SUMMIT? JUST THE OPPOSITE!
Review of Summit Roma Hotel, Rome by
comdaily
Advantages: continental breakfast; outdoors swimming pool
Disadvantages: THE ENTIRE HOTEL BADLY NEEDS RESTORATION, REFURBISHING & SANITATION!
...I stayed at Summit from 14th to 16th May 2008. Location is TRAGIC. It is not in Rome, franklly speaking, it is hardly in Rome. Rather in some village. It takes 3 (THREE) hours to walk from Colosseum (and other places of interest) to Summit. Going by bus will hardly help as the bus runs once per hour. The place itself is easily recognizable by a smell of horseshit. There are marks of water on the walls and ceilings in all parts of the hotel. And it smells some past flood. The only advantage could be the swimming pool - but I saw no one there. The breakfast is served only from 7 am - even if we had to leave to Rome for the forum and conference (which, thank God, was not held at "Summit") at 7:45 already. The food is good but standard (the sausage, omelette, boiled eggs, cheese, ham, juice, coffee, pastries). The reception demands 100 EUR...

Perfect Place To Wind Down
Review of Summit Roma Hotel, Rome by
Modfather1963
Advantages: Cool Pool
Disadvantages: Distance From City Centre
...I have just returned from a week in Rome with my family (2 adults and our 8 year-old daughter). We stayed at the Summit hotel, which we booked after weeks of trawling the internet for a suitable base. We were pleasantly surprised!!
The Summit is some way out of the centre of Rome, but is a great place to relax after a long day traipsing around the many places of interest.
The large pool is a fine place to cool off, as I found out very quickly. My daughter and I spent many hours during the week just splashing around!!
The rooms are comfortable, with all the facilities you would expect, and the food served at the poolside restaurant was plentiful and tasty - At prices comparable with city centre eateries.
The hotel is situated 4 miles outside the city centre, but there are plenty of options for getting into town. A regular shuttle bus...

An excellent friendly hotel
Review of The Skiddaw Hotel, Keswick by
sjljersey
Advantages: Very Central Location
Disadvantages: At first - not easy to find
...park is at rear of the hotel
Arrival
The reception area of the hotel is very grand and welcoming, particularly after a days walking on the hills. Check in is quick and efficient, although the hotel does have one of the oldest lifts I have every encountered. Do remember to book for dinner when you arrive as the restaurant can be very busy.
Accommodation
The hotel offers 40 en-suite rooms with all the usual facilities. They also offer modern Summit rooms which offer extra luxuries such as bath robes, sparkling water and trouser press. They also have available four poster rooms. Prices for bed and breakfast range from £55 for a standard room, £61 for a summit room and £69 for a four poster or for £15 extra the rate can include dinner. However do check for any special offers they may have. Children under 12 sharing with parents on a bed...

The Earliest British Mountain Railway
Review of Snaefell Mountain Railway (Isle of Man) by
Coloneljohn
Advantages: fine views preserved trams
Disadvantages: hard seats
...outside the hotel where excellent views can be obtained. It is said that on a clear day you can see six kingdoms. England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Mann and Heaven.
The ride takes approx thirty minutes to complete. There is car parking space in Laxey and also off road at the Bungalow. There are foot paths here so that you could ride up and walk down, or walk up and ride down, or if you feel particularly energetic walk up and down from the Bungalow to the summit.
Now the Trams themselves are all enclosed and you will note that they have a roof mounted bow collector rather than a pole or a pantograph.
Again the seating is all wood and rather hard.
Costs are adult return £6.00 and single £3.00
As with the other railways, children are free when accompanied by an adult.
The service runs from April 26th to October 3rd daily at 10.15am to 03.45pm...

Come to Llandudno and Ride the T!
Review of Great Orme Tramway by
SusanLesley
Advantages: Fantastic views, history, good fun
Disadvantages: A bit draughty!
...the relaying of the entire track during the winter – not a job for the faint hearted, it gets pretty cold up on the Orme in the winter weather!
So what else is of interest?
When you reach the Halfway Station to change trams for the remainder of your journey you walk through the station where you can see the winding gear and machinery and there is lots of information about the Tramway and its history with some great old photographs.
The visitor centre at the Summit Station has lots of information about the Orme itself and its flora and fauna and it also has the light that was used in the Great Orme Lighthouse now a Hotel.
So would I recommend it?
YES, YES, YES!!!
It really is worth a ride if you want to get the top of the Orme. It’s a long steep walk and its 207 metres high so you’ll need to be fit to attempt it.
The views from the Tram over...

Discover The Beauty Of Artic Britain!
Review of Cairngorm Mountains, Inverness by
micksheff
Advantages: Fantastic Scenery, Plenty To See And Do
Disadvantages: It's A Long Drive To Get There
...Garten, managed by the RSPB.
WEATHER CONDITIONS
The air in this area is amongst the cleanest and purest anywhere in the UK, and snow remains on the summits throughout the year.
During the summer months these wide valleys between the Mountains can provide surprisingly good suntraps, but be warned because the weather conditions here can change rapidly and snow blizzards during even the summer months are not unusual.
It is for these reasons that venturing off the beaten track into the wilderness is only for those that are properly equipped and experienced.
ACCOMODATION
There are many places to stay within this area ranging from Campsites, where I spent many a happy holiday, to four and five star hotels, and the area is scattered with holiday cottages and chalets.
Most of the hotels are to be find within the popular towns of Aviemore...

Genting,An Entertainment and Gaming Haven
Review of Genting (Malaysia) by
ashford
Advantages: Good Entertainment,Lively, Good Food, Cool
Disadvantages: Garish,Not to Everyone's taste, Gambling is encouraged
...to Genting are readily available from Kuala Lumpur. There is also the Genting Skyway which carries some 2000 passengers per hour; the cable-car system operates from Goh Tong Jah near Batang Kali with a stop at Awana before ascending up to the summit at Highlands Hotel.
Genting has a robust, garish, character uniquely its own and while it's not everyone's cup-of-tea, it is a good, cool, haven for gaming and entertainment and only one hour's journey from Kuala Lumpur....

Marangu climb all the way to the top
Review of Mt Kilimanjaro National Park (Tanzania) by
mandyhaley
Advantages: The easiest way up the mountain
Disadvantages: Altitude, altitude, altitude
...In January this year we reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro on the Marangu route, the easiest way up the 19,344 foot mountain.
We took a package trip with Hayes and Jarvis, flying on KLM via Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro International Airport. This is our experience…
DAY 1. There was a short briefing session in the hotel, then we quickly packed our kitbag out of which we were to live for the next five days. An hour long journey by Land Rover took us to the National Park where we completed the registration formalities. We then waited for another hour or so whilst the porters were weighed in and sorted out.
And, then we were off. This first day’s walking was fairly easy. It took us up through rain forest from the park gates at 6400 feet to the Mandara Huts at 8850 feet.
DAY 2. After a breakfast of hot mashed...

Lift me up
Review of Cable Car Ride up Table Mountain by
KELLYLOUJ
Advantages: Fantastic Views, Safe, Reliable
Disadvantages: Not ideal for someone scared of heights
...My two favourite places in the whole wide world are Cape Town and Orlando mainly because they hold some fantastic memories, and as I am catching up on all of my reviews that I have been meaning to write I came across this one begging to be written.
Firstly I should explain about Table Mountain, for those of you not familiar with this breathtaking landmark.
The best views of Cape Town can be seen from the summit of Table Mountain with over 2km of pathways you can really experience this amazing place which is 1067 metres above sea level, the highest point is 1085m.
The Cable card ride is the quickest and easiest way to reach the summit taking between 5-10 minutes traveling at approximately 10 meters per second.
The Cableway was built on 4 October 1929 and since then has received 3 upgrades to ensure its safety.
The Cablecars take...

God's work at its very best
Review of The Great Orme - Llandudno. (Wales) by
SusanLesley
Advantages: Beautiful, majestic, varied
Disadvantages: None at all!
...and the Rectory Teagardens, which I can thoroughly recommend for their homemade cakes and a lovely cup of tea.
I will just say that if you use the Marine Drive around the base, which is a one-way road from the North Shore all the way round to the West Shore it is a toll road and will cost you £2. The cost does however cover parking at the car park next to the Summit Complex. As locals we have been able to buy an annual pass for £10 and whenever we go out we always come back round the Orme and we never get fed up with the views!
Half way round the Marine Drive is the Rest and Be Thankful Café. I haven’t yet attempted to walk the four and a half miles around Marine Drive but when I do I am sure that I will ‘rest and be thankful’ when I get there!
Another place of interest along the Marine Drive is the Lighthouse Hotel. This used to be a working...
