Advantages: Superb Acting

...I like Nick Nolte. Even through his rough manner - personally and on the big screen. He is an exceptional actor, and this part he plays in Affliction is one of his best. Affliction is a movie based on a novel (of the same name) written by Russell Banks. It is said to be a somewhat autobiographical story about Russell Banks’ own life and his own problems that he had to deal with when he was growing up. ~~The Story~~ Quote at the beginning of this movie: "This is the story of my older brother's strange criminal behavior and disappearance. ...When I rented this on dvd from Blockbuster, I had mixed feelings. I am an old romatic and love romantic comedies but I could not imagine Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock playing leading roles in the same film. I kept an open mind and I was pleasantly surprised. Hugh Grant plays George Wade, the owner of the Wade Corporation and a bit of a cad when it comes to the women. Sandra Bullock plays Lucy kelson, a lawyer who is completely against the Wade Corporation and what they do, she is also aware of George Wades reputation as a serial womaniser. When she finds out that Wade are going to tear down the community centre she knew as a child she goes to ask George about the possibility of not tearing it down. Unbeknown to her, he is actually interviewing for a new attorney for his company. She takes a bit of persuading but eventually says 'Yes... Read review

...Who else could play the meanest mutha on the streets of New York other than Samual L Jackson. He brings all the coolness and attitude you need to the role. The film is not a remake of the original and more of an update. The Shaft in this film is actually the nephew of the orignal Shaft who also appears in the film. The story basically involves the murder of a young black man by a white yuppie Walter Wade (Bale). Because of his wealth and power he manages to evade justice which annoys shaft and makes him lose his faith in the justice system. It's time to bring Wade down. The only preson who can send Wade down is the love witness, a waitree (colette) who has gone into hiding after being threatened by Wade.
