ANGRY AZTECS
Review of The Angry Aztecs (Horrible Histories) - Terry Deary by
Joe_D_L
Advantages: Educational, easy to read
Disadvantages: none
...I used to love this series of books when I was in primary school a couple of years ago, it is easy to read and full of interesting and sometimes gruesome facts. I was only disappointed that my Primary School only had 1 or 2 books from the Horrible History series.
Separated into 9 chapters, including Introduction & Epilogue, and within each chapter are a number of sections, this book is easy to read & collect information from.
Intended for children from 8-11 it strongly goes against teachers and gives children the truth, no matter how gruesome, for example the Aztecs sacrificed 50,000 people a year, that's 1,000 a week, 6 every hour and 1 every 10 minutes, that's man, women & mainly children (because they are more innocent, so the Gods would prefer them)
It also tells you how the Spanish Conquistadors and how they brought small pox...

The tent for the small
Review of Eurohike 220 by
Kuli2
Advantages: The price
Disadvantages: The size
...I first purchased the Eurohike 220 about 2 years ago when I was going on a Duke Of Edinburugh expedition, the tent was light weight and it was very easy to carry on the expedition. Another reason I bought the tent was because it was so easy to erect. The poles easily located in the channels and it just popped up. The simple job of hammering in the pegs followed and then you could use it to your hearts content. This is the type of tent you need after you have been on a 15 mile hike, something that is easy to put up with no fiddeling.
The only problem with the tent is that it is too small it is about 5"8 long and now iam 6". This tent was a great tent and it served me well for the 2 years that it was in my possesion. The only problem now is finding a tent that will match it in price and in all of the other essential criteria...

Sun Safe
Review of Play Tents by
mandyco
Advantages: Offers UV protection
Disadvantages: None
...My sister lives in Great Yarmouth; she lives about a quarter of a mile from the beach.
In summer she spends a lot of the time on the beach (weather permitting), with her two children.
I wanted to buy a present that both children would get some use from, after pouring through the Argos catalogue; I spotted the new pop up tents.
I didn't think much of them, until I spotted a tent called The Pop Up Sunsafe Tent, straight away I knew this would make an ideal present for the children.
The Sunsafe Tent has exactly the same features as the ordinary Pop Up Tent.
It pops up in seconds; it's extremely compact and easy to store. The Tent is also shower proof, but not waterproof. It can be used indoors and outdoors.
The Sunsafe costs £2 more than the ordinary tent, but you get the added benefit of an UV resistant tent, it has a special...

Tent left in ruins by moderate wind
Review of Coleman Magellan 9 Tent by
JohnStrain
Advantages: Spacious
Disadvantages: Poles incapable of withstanding UK August weather, No spares, No response from Coleman
...After just 9 nights using this tent, we came back to our campsite in Cornwall in August to find it had completely collapsed under the wind (forecast at 26mph so hardly severe). 3 poles snapped (1 in 2 places) and 2 poles were bent badly. We scrapped our holiday. Coleman have not responded to emails and my local store tells me they don't hold spare parts like poles now they are made in China. Also they no longer make this tent. To start with we thought this was agreat family tent and were very happy, but this is the first time in many decades of camping in all sorts of conditions I've had a tent fail so badly and customer service is non-existant so beware!...

Barbarian Goddess
Review of Doctor Who - The Aztecs DVD by
ThePolarOne
Advantages: Strong story, dialogue and performances
Disadvantages: May be too character driven for some
...Doctor Who - The Aztecs (1964)
With the recent successful return of this TV series, I was prompted to revisit some of the shows classic adventures. The Aztecs could hardly be considered more classic, being from the first season of the show and the first DVD release from William Hartnell's era as The Doctor.
For those that are new to the series I shall explain it's basic premise. The Doctor is a time travelling alien with a pet fascination of Earth. He and a variety of companions travel through time and space in his TARDIS finding themselves in all manner of situations; often dangerous ones. The Doctor has minimal control over where they land (for reasons unexplained), but is clearly very intelligent and scientifically minded. His current companions are Barbara, Ian and Susan.
In this adventure, the TARDIS lands in an Aztec temple...

A serious tent for serious camping!
Review of VauDe Mark II by
photokeith69
Advantages: Easy up and down, light weight, OUTER UP FIRST!
Disadvantages: Rather expensive, suffers from condensation if zips fully closed
...I purchased a VauDe MkII lite over 1 year ago and have never looked back!
I put the tent up in the back garden as per the instructions that were easy to follow. When you first get the tent the inner is not attatched so you lay the outer on the floor and the elasticated frame is placed on top. The 4 corners of the outer are then inserted into the ends of the frame and the elastic of the outer easily clipped onto the frame.
The inner is then attatched and can stay this way for the life of the tent!
In use the tent is a roomy 2 man with ample space for kit or tight fitting 3 man. This tent has a huge hydrostatic head, meaning that it is very water proof. This does however bring it's own problems. The tent is coated in silicone which, although water resistant is not breathable. As such, when camping in warmer climates...

Errected in one minute
Review of Khyam Vector by
joncr
Advantages: QUICK to put up, lightweight
Disadvantages: A little stuffy.
...This tent really does go up in a minute. I bought the tent on this reason alone. I’ve spent to many times arriving at a camp site at dusk and fighting against the light, trying to remember where I put the pegs and hoping I don’t have the tent inside out. Sound familiar?
The tent is water proof, light weight and is very easy to carry in a small bag with handles that don’t cut into your hands – another common failing with tents. This is most handy for those long trips from the festival car park to the camping area.
The only problem I have found is that it’s a little hot in the morning. The ventilation is in the roof but doesn’t seem to ventilate enough to clear a hangover at a festival but then again, what does?
The tent comes with a patch kit and seam sealant. These are small enough to carry...

Gelert Rocky 2 - Fantastic Little Tent
Review of Gelert Rocky 2 by
bluestar666
Advantages: Lightweight, Easy to Erect, Great Value
Disadvantages: Porch uncovered when front door open
...I bought this tent for a 2 night stay for just myself to use. I bought it from Go Outdoors for just £25 although other websites and shops sell them at a little more than this, most of them retail at around £35.
First of all it comes in a neat little carry bag which took up hardly any room at all in my car!!!
I decided not to attempt putting up the tent before i went away as i normally do so i have some idea of how it goes together!! I decided it shouldn't be too difficult as it was only small....i was right, it was easy to put up and didn't take long at all. For a two man tent it has a good sized storage area or porch at the front. The ground sheet in the porch is also sewn in which saves extra faffing once the tent is up.
I could easily lie down in the tent and another person would easily have fitted in there with me too...

You wouldn't like me when I'm angry...
Review of The Angry Aztecs (Horrible Histories) - Terry Deary by
CaptainDisaster
Advantages: Some interesting facts and figures...
Disadvantages: ... not as well written or interesting as others in this series of books...
...The Angry Aztecs is another in the popular “Horrible Histories” range of books aimed at children, but which can also be quite fun and enlightening for we older ones. They’re a really easy read but despite their slim volumes, inclusion of cartoon illustrations and appeal to the kiddies, they contain a mine of intriguing information about past civilisations and suchlike. Of course, with a name like “Horrible Histories” you expect a certain amount of gore… which the books gleefully deliver.
All the Horrible Histories are written by Terry Deary, who obviously has a real passion for bringing history to life. In this book, "The Angry Aztecs", he starts off by giving us some information about the Mayan and Olmec people –the previous great civilisations before the Aztecs became great. A great mystery surrounding the Maya is the fact...

A very light small tent
Review of Coleman Inyotm 2 Tent by
alimason
Advantages: small and therefore warm, light, easy to put ip
Disadvantages: little headroom, not good in extreme cold
...A very good tent indeed. I have used this tent on many 2,3,4 and 5 day trips and it has prooved very good. It is easy to assemble with only 2 poles and can easily be done by one person in only 3-4 minutes. I have also put mine up in gale fore winds with driving rain at 2 in the morning on Dartmoor. It is also very spacious and when hiking it is perfect for 2 people and all their kit. I was also pleasantly surprised by the fact that the tent does not create much condensation, in fact very little and the numerous inside pockets and twin vestibule areas are very useful for essential kit and cookin, respectively. The tent is also very light at under 5lb it makes little impression on your pack. It also has another advantage of being used as a single sheet tent, prefect for on the beach or just as a sun shelter. One minor disadvantage...
