Walk Away
Review of Poems of Love by
Gevaudan
Advantages: Its written as a song
Disadvantages: It has no tune and may be a wee bit offf topic - we'll see.
...Walk Away
The thoughts are rushing through my head
I don't know what to do
I sit here, my soul weighed by lead
My mind is fixed on you.
And I know that I should hold my nerve,
Hold your gaze and speak my mind.
But still I think you'll break my heart,
While trying to be kind.
And I walk away,
Can't face it any more.
So I walk away,
My hand reaches for the door
And I walk away.
Though inside I'm still not sure.
I walk away, walk away, walk away.
I walk away.
Although it hurts to say goodbye,
Grit my teeth and follow through.
Salve your conscience with my every lie,
When I say that its not you.
Close myself off from all of the world,
My life fades to grey and black.
I'm in pain with every step I take,
But I won't be coming back.
And I walk away,
Can't face it any more.
So I walk away,
My hand reaches for the door
And I walk away.
Though...

The walking stick
Review of walking sticks by
The_Splatter_Of_Matter
Advantages: Can take wieght of feet, easier to climb hills
Disadvantages: General annoyance to carry around when finished using
...I'd never used a walking stick before because I had never generally needed to, but I had an expedition coming up so I decided to give them a go. I had my walking stick, I had my route ahead of me and so I set off. I decided to test out the walking stick on a variety of different terrains - Tarmac, a dirt path, grass and a hill.
As I walked along each of these, with and without the walking stick I noticed that the walking stick really only made a difference after a while on Tarmac and the dirt path, it let you rest most of your weight into it instead of putting it all into your feet, which is a good feature. The problem with it is that until you need to take the weight off your feet you're stuck with carrying a 3-5 foot long stick, which you may not use for a while.
Grass was a different story, while walking through thick, long grass...

Levada Walk Madeira
Review of Levada, Funchal, Madeira by
CHAOS1979
Advantages: Beautiful Scenery, Numerous Tour operators
Disadvantages: Best not tackled alone unless experienced walker.
...The levada in madeira, are an intregal function in the islands crop production, diverting mountain water all over the island through a series of channels ( levadas). Pretty cool huh? Well along all the levadas are small walk ways as the locals used to use it for transporting goods around the island too...
I have been on a couple of these walks and did both extremes, the first walk was one that is widely used by tourists, and is pretty easy going. The views across the volcanic mountains are amazing and the constant smell of eucalyptus was a welcome surprise, it also make a kind of bluey haze, well its did when i was there, but it was mid summer. The walk led to a view point, I cant for the life of me remember the name of it ( shame you cant add pics on here) but...wow, even better there was a random local in the middle of nowhere...

The most disturbing book i've ever read
Review of The Long Walk - Stephen King by
Dilan_Spike
Advantages: Horribly fascinating
Disadvantages: Only if you strongly dislike short stories
...and are out of the walk. There is only one winnier, 99 boys will recieve tickets before the end of the walk and the bets on who it will be are the largest in the world. If you attack another competitor you get a ticket, if you try to run away you get a ticket, if you get cramp you get a ticket, if you faint you get a ticket; This is of course after you've recieved your three warnings. The boys must walk non stop through night and day, wind and rain, there is no mercy.
How does that grab you, pretty warped eh?
Of course getting your ticket means death....

Studland Beach and Nature Reserve
Review of General: England by
sarah_stitch
Advantages: Fine beaches
Disadvantages: Limited Parking and amenities
...Studland Beach and Nature Reserve
Fine sandy beaches stretch continuously for 3 miles from South Haven Point to the chalk cliffs of Handfast point and old harry rocks, and includes shell bay and a designated nudist area.
The heathland behind the beach is a national nature reserve and a haven for many rare birds and other forms of wildlife.
You can walk dogs along the beach and through the nature reserve, but beware of walking through the nudist beach, as it has been known to see more than just naked people sunbathing (if you catch my drift).
There are several nature trails through the dunes, well worth walking through.
The only downside is the lack of public amenities, such as toilets and very few places to eat or drink.
Access to the beach by road from Swanage or Corfe Castle, limited parking, alternatively you can travel from...

A Park built for a King!
Review of Kings Park & Botanic Garden, Perth by
Allyalcock
Advantages: views across Perth city and Swan River, free.
Disadvantages: None
..., this allows you to walk across the tops of the Eucalypt trrees and gives fantastic views across the city and the rivers. This walk takes about 40mins return from the Visitors Centre.
- The Law Walk - 2.5km loop through bushland, allow 45 mins.
- Kokoda Track Walk - a tribute to Australian troops who fought in Papua New Guinea in 1942-43. Climb up 150 steps and end up at the War Memorial.
- Memorial Walk - 1.7km (allow 1 hr) walk though 14 meorials of Australians in battle. Pick up a brochure of this walk at the Visitor's Centre before you leave so you know what you are looking at along the way!
The Park itself is a great way to escape the city life even though you are still only a few miles away from the city centre! It gives fantastic views across the city and across the rivers but is the perfect place to relax, have a picnic, walk...

Nicer than walking along the main road
Review of Cannon Hill Park by
Danieru
Advantages: The statue with the people and the cannon looks amusing from a certain angle
Disadvantages: No dogs?
...I've walked through Cannon Hill Park a good few times on my way to work, and back home again. I've also spent several lunch hours in there, eating my sandwiches on a bench by the boat lake. There's a pack of facilities available (at this time of year, anyway), though I've never really made use of any of them. They've got lots of paths to walk down, lots of grass to lie on, and lots of bushes to lurk in. I was last in there at the start of the school summer holidays, and so were lots and lots of screaming children. It's just over the road from Edgbaston Cricket Ground if that matters to you, and there's the Mac cinema (which fancies itself as a bit of an arty one) at one edge. I'm told there's also a miniature re-creation of the Lichfield Valley, but I've not noticed that (having taken more or less the shortest route each time I've walked...

Mountain Buggy Terrain Single
Review of Mountain Buggy Terrain Single by
spottydogs
Advantages: Truly all terrain, well built, light, comfy
Disadvantages: None
...I wanted a buggy that would stand up to walking regular long walks in the New Forest with my two dogs. This buggy surpassed itself, it is truly all terrain and has even been on mountain walks in Snowdonia! It easily goes over tree roots, gravel, through shallow streams, across heather, through mud, along a shingly beach & more and because it is like a hammock - comfy for my daughter. The tyres are puncture proof and are quick release. I just jet wash it down when I get home and its as good as new. The covers come off & are machine washable too. My daughter has been in this pram since she was a newborn - I used a sheepskin liner and strap covers and she was snug as a bug in a rug - especially in the cosy toes in the winter, she is now 3 and we don't use it as much as she wants to walk everywhere - but it can be used up until 4 years old...

Blue Mountains
Review of General: New South Wales by
MattSlat
Advantages: Quiet, Spectacular
Disadvantages: Not enough for a long trip
...If you are staying in Sydney and want a break from the hustle and bustle, take a day trip to the Blue Mountains.
Only a short train journey away but it feels like a different world!
The spectacular scenery and fresh country air make the Blue Mountains a really nice retreat, I had a very pleasant stay at the Katoomba YHA, where a double room was less than $40.
Katoomba as a place isn't anything special, but a short walk away the gondola and three sisters are big attractions.
Take a pleasant walk through the countryside and soak in the quiet atmosphere....
