On Xmas Santa gave to me......
Review of ThinkPad T30 2366 - P4-M 2 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
Spiders
Advantages: The most flexible and powerfull laptop out there
Disadvantages: the price
...I wish Santa would have left that little toy under the tree but no luck, maybe next year.
IBM as made a name for itself in the laptop insdustry for leading the pack. Their machines are all work, no fun though, which as made them a favorite for business users.
The Thinkpads T30s are IBM Thin-and-light series which is supposed to be a compromise between power and portability. Well in fact the only limit to the power you can have in this little thing is how deep your wallet is. the prices range from a 1500 L to 3500 L.
the difference is mainly the hard drive, the screen definition either 1400x1050 or 1024x768 (all models are 14.1" by the way) and the options (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, CD/DVD writer combo, ibm security chip) all in all in a neat little package of 2.5 Kg.
the top models are powered by an ATI Radeon 7500 with 16 Mb of dedicated...

Nice little thing. Shame about the drivers.
Review of ThinkPad i Series 1400 - C 500 MHz - 13" HPA by
Manx
Advantages: It is fast, nippy and good looking
Disadvantages: It is a computer
...There is always a catch. Always.
Don’t get me wrong. This little ThinkPad is a gem of technology. It really is portable but its not one of those ‘laptops’ that force you to use the end of pencil to press the keys. No, the ThinkPad is just the right size.
Speaking of size, I shall say that the memory that comes with it is not too shabby either. It will be filled up, of course, being used up is the fate that all memory is cursed to suffer, however, in value for money terms the specs for the ThinkPad do nicely.
IBM is a large company to. IBM is doing everything it can to claw back to its once mighty position in the computing market and when you contact them you can tell that straight away. They will bend over backwards to help you.
As a general user I have no complaints at all.
As a general user, that is. I work in I.T. and I had...

Laptop Heaven
Review of ThinkPad T20 PIII 750 MHz - 14.1" TFT by
mc_bubba
Advantages: Titanium covers, light, fast.
Disadvantages: Burns a hole in your wallet, looks black and dull.
...First Thoughts
Well, as I stared at the ThinkPad, my first thought was that this thing is pretty plain. After all, it was totally black and it looked nothing like the Sony VAIO. To tell you the truth, it looked like a cheap laptop. However, once I opened it, I “turned on the fun.”
Processor
The ThinkPad T20 is supported by an Intel Pentium III processor that has 750 Megahertz. In addition, it is also supported by Intel’s SpeedStep technology that also increased the speed of the ThinkPad’s processor. When opening files and documents, it was pretty quick unlike many other laptops.
Memory
With 128 MB of RAM, the ThinkPad T20 is quite impressive. Now you could have the power of a desktop in the size of a notebook.
Screen
With a 14.1” screen monitor, you shouldn’t worry about squinting...

The T42 - a good all round machine
Review of ThinkPad T42 2373 - Pentium M 735 1.7 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
foxuk
Advantages: Slim, very light, IBM cachet, good screen, fantastic keyboard
Disadvantages: Build quality perhaps, ticking hard drive
.... My T-41 had a similar spec drive, but it was a Fujitsu one and didn't tick. The T42 has a Hitachi Travelstar drive. Both were made around the same time, according to the IBM site. My T42 seems to have had a rather long shelf time. While we're on hard drive issues, I've also heard rumours that a lot of the T-42's made in 2005 have hard drives going bad and having to be returned to base for replacement. Just google it, and you'll probably come up with something.
I've been a fan of IBM thinkpads for a while now, having had the T30 and the T41 before this one. I resisted from buying the T43 (the T60 is out of my price range anyway) since online reviews don't really rate it very high. The first thing you do notice when you take it out of the box is how flimsier it is than the other 2 models. I mean flimsier, and not flimsy. After all the T42...

Thinking of a Thinkpad?
Review of ThinkPad T40p 2373 - Pentium M 1.6 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
nattinoo1970
Advantages: Light, flat and compact
Disadvantages: Being Black
...I had wanted a laptop for years but never had the courage to actually take the final step of buying one. Even after looking at countless different brands and models I still chose a desktop PC!
At a new job I was given a Thinkpad T43. I found it incredibly easy to use, and as I was splitting my time between the office and home was having to carry it around with me.
After months of using the laptop my desktop PC at home died and I decided to try and replace it with a Thinkpad. Because I was on a restricted budget and couldn't afford a new laptop I decided to see what was available second-hand. I was overjoyed to find a company on ebay that sells refurbished Thinkpads and bought mine a good couple of months ago. So I now have 2 laptops to use - 1 for work and 1 for personal use.
The Thinkpads are light for a laptop, very flat (a lot...

The king of bargain laptops!
Review of ThinkPad 600E - PII 400 MHz - 13.3" TFT by
benham
Advantages: Reliable, preforms well about what you expect! Modular drives
Disadvantages: Specs apear to be "Defunct"
...review, I am a student, and the ThinkPad never gets more strenious use than word-processing and web surfing, but at the student end of things, what more could I want a laptop for. The stability of running XP on a geriactric ThinkPad is incredible, never once has the machine had a full hardware crash, and with a boot up time of no more than 100 seconds, its the best £150 I've ever spent.
IBM as ever have put reliability top of the list, and the rubberized casing, and whats this..? a trackball, yes the ThinkPad was one of the last brands of laptops to use the now completlely defunct trackball, over the obligitory touch pad. This can be a bit of a nucience when you first discover the old ThinkPad series, but as someone who has owned quite a few newer laptops it does have the advantage that you don't "lean" on the pad whilst you...

The IBM ThinkPad 240 - A sub-£200 gem?
Review of ThinkPad 240 C 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by
mattyprice4004
Advantages: Small size, Lights, Looks smart!
Disadvantages: Some say it looks bland, Small size limits functionality
...Watching the ICT market depresses me. Only a couple of short years ago I invested in the biggest desktop hard disk drive I could ever find - A roomy 120GB Seagate. Now we are up to 750GB, yet these cost only half of what I paid for my drive.
The same is the story with the ThinkPad 240 - I remember when these were £1,699 brand new. Luckily I never bought one new, but I did receive one second hand a few months ago.
This is probably my first review where I have a few serious issues with a product, as the 240 did leave a lot to be desired.
But let's start with what's good. The first thing that will attract a lot of potential buyers to this laptop is it's diminutive size. It truly is amazing how IBM have managed to squeeze a full laptop into such a small case. The screen has a resolution of 800x600 pixels, which is enough for office work...

IBM T23 2647 Thinkpad.
Review of ThinkPad T23 2647 - PIII-M 1.13 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
Ronnie-Taylor
Advantages: Enterchangeable CD drive, to Extra HDD, Handy IR Port.. Useful for data transfer.
Disadvantages: Both System Board & Disk Drive Failures.
...A very capable laptop, which gets used every day. With lots of handy features. Such as the removable CD, Floppy Drive. Great if you purchase the Cradle for an extra HDD. Which makes Backups simple! The extra large LCD display, makes your Home PC almost extinct. Also the battery is easily removable. It has a double USB port on the back along with the Com Ports and Mouse Port. Which I don’t really use because of the touch control in the centre on the keyboard.
Also having the IR port on the left is hand for mobile phone data transfer. The laptop arrived in a smart carrying case. With lots of extra cables for Token Ring Connection and other bits & bobs, including the instruction manual.
On the negative, the hard disk died after about 14 Months use, then a week after the system board failed. But on the whole, I would purchase again...

For Business purpose
Review of ThinkPad R50 1829 - Pentium M 1.5 GHz - 15" TFT by
waiho
Advantages: Stable
Disadvantages: Heavy
...I have been setup 30 piece of IBM R50 thinkpad for a new company. Basically what happen is I encounter IBM have thier own software install when the brand new R50 delivery to the customer. The most rediculors things is the IBM software use up 3 GB space which not inluded the Operating system. Which mean this R50 come with 40GB harddrive, user only will have 30GB to use, the rest is software usage.
Come to the point of hardware issue. This product come with centrino 1.5 and built-in WIFI.
Everything is solid look and reliable.
Boot up is not as fast as what you think after all the personal software installation which use for startup program. Make you feel like not a 1.5 centrino product.
I do not advice home user getting this laptop is because you will get bored of the look. If you insist to get a IBM. I would advice you to get a T41p...

IBM ThinkPad T23 2647 review
Review of ThinkPad T23 2647 - PIII-M 1.13 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
dcs3226
Advantages: Reliable and solid workhorse that won't let you down
Disadvantages: No wirless, needs more USB ports
...Not the newest system on the market, but if you can get a decently priced second hand version it is well worth it. I have worked on this for a couple of years now both in an office environment and on the road and it has never let me down. Enough grunt so you do not feel as though you should have gone for the desktop option rather than a laptop. Yet, portable enough to be carried every where and not have to worry about the occasional knock.
The screen is great and can even be viewed from the side. It is also large enough so, if you need to present directly from the screen, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
I personally am not keen on the "nipple" style mouse pointer but then I don't like touchpads either, so I would always recommend carrying a proper mouse.
The lack of enough USB ports, though a disadvantage, can obviously...
