Advantages: amazing waves generated by computer!

...Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, this movie is based upon a 1991 real life disaster at sea. It starred George Clooney as Bill Type the captain of the swordfish boat Andrea Gail. Together with a group of fishermen, they agreed to take risk for another extra trip to pay off their debts. Upon returning, they encountered a huge storm which is generated using computer graphics. That is the most interesting part of the movie. You will be able to see the wonder of high tech computer used in this movie to generate the storm of the century. Storyline is actually on the average and the storm actually become the most amazing in the movie. Do watch this movie in the cinema and wonder at the extradinary storm!... Read review

..."The Perfect Storm" starring George clooney is certainly one of George's best. It is based on a true story which happened in 1991. A crew of fishermen have come back from a fishing trip dissapointed at their income for the fish they caught. They set out to sea again on the Andrea Gail. This time they go to a different place and catch a lot more fish. As they are about to set out back home they find out that there is a storm in their path. They decide to go for it anyway because they do not want to wait and let their catch go stale. During their journey home the storm gets worse and gets joined by two other storms making a triple header storm. You watch how they have to try and get through this powerful storm. ...I saw this film a couple of weeks ago. I am not a great fan of George Clooney ( I know, one of the few women) but he was pretty good in this true story of a film. It had some excellent effects, which are very convincing too. It made you think you were in the storm with them. Its a story about fishermen, who after arriving back after a trip, don't get the quota of fish they were supposed to, so the owner of the boat (Andria Gail) makes George (Who plays the captain of the boat) feel guilty, so then goes out in the boat again to try and catch more fish than before. While they are out at sea, the biggest storm hits the seas. It is actually two storms, and the reason it is caled "The Perfect Storm" is because the two storms collide and make it doubly worse. ...The pefect storm is all about a group of sord boat fishermen that go out in search of fish. The skipper, played by George Cluney, perswades his crew to go out on one last trip. The film starts with them coming back whith a poor catch and in turn not much money. Each member of the crew goes along for their own reasons. When they reach the feilds past teh great reef they fill upi their cold storage with fish but they incounter a problem which forces them to head back through the storm if they want to getthe money they came out for. They are not the only people lost in the storm, there is a yacht and a the crew of air rescue helicopter stuck in the storm. i found the end very depresing but good as it is very unexpected. they efects are stunning as you cant tell where the real waves stop and the computer imaged ones start. in all... ...'The Eye of the Storm', presented by Richard Madley is on ITV (although not at the moment!). But, when it is on, it's a very interesting programme. Normally filmed in America, where they tend to get the most extreme of weather, it films people who actually chases twisters and tornado's! Why do they do this? It baffles me why, but they obviously get a kick out of it! It's not just showing these storm chasers, the programme also offers other kinds of weather this globe we live in has endured. Some of the most amazing thunder and lightening storms have been filmed. This programme is just basic, down-to-earth, and very real weather from around the world. It may sound boring, but it has to be seen to be believed. The world is changing all the time, and so is our weather. 'The Eye of the Storm' shows the most extreme of weather... Read review

...The Perfect Storm is based on real events that occurred in 1991, when a huge storm was created by the convergence of three weather systems. Unfortunately, the film doesn't live up to the effects. Another George (ER) Clooney film fails to reach the heights of the fabulous Out Of Sight. Teaming up with his Three Kings co-star, Mark (Boogie Nights) Wahlberg,, Clooney as captain, of a sword fishing boat, the Andrea Gail, and Wahlberg the rookie crewman. The other crewman are additional characters so the movie has something to do while it waits for the storm. Given that the ending is known, I still found this film too predictable. Every incident was too formulaic, and you just knew what was going to happen. That said, the effects are superb, and the storm really is the star. Probably the best reason to make the effort to see... Read review

...This film, quite simply, is all special effects and no plot. Some scenes are spectacular to watch and often quite horrifying, but when there’s no storm, there is nothing to keep your attention to the film, and after a while, the whole thing gets boring. All the actors in this film are capable of much better things, but the money seems to have gone into making this visually spectacular. The one good thing about this DVD though is the extras, including a chance to know about the man whose name appears on almost every Hollywood soundtrack, James Horner.... Read review

...This is a perfect movie where the start introduces you to the characters then the centre portion of the film is crammed with action and astounding special effects the a perfectly rounded off ending. The action is excellant with the storm never letting up and the waves just getting bigger this film is one giant build up to the climactic 100 ft wave. The special effects portray the storm in a way never been seen before. It is nothing less than spectacular. The 100 ft wave is incredible and can only be done justice on the cinema screen so I highly recommend you see it while you still can.... Read review

...I will never forget this movie,the blistering effects and the cast as well is good. The great Wolfgang Petersen directs a good film about some fishermen who gets cought in the perfect storm. George Clooney is good as the veteran captain of the ship and Mark Wahlberg is impressive in the role of the beginner Bobby. The effects of this film is superb and the powerful music makes the storm even bigger and more scarier. You really get cought up in this film and and you`re catching you breathe every a big wave flushes over the ship. Like I said, a good film about the perfect storm. I give it a 8/10... Read review
