a bit fishey
Review of Deep Blue Sea (Wide Screen) by  ejp79

Advantages: effects are not bad
Disadvantages: seen it all before

...A group of scientists and researchers are hard at work on a cure for Alzheimer's Disease. They are working at an isolated laboratory in the middle of the ocean. To create the cure, they use proteins that are found in the brain of sharks. To help develop more of the protein, the scientists enhance the brain size of the shark. This also makes them smarter. Three experimental smart sharks are now hunting the scientists that created them. The acting in Deep Blue Sea is some of the worst I've ever seen. This is particularly distracting during the first hour, when the story is being set up. After that, the performances take a back seat to the action sequences, which aren't all that bad. It's fun to sit back and guess which one of the heroes will be the next to be eaten. The film is very cliched. There is very little originality. It... Read review

Sony SAL16F28 Fisheye Lens.
Review of Sony SAL16F28 - fisheye lens - 16 mm F/2.8 by  Harry_Morris

Advantages: 180* Field of View, Color Correction Filters, Crisp Detail at close shots.
Disadvantages: Only fixable to the Sony DSLR-A100 Camera.

...As a skateboarding photographer, I find that finding a decent quality lense is just as important as finding the camera itself, and the Sony SAL-16F28 is that high quality kind of lense. A superb fisheye lens with a look all its own -- a fascinating perspective on landscapes, cities, crowds and special events. With a 180 degrees angle of view and extraordinary corner-to-corner sharpness, this lens achieves crisp, clear detail from about 8 inches upwards. This lense also includes 4 dial-like filters, that can be used to adjust color correction, and red and blue tone elimination, ensuring that everything captured, is to a standard that the user is completely satisfied with. Only issue concerning this item, is that is only mountable on the Sony DSLR-A100 camera, although possibly fixable if an adapter is used. An amazing product, that I... Read review

Happy snapper
Review of Sea & Sea MX-5 Camera by  ESpy

Advantages: Very little to go wrong, takes std 35mm film
Disadvantages: Could be cheaper!

...The MX5 (the Sea & Sea MX5, that is, not the Mazda) is a basic waterproof camera of the happy snapper variety. Depth resistant to 36m, it has a natty flip-up sportfinder/lens cover, built in flash and uses 35mm film. This camera is not aimed at the serious underwater photography crowd - it really is just a housed inexpensive 35mm camera. However, it is a nice bit of kit if you don't ask too much of it! There is no focussing to worry about (fixed focus, not autofocus), there is very little to go wrong and it is capable of taking some pretty good shots in shallow water. The onboard flash really shouldn't be used underwater, as backscatter will show up rather a lot and bleach out your images. I looked at buying one, but decided after much playing about with it that given my delusions of taking the odd semi-professional looking shot... Read review

It's a camera. It goes underwater
Review of Sea & Sea Motormarine II by  ESpy

Advantages: Cheaper than throwaways - and it goes deeper
Disadvantages: Rangefinding! Needs a strobe

...The Sea & Sea Motormarine II EX (also known as the Seamaster Pro) is a fairly simple underwater rangefinder camera. It is depth rated to 45m, has a maximum shutter speed of 1/125 and uses 35mm film (DX coded). It has a built in flash - which I have to say is of no use underwater (the flash is so close to the axis of the lens that it illuminates any suspended debris in the water, causing a snowstorm look...). However, it is useful on land & around pools (the ultimate party-proof camera?). I bought mine about 6 months ago to take to the Carribean for some snorkelling & diving, and found it excellent. The quality of some of the shots really astonished me - as a novice user, I didn't expect to get anything like the number of good shots (IMO) that I did. Trying to judge distances underwater is tricky at best, so I tended to work... Read review

Sea and Sea!
Review of Sea & Sea Seamaster Pro-EX by  ElyshaF

Advantages: Amazing pictures
Disadvantages: Heavy when above water

...I visited Australia as my brother lives over there a few years ago and he was lucky enough to book me a place to go scuba diving. I have always had such a desire to go and see the Coral Reef and all the life forms that you can't even imagine unless you have seen pictures in magazings. You couldn't believe my excitement when I was actually told that I was able to do this! I do not own this camera but was given the loan of it for my adventures to the bottom of the sea. As all of you will most likely know, you can't just take an ordinary camera on a journey like the one I was about to experience and with some of the cheap cameras around, you cannot always guarantee quality pictures. The features of this camera included: Built-in 35mm amphibious lens Unique built-in close-up lens that focuses down to 18 inches Automatic film load... Read review

Fujifilm's FinePix 6800 Zoom
Review of Fujifilm FinePix 6800 Zoom by  FlameDruid

Advantages: Portable, solid, and takes great photos.
Disadvantages: Small lense produces barrelling. Red eye.

...pictures on the LCD screen on the back does the battery flatten quickly. Take a lot of pictures in the daylight and swictch off the LCD and it will obviously last much longer. My house if full of A4 photographs in frames and they look brilliant. Not only is the quality of the images very good but - if you are tentative about digital versus conventional cameras - by using editing software you can crop and copy and paste your way to some great results that would have once been impossible. If you're drowning in a sea of photograph albums, this camera can take any number of pictures which can be stored on CD or DVD and viewed brighter and bigger than ever on your computer monitor or - with the right software - on your television screen. One or two small observations though: if you are trying to snap your children as they go around on a roundabout... Read review

Nikon Coolpix 950
Review of Nikon Coolpix 950 by  binnyw

Advantages: goosd deal
Disadvantages: none

...the clearest image. The camera is comfortable to hold, though two-handed operation is most comfortable, and both the optical and LCD viewfinders are a pleasure to use in a variety of lighting conditions. Optional telephoto, wide-angle, and fish-eye lens converters can enhance the camera's repertoire. Another of the Coolpix's outstanding features is the 0.8-inch focusing in macro mode, which enables the unit to be used for all kinds of close-up work. In jury testing, color and detail capture were very good in the print image, but the overall resolution of the hard-copy image fell a bit behind that of the category leaders. An exciting camera with a wide range of powerful features, the Nikon Coolpix 950 is a good choice for most applications.... Read review

The Excellent Sigma EX 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 DG lens.
Review of Sigma EX 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 DG by  petermock

Advantages: Superb design, value for money and professional results.
Disadvantages: None

...Sigma EX 12-24mm F4.5-5,6 DG Nikon fit AF D. This a great wide-angle zoom lens offering professional performance, results and is a joy to use. It is suitable for both digital SLR's and 35mm Film cameras and focusing can be used manually or autofocus. This my first Sigma lens as I own only quality Nikon lenses so I was unsure at first about purchasing a brand and lens unknown to me. Any doubts or fears about quality were put to rest as soon as I took the lens out of it's box. It is as well crafted as any Nikon lens and a truly remarkable piece of design. It has an unusual appearance as instead of the usual glass flat surface lens it has a "bobble" or "ball" of glass which has a very alien look to it. I'm still not used to this and I feel that as it is sticking out so much that it may be a bit vulnerable to potential damage... Read review

The Dead Sea and me
Review of Dead Sea (Israel) by  buzzard_cad

Advantages: An unusual experience, good for the skin
Disadvantages: A long walk, the salty water may sting after a while

...~Summary~ The Dead Sea, this was the main reason for my trip to Israel. The healing properties of the waters may be overstated, but you can't go to Israel and not experience mudpacks and swimming in the salty water. The resorts are well equipped with showers, lockers, toilets, restaurant and products to take back home. The actual Dead Sea waters are receding so it is a long walk to the water edge, but there is a land train if you have trouble walking far. The waters are a bit stingy on the skin so I would advise caution if you have sensitive skin. ~Introduction~ The Dead Sea is in Israel and is shared with Jordan. The Dead Sea is renowned for its revitalising properties and products from the Dead Sea area include mud masks, bath salts and other bathing items. The Dead Sea is also below sea level in a valley and has very high salt... Read review
