Review of The Winter's Tale - William Shakespeare by
SOPHIC
Advantages: One of his great work.
Disadvantages: n.
.... This is how Shakespeare usually adheres to “poetic justice”.
SOME IMPROBABILITIES:
In the end we may note a number of improbabilities, absurdities, and anachronisms, which characterize the present ply, as well as the other plays of our dramatist. In many respects, the play is wholly incredible, and Shakespeare seems himself to have been conscious of the fact when he called it THE WINTER’S TALE, a title that would almost seem to place it in the same category as A Midsummer Night’s Dream in its relation to the actual world.
The earlier part is no less a “slice of life” than the later; and that in life , comedy and tragedy follow hard on each other’s heals, is at the base of all Shakespeare’s work, from Much Ado About Nothing onwards. Yet, although the realism of the rest of the play makes it hard for us to adjust ourselves to the plane of reality...

Warm Your Cockles!
Review of Youngs Winter Warmer by
tange
Advantages: Rich warming beer that is great for a cold night.
Disadvantages: Not as mouth tinglingly good as some winter beers.
...It’s still pretty cold at the moment so I’m still in winter beer mode. We trooped over to The Queen’s Arms at Taddington (not far from Buxton) the other night to have a word with the landlord. It only seemed polite to have a few drinks while we were there. We didn’t really want to try the Spitfire because we’d had that quite recently, so we decided that, as it was freezing cold outside, we ought to try Youngs Winter Warmer.
~~~THE BREWERY.
Youngs is based in Wandsworth in London at the Ram Brewery. They have been producing beer since at least 1581 and, as such, mean it is the oldest site where continuous brewing has occurred. It’s funny to think that Queen Elizabeth I was on the throne when the first beer was made! In those days it was just known as the Ram Brewery and it didn’t actually become “Youngs” until much later (the...
Nylon Cocoons
Review of Poetry by
Pablothehat
Advantages: It reminds me of all the things I miss about leading an outdoor life
Disadvantages: It reminds me of all the things I don't miss about leading an outdoor life
...This is a poetic snapshot of when I use to work in child care. and we, (the RSW/Instructors), would take groups of teenagers in to wilds of Scotland and Wales doing abseiling, caving, canoeing, climbing, you know, the Outdoor Activities thing.
Well we would go in all weathers and throughout the winter camping.
Sometimes you just couldn't remain or even get to sleep. Either the kids kept you awake, or you were so wound up by the stress of the job, or it was freezing cold and blowing a gale!
Anyway, this poem is some of the memories, images and impressions I had and still have of those winter nights, in a tent or bivvie bag, somewhere where few people have trod in 10,000 years.
Nylon Cocoons
They are sleeping soundly, to the rhythmic, drumming rain on nylon
Easing their passage between those two horns
His charges are snug and warm...
Nature Poem
Review of Poetry by
emi10
Advantages: see poem
Disadvantages: see poem
...The birds fly in the sky,
The fish swim in the sea,
The flowers grow so bright,
All day and all night.
The world keeps changing,
The world keeps growing,
The leaves start falling,
In the autumn breeze.
The birds swoop down to catch their prey,
While the horses eat their hay,
The world starts getting cold,
The world starts getting freezing,
The air turns into snow,
As you should know,
In the winter breeze.
The grass starts to grow green,
The yellow flowers surround the juicy apple trees,
In the summer breeze.
The lambs start to bleat,
The daises are scattered at our feet,
Children play at the park,
Until it gets dark,
Look at all the buttercups,
Near the little blue streams,
Sun on the rivers,
Sun on the hills,
Round and round goes the mills,
In the spring breeze.
Winter walks down the frosty pathway,
Everything turns to ice as he...
Warming Winters
Review of Youngs Winter Warmer by
nutkins
Advantages: Taste and Strength
Disadvantages: You have to part with cash to drink it!
...This wonderful beer available from Youngs Brewery in Wandsworth, London is a seasonal ale served during the winter months hence it's appropriate name. The long wait until winter for it's return only serves to whet the appetite to the point where you'll be searching the pumps on the bar for that familiar crest and the first taste of that year. When the nights draw in and the cold starts to bite this ale is the perfect companion, seated next to a roaring fire in your pub of choice.
The beer itself is a joy to drink very dark and full-bodied and in taste, close to a porter but much more quaffable, best enjoyed in an old-fashioned 'jug' rather than the straight 'lager' glasses that most establishments use these days. A jug is really best for all ales and imparts a little history with your beverage, as the 'windows' on the jug replace...
