Reviews of winter's tale
Except for references to the oracle.
Review of The Winter's Tale - William Shakespeare by
SOPHIC
Advantages: One of his great work.
Disadvantages: n.
...It is rather difficult to determine for various reasons the exact date of composition of a Shakespearean play. However in the case of THE WINTER’S TALE the difficulties are not so very overwhelming. Simon Forman recorded having seen a performance of it at the Globe on May 15, 1611.
THE WINTER’S TALE is a fable about the destructiveness of passion and the healing power of time.
THE WINTER’S TALE illustrates Shakespeare’s view of human situation in his post dark tragedy period.
The appeal of THE WINTER’S TALE lies in its violation of the “unities”.
In THE WINTER’S TALE the tragedy is transformed into a romance.
The evil of passion of jealousy reigns till the end of the play Othello while it reigns only in the beginning of the play THE WINTER’S TALE.
THE WINTER’S TALE is a comedy hovering on the brinks of tragedy.
THE ATMOSPHERE...

Rebecca's Tale - A voice from beyond the grave.
Review of Rebecca's Tale - Sally Beauman by
melaniepither
Advantages: Gripping storyline and realistic characters
Disadvantages: It's highly addictive!
...I have always enjoyed reading Daphne Du Maurier's book Rebecca so when I came across this sequel to it I snapped it up as something to read while I was on holiday.
The story is set twenty years after the inquest into the death of Rebecca De Winter and the subsequent fire which destroyed the De Winter's mansion, Manderley, forcing the owner Maxim de Winter and his second wife into exile abroad. It is told from the points of view of three characters - Colonel Julyan, a friend of the de Winters and a retired JP, his daughter, Ellie, and a young man by the name of Terrance Grey who, knowing about the Colonel's links with the De Winter family asks him to provide some information on Rebecca which he finally reluctantly agrees to do.
The storyline really takes off when Mr Grey makes an interesting discovery at Rebecca's old boathouse which...

The snow.
Review of Everything that starts with S ... by
christina44
Advantages: looks pretty play in it
Disadvantages: freezing,slippery can be dangerous
...-upon the regimented lines bringing softness harshness...and smiles.
Everywhere,the silent white, billows like
little plops of pattering dots..
How I wish I had a magnifying glass!
to sigh and gasp the wonders, the intricate patterns of nature..and beauty undefiled, yet,by human hand.
praise god! praise him for variety,in all its' spheres...
Would the rabbit,the lark,the robin,run?
spinning down, down towards ground, barren bare by winter.
I wonder what they think?
A winters' tale beside the gleamming tree tops.
Behind the cobwebbed ditch,glistening glittering..
Laced and framed, making me smile and cuddle up dreaming..with Basil,my dog, fast asleep...
How white and pretty and silent the soundless sleep of winter!
Thankyou for reading....

A Winter's Tale
Review of Poetry by
proxam
Advantages: It rhymes
Disadvantages: It rhymes
...With all this snow and ice around, perhaps we should heed the warning in this precautionary tale.
Rose's nose is glowin' brightly
tippy-toes she dances sprightly
eager she to be at school
on this dreary morn
Rose's nose is runnin' wild
dreepin' snotters och poor child
happy girl she sings and skips
never looks forlorn
Rose's toes is freezin' throbbin'
lesser bairns would soon be sobbin'
not this lass she's stronger yet
than many braver men
Rose's toes is feelin' numb
hirplin' pain she wants her mum
classroom beckons runnin' late
get a move on then
blindly runnin' puffin' pantin'
steppin madly ragin' rantin'
steady lass an' have a care
for late is not the worse
Shinin' coldly bright wet ice
hard and slippy not so nice
careful Rosie watch your step
or you'll go heed ower erse
Through the air she flaps an' flies...

Gorgeous David
Review of Greatest Hits - David Essex by
sungold98
Advantages: All the old songs are there
Disadvantages: Too many of the newer songs
...This CD is a must for any ageing David Essex fan. The picture on the cover is enough to make any girl go weak at the knees! Look at those beatiful blue eyes- yummy! I keep the CD propped up next to my computer so I can look at him ....aawwww
But enough of that- what about the music?
This CD is a greatest hits record, and that's what it delivers. All the favourites are here:
Rock On
Gonna Make You a Star
Lamplight
Hold Me Close
Stardust
America
Rolling Stone
If I Could
City Lights
Oh What a Circus
Silver Dream Machine
Heart on my Sleeve
Me and My Girl
Falling Angels Riding
Missing You Magic

Winter Solstice Warms the Heart
Review of Winter Solstice - Rosamunde Pilcher by
Pelenya
Advantages: Characters are likeable without being sickeningly perfect
Disadvantages: Wish there had been an expansion of other story lines in book
...Just two days ago, I finished reading Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher. I had looked forward to Ms. Pilcher's next book with great anticipation, and I was certainly not disappointed.
This book centers around Elfrida Phipps, an aging actress, whose career was never stellar; however, she lived a somewhat Bohemian lifestyle with pleasure and few expectations. After the death of her lover, Ms. Phipps decided to leave London for a quieter, more peaceful life in the town of Dibton. There, she purchases a tiny cottage and settles into rural living with ease and elegance. She makes many friends, most importantly Oscar Blundell, his wife Gloria, and their daughter Francesca.
When Oscar Blundell's wife and daughter are tragically killed in a motor accident, it is Elfrida who is faced with the task of helping Oscar cope with his loss...

Winter isolation
Review of Winter Moon - Dean Koontz by
Pobs
Advantages: Well written
Disadvantages: American heroes
...If you have ever read any books by Dean Koontz you’ll already know just how weird this guy’s imagination is, if not, then you’re in for a journey into a dark and twisted landscape that is the sole preserve of chiller-thriller writers.
Winter Moon tells the story of a policeman (Jake) and his family who live in Los Angeles. After Jake is involved in an horrific gun fight whilst out on patrol, he and his family face the long haul back to financial and emotional security. Meanwhile Eduardo, the father of Jake’s old partner Tommy (who was killed in another gun fight), is facing a fight all of his own, one that is infinitely weirder than anything Jake could encounter on the streets of LA, and one that will prove to be a fight to the death.
This spells a brief period of good luck for Jake and his family, as after Eduardo’s death, they get...

A dark tale
Review of Peter Pan in Scarlet - Geraldine McCaughrean by
bluenosesquonk
Advantages: Beautifully written
Disadvantages: None
...Imagine a wonderful holiday where everything was exciting and you were always happy. Imagine, then always wishing that you could go back and recreate that experience and those feelings. But what would it be like if you actually went back only to find that things had changed so much that the place had changed so much it had turned into a bad dream - this is Neverland as it was when the Lost Boys and Wendy returned for their new adventure.
The adventurers returned to the place of their dreams after a number of 'signs' had suggested that things were not quite right and that their help wou | | |
