Salomon ST80 limited edition
Review of Salomon ST80 by duncbarton

Advantages: Good looks, great price, great overall performance.
Disadvantages: Only available in one size (8.5 UK).

...Last year (2000) Salomon announced the release of two new skates, the ST90 and the ST80. For some reason Salomon decided to scrap production of the ST80 and released the ST70 (a cheaper model) instead. Last summer Salomon decided to sell off all of there sample models of the ST80 so now these samples are available. Since these are sample skates they were only ever made in one size (uk 8.5) so if this size is too large or too small for you then forget about buying these skates as riding wrongly sized skates can be detrimental to the health of your feet. Out of the box these skates look amazing. The cool blue-grey colour used for the boot is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing of on any of the recent Salomon skates. This is highlighted by the white frame which gives the skates a very clean, stylish appearance. These skates come... Read review

Skiboarding
Review of Snowblading - General by DavidK4L

Advantages: The are really good fun, and can be taken seriously
Disadvantages: none

...To get rid of the myth that skiboarding and snowblading are different, they are basically the same. The difference is the comapny. Salomon make snowblades, all other companies make skiboards( companys such as line, groove, cannon.) Skiboarding or snowblading( as salomon calls it) is the newest extreme snow sport to hit the slopes. With 2 small skis (from 60 to 100cm) the skiboards are based on small snowboards. They are fatter than the average ski( agressive skiboards are anyways) and they are a lot easier to do tricks on. They are perfect for learning parrell turns as they are smaller it is much easier to lear. You can also get freestyle and speed boards which are a lot thinner that the agressive ones. The fatness of the boards allows for easier landing when doing tricks. Skiboarding is the new trend. They are so much fun... Read review

Hardwearing UFS skate
Review of Salomon st10 by aikon

Advantages: UFS, long lasting, cheap.
Disadvantages: ?

...The Salomon st10 is one of the new range of UFS (Universal Frame System) skates released by Salomon just before Christmas 2001. The st10 is the budget skate which they say as aimed at beginner to intermediate skaters and they cost £140. Looking at the skate there don't seem to be many differences between these and the previously released Feinburgs other than the colours and the wheel set-up. The skates come with a nice looking blue cuff and liner, white soul plates and black salomon UFS frames. The salomon liner is one of the most comfortable and long lasting liners around. The liner features coolfit so once you've worn them a few times the mold to the shape of your feet making them much more comfortable. The wheel set-up features a nice fast rolling set-up of salomons own ST 56mm/88a wheels with a nice set of ABEC 3 bearings. The UFS... Read review

I HAVE HUGE FEET YOU WILL DEFY THE MOCKERY
Review of Burton Floater by Kirsthun

Advantages: See Review
Disadvantages: See Review

...this snowboard is quite impressive. Let me tell you why in just a second. First off, the Burton Floater is especially designed for people with bigger or wider feet than other people have. I happen to have wide feet so I decided to give this board a try. Features -Prevents you from the dreaded toe drag. This is what happens when your feet or boot part of the snowboard get cault in the snow and could make difficulty turning or possibly falling over. -It can easily slide through the deeper snow/powder either one is an exception indeed for the Burton Floater. -Still remains very flexible and functional. -Made especially for longer/wider feet. -Makes cruising the sloaps easier, while avoiding falling over. -Stopping still remains very simple. Drawbacks All snowboards have drawbacks, and this one does also. -The Width of the board can make... Read review

Buy these Skates
Review of K2 - 250cc by Salomon

Advantages: Very strong, light, comfortable and parts are easily replaced
Disadvantages: anti bacterial footbed could be improved and wheels should be of a better standard

...Well, since i got these skates in January, I have improved no end. I did have a pair of Oxygens and since trying the K2's I have realised how good they really are, although the soul space is not as wide as some of my friends skates i.e Salomons the lock on is excellent and grinding is super smooth. The skates feel very stable and strong yet relatively light. They are very comfortable due to the 'soft boot' technology and upgrades are relatively cheap. These skates can live indefinately with all parts being replaceable. The downside is that for a pro - skate I would have expected more from the wheels, as I would have preferred better ones for example 'Senate' also the anti - bacterial footbed is not particularly effective after several months of use (but that might just be my feet!) Overall these skates are well worth buying... Read review

excellent for snowboarding
Review of Fujifilm Nexia Q1 APS by tottenham123

Advantages: simple, easy to use, small and light
Disadvantages: its no digital camera

...I brought this camera for a recent snowboarding trip, I didn't want to take a digital camera in case I dropped it in the snow, so I brought this relatively cheap APS camera. this camera is very simple to use and has some nice features. the on button is a slide switch, so when the camera is turned off it covers the lens and disables the shutter button. this basically means you cant take any pictures when the camera is in your pocket and you wont have a scratched screen either. when I was on my snowboarding trip I used ISO 400 films and I got some really excellent shots, they were clean, crisp and was no blurring, even when we were carving and spraying snow into the air. if anyone is going snowboarding and doesn't want to take their expensive digital camera then I would recommend this camera. I got it from boots for £39.99 but you can... Read review

expert low's the way to go!
Review of Salomon Women's Expert Low X-Terrain by Vickytoria

Advantages: Comfortable, quick to break in
Disadvantages: not waterproof, not breathable

...I work in a outdoor shop but I'm not a very outdoorsy person, I'm really fussy when it comes to footwear, and wouldn't really wear walking shoes or boots unless I really have to, Climbing a mountain for example. That was untill the Salomon expert lows came in delivery one day, walking shoes are normally bulky looking and not at all attractive but these are really nice, my ones are light grey, dark grey and black, they have mesh panels and suede panels with a rubber rand around the toe. The mesh panels are for breathabilitly, but they don't have a breathable or wickable lining, so my feet do get quite hot but a pair of wicking socks like coolmax normally sort that out, the downside of the mesh is that if it rains the water gets in easy as they don't have a waterproof lining, spraying them will make them resistant to water but stepping... Snowblading for all
Review of SKI - General by Bairsty

Advantages: Fun, ease of use, for everyone
Disadvantages: safety concerns

...One of the latest ski crazes is the "new school", short twin tipped skis for use all over the mountain. Well they dont come much shorter than blades, available in a variety of lengths and widths from 80cms up to 99.9cms with Salomon,K2 and Line being the main makes. The blades are fitted not with conventional bindings but with a fixed cam action that clamps onto the boot, and as there is no binding brake if they become unattached during a fall, an ankle strap is fitted to stop a long walk down the mountain to retrieve your ski. A dedicated blading boot is now available which is shorter and lighter, but traditional boots are fine. One difference with using blades is you dont need sticks, just use your arms for balance. So where can they be used?.. well apart from deep offpiste powder, just about everywhere. They are great for learning... Read review

No more rentals for me.
Review of Salomon X-Wave 9 by alexpreston

Advantages: Good quality boot
Disadvantages: Take a while to break in

...After years and years of renting boots I thought it was about time that I finally shelled out for my own pair of ski boots. Since I’ve been going every winter for the last few years I figured that I would make most of my money back within 4 to 5 years. I went down to my local ski shop and before long had paid about £180 for my new boots. They retail for more like £220 but fortunately for me they happened to be on sale! The boots have what is called a “3D Custom Fit Liner”. What this means is that when you have the boots fitted, the inner liner is custom shaped to your foot using a special machine that heats the liner. I felt like a bit of a ninny sitting their in the shop with my feet in a machine shaped liked a foot spa, but it’s good to know that the boots will be a very snug fit to my feet. As for the hard outer part to the boot... Read review

Snow in England
Review of Sheffield Ski Village by Kuli2

Advantages: I cant fault them
Disadvantages: It is a bit far out and up a massive steep hill

...and after I had paid the reasonalbe price they pointed out where to go to get my ski's/snowboard and my boots. The hire of the ski/snowboard and boots is all incorporated in with the price that you pay on the door. After a great time skiing there was a great cafe and bar where a variety of drinks and snacks could be bought. There was even a shop which sold all kinds of ski and snowboard equipment so if you want you could buy all your own equipment before you go again. The ski instructers are all very helpful and they give you top tips in skiing. A wide range of insturcter cater for the beginner to the near olyimpic competetor. The slope is great and anyone can go. The staff are very friendly and helpful and if you need some tips or advice you can just ask them and are too ready to help. The entire place is great!... Read review
