Get's Me Every Time (3.33) Another rock and roll song, a love song as well. 12. Don't be stupid (You Know I Love You) (3.34) Another rock song. 13. That Don't Impress Me much (UK Dance Mix) (3.59) A very catchy tune and the 1st UK single. 14. Honey, I'm Home (3.34) Catchy folk/rock sound about a return from work at the end of the day. 15. If You Wanna Touch Her, Ask ! (4.14) A more laid back romantic song probably about love making. 16. Rock This Country (4.26) Rock and roll probably about a tour. ***MY OPINION*** Personally I think... Read review

Wanted - Open Top Sports Car
Review of Wonderland - McFly by  stevieray

Advantages: Great mix of rock and pop
Disadvantages: Slightly uncool for middle aged people

...I am a rock fan at heart, so when presented with a McFly cd I thought, oh dear, my wife doesn't know me very well. However, Wonderland was a real suprise to my ears. The quality of the musicianship is testament to the fact that is band of young guys are at the top of their trade on merit, not hype. What's more if you're one of those fussy listeners who require the production values of the recording and lyrical content to be first class (that will be me), then you won't be disappointed. Containing 12 excellent gritty guitar laiden tracks, Wonderland offers a suprisingly rocky edge to some good, straight forward pop music. A sort of Rolling Stones meets The Monkees vibe. As I'm typing this review, Track 5 - I Wanna Hold You, is screaming though my cd player at me. Excellent stuff. With a good mix of ballads and stomping rockers, each... Read review

Rocking Kerrang
Review of Kerrang! by  Shanksey

Advantages: Rock on tap
Disadvantages: Too many ad breaks

...– I did it my K) People call the Audition line on 09061220666 at £1.50 per minute. Would be rock stars then sing along to that weeks chosen audition track using the lyrics on K text page 668. Some people sound ok, but others are excruciatingly embarrassing. Kerrang! is definitely the channel for all those people who want to escape from the tuneless fashion victims found in the current pop charts.... Read review

Review of Parachutes - Coldplay by  jamiegiles

Advantages: The saviours of Indie music
Disadvantages: or maybe not

...The London foursome in Coldplay has been a critical darling in the band's native U.K. since the start of the new millennium, showcasing melodic pop in a slew of EP releases and constant live shows. Not as heavy as Radiohead or snobbish as Oasis, Coldplay is a band of young musicians who are still honing their sweet harmonies on the debut release Parachutes. Combining bits of distorted guitar riffs and swishing percussion, Parachutes is a delightful introduction and also quickly indicates the reason why this album earned Coldplay a Mercury Music Prize nomination in fall 2000. Frontman Chris Martin's lyrical wordplay is feministic in the manner of Geneva's Andrew Montgomery, but far more withered. The imagery captured on Parachutes is exquisitely dark and artistically abrasive, and the entire composition is tractable thanks to gauzy... Read review

The best guide to music...EVER
Review of Everything that starts with Z ... by  Yeahmate

Advantages: there is much good music
Disadvantages: there is some pig-shite awful music too

...to be was alternative but it just didn’t work out and Coldplay are the only band I can actually name who its “Ok” to like” DEATH METAL loud, tuneless with screaming instead of singing Korn, Slipknot “I hate you all, people = shit, I just want to be different, so I hang around with a load of other people who dress the same as me…and die their hair purple. I was pro-war because I wanted to stay up late and watch the air-strikes on TV” DRIP/BUBBLE GUM POP Trash, often ripoffs of older pop songs back in the days when they were accepted Westlife, Blue, Will Young “I’m a girl aged 7-15 who fancies every member of every “Boy-band” ever.
