A week would be too long
Review of Southend on Sea in General by
dabmim
Advantages: okay for a short break
Disadvantages: a few
...But what did Southend have to offer? Well, quite a bit really. To start with, there is the world famous pier, which spans a massive 1.3 miles into the sea. You can take a train there and back(don't know the cost), or for around £1.50 per a dult (1/2 price available for normal cases) you can walk along the pier, and ride the train back. However, the end of the pier is less than entertaining. There is a small amusement arcade, a small shop, and a few cafés. If it wasn’t for the fact of saying ‘I’ve been on the worlds longest pier’ the effort is hardly worth it.
The town also has a fun fair, named ‘Peter Pan’s playground’. This is quite expensive at £15 for a l day unlimited ride wristband (compared to Great Yarmouth’s £7 last year). But the kids had fun, and probably got their wristband value...

Safeway using Argon
Review of Safeway (Shop) by
spacebaby
Advantages: They tell us that Argon is better for the products
Disadvantages: Slime and a wierd taste. Who knows?
...It's dissapointing when a "health fix" tastes cak. I have been buying Safeway pre-packed lettuces for some months now. It's that lunchtime "I'm on a health fix day", so I drive off to Safeway for my regular rabbit food fix. The other time I cop out and buy the pre-packed salads is on a Friday night for the girlies coming round for pasta. And yet, I wonder why I still buy it. Is it just me, or does it taste funny? Apart from the fact that the pepper always seems to be off, I always get the feeling that it's never quite fresh. And times it's been in date, and had slimy gunk at the bottom of the bag the day after it's purchased.
And two days ago, I read in the Daily Mail that Safeway use Argon (gas) to pre-pack their lettuce. I wonder if this is what has been making the food taste awful and go off far quicker? Safeway assures us...

The Dead Sea and me
Review of Dead Sea (Israel) by
buzzard_cad
Advantages: An unusual experience, good for the skin
Disadvantages: A long walk, the salty water may sting after a while
...~Summary~
The Dead Sea, this was the main reason for my trip to Israel. The healing properties of the waters may be overstated, but you can't go to Israel and not experience mudpacks and swimming in the salty water. The resorts are well equipped with showers, lockers, toilets, restaurant and products to take back home. The actual Dead Sea waters are receding so it is a long walk to the water edge, but there is a land train if you have trouble walking far. The waters are a bit stingy on the skin so I would advise caution if you have sensitive skin.
~Introduction~
The Dead Sea is in Israel and is shared with Jordan. The Dead Sea is renowned for its revitalising properties and products from the Dead Sea area include mud masks, bath salts and other bathing items. The Dead Sea is also below sea level in a valley and has very high salt...

Standing
Review of Poetry by
panther_hafsa
Advantages: N/A
Disadvantages: N/A
...this is the first poem i ever did and i wanted to share it and see if others could relate to what i was trying to say.
Standing and staring at the deep blue sea,
Thinking how clear it is to see
Closing her eyes she try’s
To look into her heart
To see her own blue sea
Seeing it within she sees how deep and dark, it flows
Standing and staring at her own hearts sea
Seeing the pain and misery
Hoping that one day it will flow clear as the deep blue sea.
i would love to hear peoples thoughts on this and if you could relate to what it was that i was thinking at the time i wrote it. I did actually write this standing by the sea in Blackpool....

The Roman Theatre
Review of Paphos (Cyprus) by
lalr
Advantages: Don't miss it.
Disadvantages: None
...Near Paphos, I also visited the Ancient Roman theater. It is similar to the one in Verona (Italy) but this one is smaller. The beauty about this structure is that it is built in a semi circle manner with a small platform or flat area in the centre of the semi circle, where you can stand and speak and everyone will be able to hear you. It is un believable. This structure sits high on the hill side over looking a flat plane of land with the sea clearly visible not too far away. It is a beautiful setting, especially if you are with someone who likes a similar atmosphere. After visiting this ancient site, i went down the plains to the sea. The sea in this region of Cyprus faces the African continent and is rough. It is not advisable to go swimming in these parts but sitting by the sea with the strong sea-breeze splashing salt water on you...

All Pools should be like this on holiday
Review of Dead Sea (Israel) by
richardjmeek
Advantages: Sitt and chill out
Disadvantages: Dont get water in your eyes it hurts
...I visited the dead sea about 10 years ago now and still remember it very well. We visited for an afternoon on a trip from Jerusalem. The drive was breathtaking through the desert and beduin camps, and down to the dead sea. The temperature was scorching hot between 35-40c and quite humid near the sea. It ws amazing to get in and sit in the sea and fload without worrying about swimming, all pools on holiday should be like this. I sat and read the paper just for a clasic photo. Claims are also made about the mud of the dead sea containing healling properties well i believe as our mud fight cured my heat rash. Only thing is dead sea is on isralels border and you have to put up with guard towers and the odd soldier. I recomend anyone go to israel but maybe hold off for a few years until it settles down. Well worth the wait...

A book you can't put down
Review of Rendez-Vous With Rama - Arthur C. Clarke by
Rob099
Advantages: A C Clarke at his best before he started shared novels
Disadvantages: None
...I've read a lot of A C Clarke - from his early days doing short stories to his later stuff where he collaborated with other writers.
I believe this is his first novel after he wrote 2001 so is now quite an old piece.
I first read this book around the time of its first release - it is the first book I could not put down - gripping - imaginative - dramatic.
It is quite a short novel which means you can read it from front to back in a day.
The story is about a huge cylinder 'RAMA' which is heading towards the solar system and a team of scientists who are sent to investigate it.
The scientists don't actually discover the purpose of RAMA but have some dramatic adventures exploring the inside - from the initial decent of the end cap down the kilometers long stair case to the flight to the opposite end in a man powered glider...

Some of the Best Diving in the World
Review of Cayman Islands (Dive Sites) by
petehall
Advantages: Marine reserve. Fantastic visibility. Vast array of sea life.
Disadvantages: High cost of living and little to do apart from diving.
...Sharks, turtles, sting rays, manta rays, moray eels, baracuda, they've got the lot. The entire Cayman Islands area is a marine reserve, and no-one is even alowed to drop anchor there. Every 100 metres around the islands you will find buoys to tie up to. These have been carefully fixed into the sea bed so that the corals don't get damaged by anchors. Consequently, the coral is second to none - the best I've seen anywhere in the world. This also means that there is a stunning array of sea-life, including some of the most colourful and unusual fish you could wish to see.
Grand Cayman's coast is divided into a number of distinct areas by the local dive leaders, each with a name to identify it. These areas may be grouped into three main groups - West Coast, South Coast and North Coast, the east, I gather, is shallower and less...

Better than a goldfish any day!
Review of Benjamin Toys Sea Monkeys by
Thehonesttruth
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...What are Sea Monkeys
**************************
Sea Monkeys are weird little beasts. They are a hybrid variety of brine shrimp (Their correct Latin name is ''Artemia nyos''"after the New York Ocean Science Laboratories where the hybrid Sea-Monkeys were developed.")
Brine Shrimp for many years were harvested either live or as eggs to be sold in pet shops as fish food. After some cross breeding, Sea Monkeys, a variety of brine shrimp specially bred to live longer and be bigger than other varieties, were created.
Sea Monkeys appeal has always been in their unusual life cycle .By a rare process called ''Cryptobiosis'' (meaning hidden life') they are able to exist in latent suspended animation inside their miniscule eggs for indefinite amounts of time.

When you buy a sea monkey kit, there are three...

Ocean Village
Review of Southampton in General by
Autumn-Swallow
Advantages: Sea Breeze
Disadvantages: non
...Southampton is not a very interesting place, to be honest. It is not much of a city life, and not a country side. So, it doesn't have the best of both sides.
However, there is a quite interesting place called Ocean Village. It is not very big, but, there are a few pubs and a club and a couple of good restaurants. Because it is by the sea, so, I like to have dinner there especially in the summer. I enjoy the sea breeze, a pint of cooling beer, and a nice meal at a fairly reasonble price....
