Reviews of salomon skis
The original freeride skis
Review of Salomon X Scream by
Domhughes
Advantages: Ease of turning, handling, style, following.
Disadvantages: None I can think of.
...I go to Sandown ski club ever week, and I always try to get the Salomon X-Screams. They are incredibly easy to turn, have a nice carving action, and are probably one of the best skis around. They have a huge free-ride following, and are used by beginners and experts alike. They are the skis by which all others are judged. The newer X-screams have the Prolink arms 'to guarantee ski/snow contact'. Wether it actually works is another matter... but it sounds and looks cool!
So basically, these skis will suit anyone, especially those who are looking to improve their turning and confidence, and want to learn how to carve easily.
Excellent skis!...

The Greatest Skis in the World
Review of Salomon Teneighty by
Xtasy
Advantages: Fun, fun, fun
Disadvantages: None
...I will never ski on any other ski than these. I love them to pieces.
In the 1999/2000 season, Salomon intrigued the ski market by introducing the first twin-tip ski for the consumer. A twin-tip ski is one that is raised at both the tip and the tail, allowing the skier to ski backwards as well as forwards. These skis heralded a revolution in the ski industry, which other ski manufacturers have joined.
Despite the influx of twin-tip skis in the 2000/2001 season, the Salomon 1080s are seen by many people as being the only ski of choice.
As an amateur freeride skier, I can't get enough of them. The 1080 has given me a new lease of life over the whole mountain. When jumping, I now have the option of landing or taking off backwards, without fear of having the tails of my skis jam into the snow and me ending up in a heap.
The skis have...

Skiboarding
Review of Snowblading - General by
DavidK4L
Advantages: The are really good fun, and can be taken seriously
Disadvantages: none
...To get rid of the myth that skiboarding and snowblading are different, they are basically the same. The difference is the comapny. Salomon make snowblades, all other companies make skiboards( companys such as line, groove, cannon.) Skiboarding or snowblading( as salomon calls it) is the newest extreme snow sport to hit the slopes. With 2 small skis (from 60 to 100cm) the skiboards are based on small snowboards. They are fatter than the average ski( agressive skiboards are anyways) and they are a lot easier to do tricks on. They are perfect for learning parrell turns as they are smaller it is much easier to lear. You can also get freestyle and speed boards which are a lot thinner that the agressive ones. The fatness of the boards allows for easier landing when doing tricks. Skiboarding is the new trend. They are so much fun...

Snowblading for all
Review of SKI - General by
Bairsty
Advantages: Fun, ease of use, for everyone
Disadvantages: safety concerns
...One of the latest ski crazes is the "new school", short twin tipped skis for use all over the mountain. Well they dont come much shorter than blades, available in a variety of lengths and widths from 80cms up to 99.9cms with Salomon,K2 and Line being the main makes.
The blades are fitted not with conventional bindings but with a fixed cam action that clamps onto the boot, and as there is no binding brake if they become unattached during a fall, an ankle strap is fitted to stop a long walk down the mountain to retrieve your ski. A dedicated blading boot is now available which is shorter and lighter, but traditional boots are fine.
One difference with using blades is you dont need sticks, just use your arms for balance.
So where can they be used?.. well apart from deep offpiste powder, just about everywhere. They are great for learning...

Ski of the year in some mags - I'm not surprised!
Review of Rossignol Bandit B2 Skis by
schneckster
Advantages: Go anywhere do almost anything - on snow, of course!
Disadvantages: Snow melts :o(
...There I was wandering round the Ski Show at the NEC looking for my dream ski - Salomon's X-Scream Series - at a decent price. I found it several times over, but as usual, overpriced for what they were. Salomon's never seem to be bargains, in my experience. Then the boss of my favourite holiday company suggested looking at Rossignol's Bandit B2. According to him, the French ski shops loved them. Intrigued, I wandered around again looking for them. No luck. They didn't seem to be there. Disappointed, I went home and decided to look on the net for this mysterious ski. I didn't find much there, either. I began to wonder if they really existed.
A week or two later, I bought a skiing magazine that had a review of all the upcoming 2004 skis. And in there, was a review of the mythical beast that was the Rossi B2, along with it's siblings the B1...

No more rentals for me.
Review of Salomon X-Wave 9 by
alexpreston
Advantages: Good quality boot
Disadvantages: Take a while to break in
...After years and years of renting boots I thought it was about time that I finally shelled out for my own pair of ski boots. Since I’ve been going every winter for the last few years I figured that I would make most of my money back within 4 to 5 years.
I went down to my local ski shop and before long had paid about £180 for my new boots. They retail for more like £220 but fortunately for me they happened to be on sale!
The boots have what is called a “3D Custom Fit Liner”. What this means is that when you have the boots fitted, the inner liner is custom shaped to your foot using a special machine that heats the liner. I felt like a bit of a ninny sitting their in the shop with my feet in a machine shaped liked a foot spa, but it’s good to know that the boots will be a very snug fit to my feet.
As for the hard outer part to the boot...

Great but N.A.G.A. St. Anton
Review of Whistler, Ski Resort by
gritmuncher
Advantages: Tons of Snow, fresh powder in April, scenery
Disadvantages: Too far, too commercial, Rain in April
...rental, ski tickets and ski lessons for the kids using the phone number given in the great www.whistler-blackcomb.com website. This worked out also good. The guy I got on the line was very helpful and when we arrived in Whistler we were in the computer and got all the equipment and passes without any hassle. The only thing no one told us was that we had to first visit 'Guest Relations' next to the Whistler gondola to pick up all the vouchers, etc. before visting the rental shop and ski school. The other thing which was somewhat a bummer was that my binding had not been properly set up: fortunately Salomon had a Demo tent at Blackcomb and set it up properly. I am therefore not a fan of the 'corporate' rental shop.
We ended up with what we thought was a hotel but was actually a condo. Seems like these condos are the norm which was fine for us...

Salomon ST80 limited edition
Review of Salomon ST80 by
duncbarton
Advantages: Good looks, great price, great overall performance.
Disadvantages: Only available in one size (8.5 UK).
...Last year (2000) Salomon announced the release of two new skates, the ST90 and the ST80. For some reason Salomon decided to scrap production of the ST80 and released the ST70 (a cheaper model) instead. Last summer Salomon decided to sell off all of there sample models of the ST80 so now these samples are available.
Since these are sample skates they were only ever made in one size (uk 8.5) so if this size is too large or too small for you then forget about buying these skates as riding wrongly sized skates can be detrimental to the health of your feet.
Out of the box these skates look amazing. The cool blue-grey colour used for the boot is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing of on any of the recent Salomon skates. This is highlighted by the white frame which gives the skates a very clean, stylish appearance.
These skates come...

Hardwearing UFS skate
Review of Salomon st10 by
aikon
Advantages: UFS, long lasting, cheap.
Disadvantages: ?
...The Salomon st10 is one of the new range of UFS (Universal Frame System) skates released by Salomon just before Christmas 2001. The st10 is the budget skate which they say as aimed at beginner to intermediate skaters and they cost £140.
Looking at the skate there don't seem to be many differences between these and the previously released Feinburgs other than the colours and the wheel set-up. The skates come with a nice looking blue cuff and liner, white soul plates and black salomon UFS frames. The salomon liner is one of the most comfortable and long lasting liners around. The liner features coolfit so once you've worn them a few times the mold to the shape of your feet making them much more comfortable.
The wheel set-up features a nice fast rolling set-up of salomons own ST 56mm/88a wheels with a nice set of ABEC 3 bearings.
The UFS...

Some great skiing to be had
Review of Les Deux Alpes by
jambo6
Advantages: Snow almost guaranteed
Disadvantages: Awkward accessibility
...’t get bogged down on them, as they aren’t the point of this opinion. Whilst the Chalet reps were great, the holiday reps were so laid back they might as well have still been in bed. This was compensated for in several ways though. First Choice provide their own ski hire and technician. Most people would blanche at this, wondering what the con is. Well there didn’t seem to be one. Reasonable Carving skis were standard and they had a selection of newer skis, blades and boards available to play with. I got a buckshee pair of Salomon 720’s (Twin tips in the same mould as, but cheaper than, the Xscreams, 1080s etc. Offer more edge than Carvers and are good for tricks) for the last 4 days, which was a great bonus. They also provided a decent selection of trips and activities and made the effort to interest the customers...
