Advantages: Can take wieght of feet, easier to climb hills

...I'd never used a walking stick before because I had never generally needed to, but I had an expedition coming up so I decided to give them a go. I had my walking stick, I had my route ahead of me and so I set off. I decided to test out the walking stick on a variety of different terrains - Tarmac, a dirt path, grass and a hill. As I walked along each of these, with and without the walking stick I noticed that the walking stick really only made a difference after a while on Tarmac and the dirt path, it let you rest most of your weight into it instead of putting it all into your feet, which is a good feature. The problem with it is that until you need to take the weight off your feet you're stuck with carrying a 3-5 foot long stick, which you may not use for a while. ...Well how disappointed I was with the Walk of Fame. On T.V it looked all glossy and exciting. When we actually got to Hollywood we walked around for a while. We actually had to ask where the Walk of Fame was to our surprise we were already on it. The pavement or sidewalks as they call it were grotty, some of the stars were dull not all shiny like on T.V and the magazine pictures.When we walked further on we got the the Chinese Manns Theatre, there were a few more but it was so crowded you couldn't even see beneath your feet properly. Very disappointing. I found Hollywood a little bit intimadating, quite a few bums around roaming the streets.The shops were a little tacky, people were selling tours and maps to visit the streets of the rich and famous. No thanks not for me.... Read review

...For an unusual activity try walking on water - or the nearest you can get to it. The walks start at Arnside in Lancashire and crosses Morcombe Bay to Kents Bank near Grange over Sands in Cumbria. The area is famous for it's sand flats which are crossable at low tide, the only problem being the quicksand which is where the guide comes in. Dating back to the middle ages when the monks made their pilgramage to Cartmel Priory they saved a days travelling by crossing the sands. In later years the monarch appointed an official guide to lead travellers across and these more recently have become sponsored walks in aid of charity. We completed a walk recently in aid of Lions charities and nearly 500 people turned up and all completed the walk which can be 9 to 10 miles depending on where the quicksand is. ...This is one of the best documentary programmes that the BBC has ever shown as it is so detailed and highly researched you feel the creatures are real. Your average documentary involves going to Africa picking an animal and filming it. This is why Walking with dinosaurs is so good because they don't exist. The special effects are mind blowing and really recreate these ferocious and incredible creatures. It is so realistic you feel like you walk, sleep, eat and swin with the dinosaurs. This is one of the best documentary programmes ever made.... Read review
