Reviews of supertramp
Dreamer
Review of Dreamer - Supertramp by
zef
Advantages: good song
Disadvantages: rubbish high pitched singing
...is this typical of supertramp one of those hage 1970s rock acts when all the band members are crusty types with beards who park their fags in the strings on machine head whilst picking out a dreamy solo. Yep these are crustys. Dreamer is an organ driven song. a very catchy tune. with high pitched vocals. You'll find it on 70's various compillations and Im sure it has paid for a nice little nestegg for the crusty supertramp people. The lyrics dont make you want to punch the air not really very inspiring at all really....

Supertramp- A Logical Spectacular!
Review of Retrospectacle (The Supertramp Anthology) - Supertramp by
lisacallow
Advantages: Jam packed, top-hits, a retrospective take on the developing sounds of an institutional band.
Disadvantages: Too many previous substandard compilations until now!
...With so many varied and eclectic tracks to date, Supertramp are suitable for definition as an institutional band, which is why their latest release is a refreshing compilation of sone of their biggest hit singles, as well as a few lesser known Top 30 integrations.
A British band formed in Geneva, Switzerland in 1969, Supertramp spawned a career that would span over three decades, and sales that would exceed 65 million worldwide. Their music can be described as an eclectic and comprehensive development, a mix of jazz, blues, pop and soft rock.
Supertramp have produced over 10 studio albums, as well as their live releases, which have all reached Gold and Platinum status. As a band, they have withstood the ever evolving music industry, and as a result increased in both popularity and success, which is why the release of Supertramp...

Soundtrack for a bummed-out city life
Review of Breakfast In America [Remastered] - Supertramp by
CrutcHead
Advantages: contains a halfway of hit singles
Disadvantages: too commercial?
...Being a major fan of SUPERTRAMP myself- I don't understand why many other Supertramp-fans consider it silly or even redundantly preposterous to say that this is the best Supertramp LP, and IS the album that makes it proper for one to start and be introduced with for the music of Supertramp! I got introduced to this album myself, and have become a big fan of SUPERTRAMP and Roger Hodgson ever since. Among the ten tracks in the album- 4 have become top ten hits: "Goodbye Stranger", "The Logical Song", the title track, and "Take The Long Way Home". However, contrary to what's being popularly claimed about the album that it is a commercial one, the album is not as that commercial at all, but perhaps the reason for it being reputed as to be so is maybe only because of its commercial success. The lyrics in the songs dabble mainly about getting...

Oh yes they do...
Review of Some Things Never Change - Supertramp by
Newfloridian
Advantages: Pleasant for background play
Disadvantages: Not the Supertramp we knew and loved
...Supertramp was one of those British groups that epitomised the 70s and 80s. They produced a string of classic albums (remember ‘Crisis, What Crisis?’ named after a chance remark by a politician of the day about the near bankruptcy of the country) and some memorable singles (‘Give A Little Bit’).
There was an attempted reunion in 1997 featuring Rick Davies and John Helliwell from the original group. This album marks that attempt. The full line up was Rick Davies (vocals, keyboard), Mark Hart (vocals, keyboard, guitar), John Helliwell (saxophone, woodwind), Cliff Hugo (bass), Bob Siebenberg (drums), Lee Thornburg (trumpet, trombone), Carl Verheyen (guitar) and Tom Walsh (percussion).
All songs were written by Rick Davies who was also lead vocalist.
The running order is:
It’s A Hard World
(Experimental sounds introduce the track...

Last from the classic SUPERTRAMP line-up
Review of Famous Last Words [Remastered] - Supertramp by
CrutcHead
Advantages: great production
Disadvantages: could use a few more numbers
...This albulm quite resemble a very dark atmosphere indeed. The last SUPERTRAMP lp to ever have Roger Hodgson before he'd gone out from the band to pursue his solo venture, (thus what is perhaps symbolically denoted by the vinyl disc's artwork where a scissor is used to cut a rope as with the album cover, including the inner sleeve where the band members are depicted as balancing themselves walking on thin lines) -it carries Hodgson's last and final hit single with the band "It's Raining Again", along with his seemingly autobiographical "C'est Le Von"* - which sort of serves as his swansong with the group (and for me is one of the best songs ever written by Hodgson, and one of my all-time favourite songs by SUPERTRAMP) that seems to echo the ongoing friction with his collaborator within the band- Rick Davies, who appears to counter...

Breakfast in America (Re-Mastered )
Review of Breakfast In America [Remastered] - Supertramp by
terriano
Advantages: a faultless pop album
Disadvantages: peoples perception of Supertramp
...Somewhere between the angry chaos of punk and the short lived glamour of disco the public in 1979 found time for Supertramp and their irresistable blend of adult themed rock with an emphasis on intelligent pop ,the bands sixth studio album finally delivered what the band had been promising for most of the seventies, with "Breakfast in America "they managed to hone their individual sensibilities to a near perfect blend ,ripe for American radio and Top of the Pops and shaking off their reputation for over indulgent pomp in the process, their previous two hits "Give a little Bit" and "Dreamer" hinted an intelligent humorous pop group in the vein of ,say, 10cc ,but real mainstream success had aluded them up to this point .
The albums introduction "Gone Hollywood"was classic Supertramp ,mediocre by the standard of things to come but it did...

Review of Secret Messages - ELO by
JOHNV
Advantages: Some reasonable songs
Disadvantages: A predictable retread of the old formula
.... On the other hand the title track sounds like a poor man's Supertramp, and "Train Of Gold" as if Jeff was still trying to rewrite "Evil Woman".
By now it was evident that basic ideas were being spread too thinly and that the group were past their best. Was it any coincidence that founder member and drummer Bev Bevan, having publicly voiced his frustration at lack of musical freedom, went and temporarily joined Black Sabbath of all bands a few weeks after release?...

Surprisingly unknown to so many
Review of Spilt Milk - Jellyfish by
tumblewheel
Advantages: Tracks: Russian Hill; Joining A Fan Club; Ghost At Number One; Bye, Bye, Bye
Disadvantages: Track: Brighter Day
...I was recommended this album by my brother-in-law as he knew that, at the time, I was listening to music by bands like the Beach Boys, Queen and Supertramp amongst others. It was a good recommendation. I loved the music and it's only recently that I bought a copy for myself.
Jellyfish: The Band
Jellyfish were an American band hailing from San Francisco at the start of the 1990s, playing indie rock / power pop music. During their brief existence, they released two studio albums; the debut is called 'Bellybutton' and 'Spilt Milk' is the follow-up album. The band broke up in 1994 due to 'creative differences' between the two founder members, Roger Joseph Manning Jr. and Andy Sturmer.
