...The Scottish National Museum for Modern Art is situated across from its sister gallery (The Dean Gallery). A number of visits have shown the displays to be varied and changing although the quality of exhibitions can vary. It is situated within grounds replete with sculpture, and although it is a small gallery, it is well worth a visit, especially when combined with the Dean. Probably the best loved exhibit is that of the American Tourists, a sculpture of the stereotypical vistors Edinburgh gets from the US. They have frequently confused vistors with their life like appearance, and really need to be observed a while to make sure they are not real!... Read review

Advantages: Great sculpture
Disadvantages: it all seemed a bit strange when it was first erected

...Angel of the North Heralding as I do from Newcastle, and having always thought of this as my home town regardless of where I have lived, I watched the erection of this structure with interest. Its completion in 1998 heralded much interest and it has recently been voted fifth modern wonder of Britain. Built on a panoramic site on a hilltop, the angel is, to me, a symbol of "coming home". At the top of the hill where the angel stands to the right of me, I can look downwards and see the whole of Tyneside spread beneath me. Some 90000 drivers driving along the A1 each year see this sculpture, and it can also be seen by passengers travelling on the East Coast train line from London to Edinburgh. Advantages: Gardens, beautiful sculptures

...A wonderful little museum, with some exceptional sculptures. Based in Rodin's former residence, this is a fairly small place but well worth a visit. Of course the classics like The Thinker and The Burghers of Calais are here, along with many other works including some beautiful marble sculptures and the amazing Gates of Hell. The museum also contains works collected by Rodin including paintings by Van Gogh and Renoir, The Museum has front and back sculpture gardens, which have never been crowded the several times I've visited, and the back garden in particular is a great place to sit and relax for a while. There is also a café, with prices that aren't too unreasonable. One could rush round the museum in under an hour, but it is worth at least a full morning or afternoon to appreciate Rodin's talent at leisure. The Museum is near... Read review
