Reviews of shark attack
Jaws Manages to capture is viewers!
Review of Jaws (30th Anniversary Special Edition) by
will-allen
Advantages: Great Movie, doesnt rely on effects
Disadvantages: Awful effects and really fake shark
...and the characters maybe could be saved.
Just after the expert has entered the cage and has not finished preparing to get his gear ready we see an under-water shot of the shark expert in the foreground looking nervous facing then camera and searching for the shark. We see the shark behind his shoulder becoming bigger and bigger, this is a vital moment in the film as it is the first time we see the shark, before we have only seen representations of the shark. This shot makes the audience want to scream, 'he's behind you' in an effort to warn the expert.
This display of dramatic irony when the audience can see the shark and yet the expert cannot, is the main device used throughout the film as the victims are attacked without warning by the shark, this gives these scenes a bit of a pantomime feel.
The audience think that the end has come early when...

Jaws media course work essay:
Analyse the ways that the director builds up suspense and scares the audience in the film Jaws
Jaws the action packed American film that sank its teeth in to the box offices in1975 became major must see for years after. It was directed by Steven Spielberg, who said he made jaws as an experiment of fear. The film is about the jaws of a great white shark that starts to hunt off the coast of Amity Island, terrorising a small holiday resort.
After a young girl is attacked Chief Brody, a newcomer from new York who came...

Safe to Enter the Water Again
Review of Deep Blue Sea (Wide Screen) by
carolinesite
Advantages: A good story line, good acting
Disadvantages: Not researched very well
...I was very intrigued by the Jaws films, so much so, that I wanted to know more about this Great White Shark.
I borrowed books from the library and purchased a copy of a book called 'Shark Attack', that listed all logged attacks by sharks from all over the world. It logged the weather at the time of the attack, condition of the water, what the victim was doing, time of attack and much more.
The more I read and learnt, the more I started to respect this gruesome Tyranasaurus of the deep, and now it's total existence is under threat.
I watch with awe the great programmes we have dished up to us on The Discovery Channel about sharks. Even past victims like Rodney Fox have come to respect these sea scavengers.
When Deep Blue Sea came out on video I could not wait to see it.
Not because I wanted to see people eaten one by one, but I...

a rather fishy tale
Review of Everything that starts with S ... by
Amy_Coppock
Advantages: they're so pretty
Disadvantages: they're becoming extinct
...The image of a triangular dorsal fin cutting through the surface of the water has to be most people's worst nightmare, or if not at the very least unsettling - certainly not a situation I'd like to find myself in, if I were in the water at the time.
Still I can't help thinking that sharks in general have bee given a bit of a raw deal. Admittedly they are my all time favourite animal, so I'm bound to be biased, but I get the feeling that films such as Jaws and Deep Blue, along with Channel 5's shark weeks, featuring endless programmes on shark attacks and all their gruesome gory details don't really do much for the species reputation. So I thought I'd write a little about them in order to try ad convince that they are not evil man-eating machines, but highly adapted predators that are very rapidly becoming endangered. I mean take Bruce...

The shark is a turd with teeth and fins
Review of Jaws DVD by
Darth_Mills
Advantages: Great Acting, Great Script, Great Music
Disadvantages: Story's a bit run-of-the-mill, Poor Special Effects
..."Jaws" is based on the best-selling novel by Peter Benchley. No offence to the author, but this is one of those rare occasions where the film is better than the book.
You probably know the story. After a girl is attacked and killed (violently) by a 3-ton 25-foot Great White Shark, Chief Martin Brody wants to close the beaches of Amity Island. The Mayor, concerned that the incident will ruin the resort town's summer moneymaking, tries to cover it up. The public is alerted after another death. Eventually, after (you've guessed it) more deaths, a team is assembled to hunt and kill the shark.
The acting and script are top notch. The three members of the shark-hunting team, Chief Brody, Matt Hooper (shark expert) and the Ahab-like Quint (shark fisherman), (Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw respectively), are played...

Ooooh, bite me!
Review of Jaws DVD by
pmcds
Advantages: Nearly everything
Disadvantages: Special effects limited in 1975
...This timeless classic from Steven Spielberg has a simple plotline that capyivated millions of audiences and spawned sequels. It made stars of its cast as well.
The Plot
Coastal Amity is a lovely tourist destination until a swimmer is attacked by a shark. Fear strikes everyone as three men attempt to fins the shark and kill it - but the shark proves that it is just as clever as the men, if not more so.
The Cast and Performances
Spielberg's direction makes the jobs of the actors easier here by providing wonderful scenery and marvellous suspense, but the performances are still of a very high standard. Roy Scheider plays Police Chief Brody, and heads the mission to kill the shark. With him are Quint and Matt Hooper, played by Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss. There is wonderful chemistry between the three, and the characters form...

Great shark movie - better than Jaws
Review of Deep Blue Sea (Wide Screen) by
elspeth334
Advantages: Sharks seen like never before
Disadvantages: The plot is a little poor
...Deep Blue Sea is a great movie that brings sharks to the screen as never been before. When people think sharks they think Jaws well Deep Blue Sea is bigger badder and blows Jaws out the water. The film is cram packed with special effects and action so the chances of you falling asleep are nil. The best way of describing this movie is jurassic park with water - genetically engineered animals, underwater pens, attacks and of course people get eaten. In fact most of this movie is spent guessing who will die and who won't. Renny Harlin brings these incredible animals to the screen and believe me it doesn't disappoint. This disc is great with a superb picture and sound quality and all the exrtras you could possibly want - a wonderful buy....

Pleasantly surprised
Review of Deep Blue Sea (Wide Screen) by
JOSI78
Advantages: good effects, some moments kept you on the edge of your seat.
Disadvantages: not long enough.
...When I saw the trailers of this film I thought it would be another shark movie following in the Jaws tradition. However, I was in for a surprise as this was actually quite an entertaining film. The special effects were brilliant and very effective. The film is about a bunch of scientists who are researching a cure for Alchiemzer's Disease. They are using a group of SuperSharks to experiment on. However, disaster rears its ugly head as the crew are attacked by the sharks. There were some very edgy moments, especially LL Cool J's little bird, that got me scared (hahaha). I liked this film and would recommend it to those who like films where the animals are the predators....

Deep down and personal with JAWS
Review of Jaws 3 DVD by
mizz_scatty
Advantages: A great action packed thriller for all the family!
Disadvantages: The movie just isn't long enough!
...white shark is terrorising the beach, and as The Mayor clearly states just before the second attack, ‘Amity means friendship.’
There are 3 main characters. Matt Hooper- an expert on sharks and shark behaviour who has been called to Amity Island to help with the shark. Chief Martin Brody- the chief of police on the Island, he has recently moved from New York with his wife and 3 children. Quint- a well-known shark killer and Captain of the boat Orca.
The scariest and most frightening bit of the movie for me was the first attack. I found this the scariest because it was the most unexpected attack. Unlike the other attacks it was very straightforward. Because it was the first attack and it was right at the beginning of the movie it set the scene and introduced the plot very quickly...

The Original Shark Movie
Review of Jaws DVD by
liz1102
Advantages: Great sharks, even for such an old movie, without resorting to computer animation.
Disadvantages: Terrifying!
...to raise revenue for the year. This particular year, a 25foot great white shark has decided to make the sea around the beach its territory, which has of course, lead to a series of fatal attacks. While Police Chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) has the smart idea to close down the beaches, and take away the sharks dinner, the Major Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) has other ideas and tries to cover up the attacks. He also actively encourages people to use the beach, which, of course, leads to yet more attacks.
When hiding the truth is no longer an option, a task force of three men - a police chief, a marine scientist (Richard Dreyfuss) and somewhat crazy fisherman (Robert Shaw) - are set out on a mission to capture or kill the beast … before it kills them.
The words 'fatal', 'kill', 'attack' come up several times in any synopsis of Jaws...
