Taking reality TV to the extreme, The Contender is a game show whereby everyone in the country has a Government-assigned ID number, and each week there is a National Lottery-style ball draw to see who are going to be the next "Contenders". Basically the rules of the game are simple - the winner from the previous week has to do battle with 5 new contenders in a fight to the death. The last one of the 6 standing at the end "wins" and goes through to the next week's killing, hoping to gain the title of being the ultimate contender. ...Very bizarre, very strange, original, and frankly a little bit loopy. Series 7 is a reality TV show where the aim of the game is to survive by killing off the other contenders. I find it worrying that anyone could actually think up something like this, but I have to say it was fantastic. The reality thing worked well, although as the whole concept was so bizarre it was hard to try and believe it to be real, which you can with the things like Big Brother. To be fair BB is real and Series 7 isn’t which may explain that, but I like to be able to become involved in what I watch, which I found very difficult. The characters of the contenders were all very different, and it was very interesting to see how they expressed their objections to having to kill, and how some wanted to kill and get through. ...In my personal opinion i would say that friends is one of if not the best sitcom that has been around in ages. It has certainly proved to be one of the most popular. Friends stars Jennifer Aniston as Rachel, Courtney Cox Arquette as Monica, Lisa Kudrow as phoebe, Mat Leblanc as Joey, Matthew Perry as Chandler and David Schwimmer as Ross. Series 7 for those whose memory is a bit hay or they are unclear is the series where Monica and chandler finally get married and this dvd contains these episodes. Advantages: Timeless script and quality acting. A classic.
Disadvantages: Will you consider the 5 episodes to be the Very Best?

...This DVD is excellent and a poignant reminder of quality sit-com with sublime writing and excellent acting. Despite the 70's setting the comedy itself hasn't aged at all. 4 of the 5 episodes on this DVD are from the 1972 Series 7 (the other being the first episode from the 1974 Series 8) and to be honest the 3 remaining episodes from Series 7 could and should have been included here. Remember the classic episode 'Divided We Stand' where the house was divided into two? Its not here - neither is 'Loathe Story' where Harold has therapy after a near murderous sleepwalking incident and also omitted is 'Live Now PAYE Later' where Albert's tax fiddles result in Harold posing as his 'sister' to fool the taxman. ...This box set has 6 discs each containing four episodes. This is not like some of the other series where there are four episodes on one side and four on the other. The discs in this series 7 box set show the original TV broadcast episode on Side A and Side B shows the same episode but with 'never before seen footage'. There are not really any big differences but I did manage to spot the extra footage when watching these. I am not really sure why they did both though as I am sure anybody who owns this box set will probably only ever watch the extended versions. Series 7 starts from when Monica and Chandler have just got engaged and Monica accuses Rachel of stealing her thunder and she catches her kissing Ross. After this episode things move on to just general funny storylines. These are the ones with stories such as Phoebe trying... Read review

Advantages: Great fun comedy, for either a lonely night in or a night with friends!
Disadvantages: Ending after Series 8.

...coffeehouse ‘Central Perk’. The stars of ‘Friends’ are Courteney Cox Arquette (Monica), Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), David Schwimmer (Ross), Matthew Perry (Chandler) and last but not least Matt Le Blanc (Joey). Monica and Ross are brother and sister, and currently on Channel 4 Chandler and Monica are engaged. Friends is definently a great comedy sitcom, the reason it’s a great success is probably because most people can relate to at least one of the characters, Matthew Perry is amazingly funny as Chandler and Matt Le Blanc is also great at playing the sometimes dumb, Joey! I don’t know many people who don’t like Friends so if you haven’t yet seen it, watch it as soon as you can! I’ve seen every episode (I know pretty sad!) and I would have to say that Series 7... ...This DVD, like the others in its series and also many of the others, is a double sided disc, with one side being the original episodes and the other side containing the directors cut and extended episodes, containing deleted scenes and a few minutes of footage that was not shown on TV. In truth, these extras are limited and not much change to the originals but there is a chance to get into the behind the scenes element of Friends by seeing what they cut out and what actually makes TV. This DVD has (in my opinion) one of the funniest sequences on it with Chandler and Rachel fighting over cheesecakes that are being delivered to the wrong address, as well as seeing the appearance of the famed "holiday armadillo."
